Phylogeny of the Polysphincta Group of Genera (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae; Pimplinae): a Taxonomic Revision of Spider Ectoparasitoids

A cladistic analysis of the Polysphincta genus-group (¼ the ‘Polysphinctini’ of authors), a clade of koinobiont ectoparasitoids of spiders, was undertaken using ninety-six characters for seventy-seven taxa (sixty-five ingroup and twelve outgroup). The genus-group is monophyletic, nested within the Ephialtini as (Iseropus (Gregopimpla (Tromatobia ((Zaglyptus þ Clistopyga) þ (Polysphincta genus- group))))). Within the Polysphincta genus-group, the clade (Piogaster þ Inbioia)is sister-lineage to all other genera. The cosmopolitan genus Zabrachypus is nonmono- phyletic, and has been subdivided into a monophyletic Nearctic/Western Palaearctic Zabrachypus s.str. and an Eastern Palaearctic Brachyzapus gen.n., comprising B. nik- koensis (Uchida) comb.n., B. tenuiabdominalis (Uchida) comb.n. and B. unicarinatus (Uchida & Momoi) comb.n. An Afrotropical species placed in Zabrachypus, Z. curvi- cauda (Seyrig), belongs to Schizopyga comb.n. The monophyly of the cosmopolitan genus Dreisbachia is equivocal, and we consider that species assigned to it are best placed in an expanded Schizopyga (syn.n.). The monobasic Afrotropical genus Afrosphincta is also a synonym of Schizopyga (syn.n.). The newly delimited Schizopyga is the sister- lineage of Brachyzapus, and these two genera form the sister-lineage of Zabrachypus s.str. as the monophyletic clade (Zabrachypus þ (Schizopyga þ Brachyzapus)). -

The knowledge of dispersal evolution, motivation, its effect on metapopulation dynamics and species distribution at multiple scales is poorly understood and many questions remain unsolved or require empirical verification. In this thesis we contribute to the knowledge of dispersal, by studying both ecological and evolutionary aspects of spider dispersal in fragmented grey dunes. Studies were performed at the individual, population and assemblage level and indicate that behavioural traits narrowly linked to dispersal, con- siderably show [adaptive] variation in function of habitat quality and geometry. Dispersal also determines spider distribution patterns and metapopulation dynamics. November, 2004 by Wojciech STARĘGA Instytut Biologii, Katedra Zoologii, Akademia Podlaska, Siedlce [email protected] The present list is a compilation and continuation of the earlier check-lists of Polish spiders (PRÓSZYŃSKI & STARĘGA 1971, 1997, 2003, STARĘGA 1983, PROSZYNSKI & STAREGA 2002]. It will be currently updated, according to the progress of cognition of the country's spider fauna. I give also a list of the most important faunistic and other publications after 1971 which add any species new to the Polish fauna (or cross out some of them). The nomenclatural changes were regarded as far as possible to unify the names used in Polish arachnological literature with those in foreign check-lists and catalogues (e.g. PLATEN & al. 1995, commented by BLICK 1998), NENTWIG et. at. 2003, TANASEVITCH 2004, and first of all, with the latest version (5.0) of the "Spider Catalog" by PLATNICK (2004). The species, which occurrence in Poland is certain, have serial numbers, some exceptions which need confirmation or re-examination are marked with "X" sign instead of a number; doubtful species were not listed, though named in earlier papers (pre-1971). Species described from Poland (or with Polish localities mentioned in their original descriptions) are marked with „☼” sign. Species not "officially" known (i.e. published) from Poland but whose occurrence is already confirmed have remark „(fide ... [the name of its finder])". Some nomenclatorical remarks are given in square brackets. American Museum of Natural History, online at http://research.amnh.org/entomology/spiders/catalog/index.html Last udated: 10.12.2009 INTRODUCTION Fossil spiders have not been fully cataloged since Bonnet’s Bibliographia Araneorum and are not included in the current Catalog. Since Bonnet’s time there has been considerable progress in our understanding of the spider fossil record and numerous new taxa have been described. As part of a larger project to catalog the diversity of fossil arachnids and their relatives, our aim here is to offer a summary list of the known fossil spiders in their current systematic position; as a first step towards the eventual goal of combining fossil and Recent data within a single arachnological resource. To integrate our data as smoothly as possible with standards used for living spiders, our list follows the names and sequence of families adopted in the Catalog. For this reason some of the family groupings proposed in Wunderlich’s (2004, 2008) monographs of amber and copal spiders are not reflected here, and we encourage the reader to consult these studies for details and alternative opinions. Extinct families have been inserted in the position which we hope best reflects their probable affinities. Genus and species names were compiled from established lists and cross-referenced against the primary literature. -

They summarize current knowledge with an emphasis on near-natural restoration, in light of theoretical aspects of restoration ecology as the young scientific field. The proceedings are largely based on contributions presented at a workshop organized by the Calla NGO and the Working Group for Restoration Ecology, Fac- ulty of Science, University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice. About 30 special- ists, both scientists and practitioners, attended the workshop. This English version emerged from the Czech one published in 2010, adapting the texts to an interna- tional readership, reducing local and too specific information. The proceedings are published under the bilateral German-Czech project DBU AZ26858-33/2 (Utilisa- tion of near-natural re-vegetation methods in restoration of surface-mined land – principles and practices of ecological restoration) thus a brief chapter reflecting German experiences is newly included. A number of unusual features 36 distinguish this genome from other chelicerate and arthropod mitochondrial genomes. Most of 37 the transfer RNA gene sequences are greatly reduced in size and cannot be folded into typical 38 cloverleaf-shaped secondary structures. At least nine of the tRNA sequences lack the potential to 39 form TYC arm stem pairings, and instead are inferred to have TV-replacement loops. 40 Furthermore, sequences that could encode the 3' aminoacyl acceptor stems in at least 10 tRNAs 41 appear to be lacking, because fully paired acceptor stems are not possible and because the 42 downstream sequences instead encode adjacent genes. Hence, these appear to be among the 43 smallest known tRNA genes. -
