The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier Minister of National Revenue The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay Minister of Veterans Affairs House of Commons Ottawa, Ontario Canada K1A 0A6 Re: Disability extension I am writing to you today on behalf of many constituents. We have had several individuals who are trying to get the necessary forms completed before September 21st so that they may complete the necessary steps to qualify for the one-time top-up for individuals living with a disability. Many individuals in our province rely on supports like the library computers that are usually there for them to receive this information. Due to the shutdown, these resources were unavailable until only recently. Many individuals are encountering obstacles when it comes to filing the necessary paperwork as it is reliant on healthcare professionals. Our province is currently faced with doctor shortages and this further extenuates the barriers that people face. We have heard from countless individuals about the difficulties that they have when it comes to information that is available on the Disability Tax Credit/Pension/Top-up. New Brunswick has very low literacy rates and as a result, much of the information that is available is difficult for many to comprehend. The information should be presented in a way that is equitable to all. If an extension or a second acceptance date could be provided, the top-up that would benefit many marginalized people who are living in my riding and across the country. Sincerely, CONFEDERATION BUILDING, SUITE 318 229 WELLINGTON AVE OTTAWA,ON K1A0A6 [email protected] .
