Parish Plan for NORTHCHAPEL Published December 2009 The Old Forge Centre village across green Working Men’s Club, Pipers Lane Centre village looking south 2 Introduction from the Chairman of Northchapel Parish Council I am delighted to introduce the Northchapel Parish Plan. This document has been worked on over a number of years, and is the result of consultation within the community of Northchapel, with Chichester District Council and West Sussex County Council. We have also benefited great- ly from the input of Action in rural Sussex and the Sussex Association of Local Councils. The Parish Plan is an overview of the way we, as a community, wish Northchapel to develop in the years ahead, the problems and challenges we face, and how we propose to deal with them in partnership with the appropriate outside authorities. We are happily supplied with an excellent local school, with a newly refurbished Village Hall, and a Village Shop and Post Office, however there is much to be addressed if we are to achieve our aim of making Northchapel a place that not only we, but also our children, will be happy to call home. • We must ensure there is an adequate supply of appropriate and affordable housing to meet the needs of future generations (High Priority and Ongoing). • We need to work to establish transport services which link the village to local townships on a regular basis (Medium Priority). • We must work to provide leisure facilities for the younger members of our community (Ongoing). • We must continue to campaign for proper control of the speed of traffic through our village (High Priority and Ongoing). -

WELCOME TO NORTHCHAPEL and we hope you will find the following information helpful as you settle in. Parish News – this monthly publication (with December/January and July/August being combined editions) covers both Northchapel and Ebernoe and is invaluable for finding out what is going on in the village hall/school/church etc., bus timetables and services that are offered by our advertisers. There are village noticeboards outside the shop and on the village green. Other information can be found on the village website www.northchapel.org. Copies of the Parish News can be purchased from the shop (50p per copy) or delivered to you for an annual subscription of £5, please ask Jane Walter (707458) to add you to a distributor’s round. Village Shop/Post Office – open from 7am to 7pm and on Sunday from 7.30am to 12pm. Post Office hours are advertised in the shop. Daily newspapers (can be delivered) and a really good range of fresh food including dairy produce, bread, coffee, frozen/store cupboard items and alcohol. The shop owner and staff are always a good source of knowledge and can usually point you in the right direction if you need help. The Parish Churches of St Michael’s Northchapel, Holy Trinity Ebernoe and St Laurence, Lurgashall are looked after by one rector, the Reverend Peter Hayes who lives in the Rectory, Northchapel. Church services are listed on the church noticeboard and in the Parish News for all three parishes. Contact tel. nos. for the churchwardens are in the Parish News and on church noticeboard. -

Address Land of The Old Grange Centre, Bepton Road, Midhurst, West Sussex, GU29 9HD Recommendation: That the application be approved for the reasons set out below and subject to the conditions set out in paragraph 10 of this report. Executive Summary Reasons for Committee referral: The applicant is Chichester District Council. The application is for the retention of the existing timber hoarding surrounding land on which the former Grange Leisure Centre was sited. It is considered that in the context of the temporary nature and screening effect of the structure, the continued presence of the site hoarding would not result in any permanent harm to the character or appearance of the conservation area and therefore subject to conditions limiting the length of time it may continue to remain in situ and to ensure maintenance of its appearance, the application is recommended for approval. 1 Site Description 1.1 The application site comprises land on which the former Grange Leisure Centre was sited. Following a grant of permission in 2011, the previous Grange Centre was demolished and a new centre relocated and built to the east of the site. A new car park of 300 spaces was also provided with the new centre. The site enclosed by the hoarding is now vacant and is awaiting disposal by the District Council. -

Name: William Henry Crisp Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1867 Registration district: Hartley Wintney Inferred County: Hampshire Volume: 2c His parents were Henry Crisp a labourer and Eleanor Crisp.1 William had four older and two younger sisters and four younger brothers. During his childhood, the family moved around quite a bit, his father doing various jobs as an agricultural labourer, a brickyard labourer and a carter. In 1889, William married his first wife Elizabeth, and they had six children, two boys and four girls, and they lived in the Aldershot area, Elizabeth died in childbirth in September 1907. The 1901 census shows William living at Tongham near Guildford and working as a labourer at the gasworks. By the 1911 census, he had moved to East Grinstead with four of his children and was working as a labourer. In August 1912, at Oving near Chichester, he married his second wife Martha Jenetta White who was twenty five years younger than he, although she believed the difference in age was only twenty years. On the marriage certificate, he was shown to be living in Oving.
