! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !Museum of Brands Trustee Recruitment September 2019 At the Trustees’ request, the Museum of Brands invites applications to join the Board of Trustees from !individuals interested in brands, their social history and future societal impact. The Museum of Brands explores how brands shape and are shaped by culture, society and people. With gallery spaces open to the public, a learning space for schools and universities, and a unique venue !available to hire. The charity’s aim is to educate the public about consumer culture, brands and business. We are looking to recruit additional Trustees who have strong personal commitments to the charity’s aims and objectives. They will support with income generation, profile raising and future development and growth. The new trustees should have strategic ability, business acumen, industry awareness and !knowledge of London’s cultural landscape. With a new Chairman and strategies being developed, it is an exciting time to join the Board to shape !the Museum of Brand’s future. !Time Commitment: 2-4 hours per month. Allowing for participation in two meetings per year. !The Board wishes to appoint additional Trustees with these areas of expertise: • Audience development and engagement; marketing and communications • Curatorial, interpretation and collections • Commercial, business growth and venue hire • Sponsorship, trusts and foundations • Legal! This document provides information on the Museum of Brands activities and achievements, details on !the current composition of the Board, and instructions on how to apply. ! !About the Museum of Brands We explore how brands shape – and are shaped by – people, culture and society. More than 50,000 people visit the Museum every year, which is located on 111-117 Lancaster Road, 2 minutes from Portobello Road. Our displays show 150 years of brands, packaging and advertising in the Time Tunnel, !a permanent exhibition created by consumer historian Robert Opie. The Museum showcases temporary exhibitions, talks and workshops, to create debate, ideas and examine the role of brands in history and the modern world. The Museum has a subtropical garden, café and Museum gift shop for visitors to enjoy. We host more than 200 events and conferences per year for brands such as Unilever, Facebook, Tesco and more. Our learning programme for schools and !universities attracts more than 20,000 students a year. As a charity, we generate income through admission and venue hire. We also receive sponsorship and !grant funding. !OUR TRUSTEES Led by our Chair, Toby Hoare, we have a strong and committed Board of Trustees. Our five current trustees bring experience in finance, collection management, social history and brand !engagement. Our Board meets two times a year at the Museum in Notting Hill. Meetings are held in late mornings usually from 10.30am until 12.30pm followed by lunch. The main board is supported by board members and advisory groups. The CEO, Executive Director and Finance Director attend all Board !meetings, and all team members are invited to lunch after the meetings. Trustee positions are voluntary. Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, after which, if !they wish, they can be reelected for up to two further three-year terms. ! !OUR TEAM We have a team of 16 team members covering leadership, governance, finance, development, venue hire, learning, front of house & retail, marketing and project management. The Museum operates with the support of 80 volunteers throughout the year. The team is supported by an advisory board that !supports on a range of topics. The Museum’s CEO is Chris Griffin, Executive Director is Karin Kihlberg and the Museum Founder is !Robert Opie. ! !INTERESTED?
