What you can do with NetApp Connect NetApp Connect uses a combination of a mobile app, a connection to a NetApp Connect server, and documents and files stored on the server. Using the NetApp Connect server, you can configure and manage the system and its users. Using the NetApp Connect app on your mobile device, you can do the following: • Access your files securely and reliably without using cloud storage and without a VPN. • Display your Microsoft Office files, SharePoint files, or file shares on your mobile device. • Securely browse the Internet and your intranet with whitelist and blacklist controls. • Place your files in folders on the mobile device, for more efficient organization. • Annotate your files with your custom notes. • Zoom in and still retain high-quality resolution. • Securely save files locally for offline viewing (access governed by server policies). • Send files to and receive files from other mobile apps (access governed by server policies). Using the NetApp Connect server, you can do the following: • Configure the server and enterprise repositories for mobile access. • View license information. • Configure identities and authentication. • Create and manage repositories and provision user access to those repositories. • Select supported and unsupported file formats. • Enable administrative policies that govern access to browsers, file annotations, offline access, log files, and third-party editors.

File types that you can share on your mobile device Using NetApp Connect, you can view various types of files on your mobile device. • Microsoft Word documents (DOC, DOCX) • Microsoft Excel spreadsheets (XLS, XLSX without pivoted tables) • Microsoft PowerPoint presentations (PPT, PPTX) • Adobe PDFs • Text files (TXT) • Image files (JPEG, JPEG2000, nonanimated GIF, TIFF, 24-bit or 32-bit BMP, PNG, CR2, NEF) • Video (MP4, M4V) Introduction to NetApp Connect | 7

How NetApp Connect works NetApp Connect uses a combination of a mobile app, a connection to a NetApp Connect server, and documents stored on the server. You can use the server to configure and manage the system and its users. The following image shows the high-level NetApp Connect architecture:

The NetApp Connect mobile app enables users to view their enterprise files on their mobile devices easily and securely. The app receives a compressed and encrypted format of users' files and renders them clearly on the mobile device. When a user starts the app, the app connects to a messaging broker and begins communicating with the NetApp Connect server. The server analyzes information such as file formats, policies governing user's file access, and rules governing the processing of different types of files. The server then serves file information back to the mobile app, generates thumbnails for files on the mobile app, and renders the images or pages of the file. 8 | NetApp Connect Mobile Device Guide

Steps 1. Display the list of files or icons representing files. 2. Display the details view by pressing and holding the file icon or name.

3. From the details view, tap the Action arrow icon. Working with files on your NetApp Connect mobile app | 33

4. From the menu, tap Edit In. If you have not downloaded the file locally yet, a prompt appears, telling you to download the file. 5. To continue, or to download the file if you have not done so already, tap Start. If you are downloading the app, a progress bar indicates completion. 6. In the Open In view, tap the app in which you want to open the file. 7. In the app that opens, edit the file.

Receiving inbound files from other apps You can receive files from apps not made by NetApp using the NetApp Connect mobile app. You might want to edit a file in another app and then view it in NetApp Connect. You can also view PDF attachments to your email directly in NetApp Connect.

About this task The iOS assigns a default graphic file name of asset.jpg, which you cannot change unless it duplicates an existing file name. In this case, you are prompted to give the file a new name.

Steps

1. From a file in the other app, tap the Action icon to share the file with another app. 2. From the app chooser view, tap Open in Connect. A confirmation message indicates that the file save was successful and tells you that the file is in the Inbound Files section of the Places tray. 3. Clear the message and tap Close. 4. In the NetApp Connect mobile app, locate the folder in which you want to place the incoming file. For example, you might want to place your incoming files in your Home directory. In this case, you would tap the Home icon:

5. When you reach the desired “drop location,” tap Inbound Files in the Places tray. 6. In the view, choose the selected file and tap Store. Tip: From the Inbound Files option, you could also tap Pick a Photo, to select an image from your photo library or camera roll and store it in NetApp Connect.

7. Dismiss the confirmation message and observe the progress indicators. Your inbound file appears in the selected folder.

Displaying files on a TV or projector You can connect your mobile device to a TV or projector and display your files on the monitor. You can connect your mobile device to AppleTV or another monitor by using Apple AirPlay or by using cables.

Steps

1. Connect your mobile device to a TV or projector using AirPlay or cables. Refer to your mobile device documentation for details about connecting. 2. In the NetApp Connect mobile app on your mobile device, tap Places. 3. In the Places tray, tap the server and then tap the file. The file displays on the right side of your mobile device screen.

4. Tap the Monitor icon. Working with files on your NetApp Connect mobile app | 35
