With what could be one of the worst periods of weather we have experienced before the start of a season, I hope that this is sign that we’ve had all the rain, wind and snow! The Proclaimers claimed there was Sunshine on Leith, I’m praying for Sunshine for the SPCU! Volunteering In a time where cricket across the country is in decline, the onus on the same volunteer’s year on year increases. Whether it be, the captains who make sure that the team sheets are completed before the match; the scorers who complete the match return; the groundsman who prepares the best track possible or the coaches who give up their time to introduce and coach boys and girls who will become the future of our sport, from the SPCU committee – thank you! I would encourage anyone who can offer their time – please support your local club to make a difference. My final thank-you is to the volunteers who serve on various committees within the SPCU who put many hours of their own time to benefit the game. New Laws of the Game I’d like to publicly thank ESCOA for their insightful presentations on the new laws that were introduced from 1st October 2017. The SPCU have fully adopted the new Laws of the Game in all matches where ESCOA appoint umpires. I’m pleased that following our EGM vote that for matches whereby there is no ESCOA umpires are appointed, all the new penalty run provisions have been reversed. While there is no framework for clubs to deal with misconduct under Law 42, I would strongly encourage any instances of alleged misconduct to be reported to the Committee through the Competition Committee. I would strongly recommend that all those involved in the games take the time to read the new laws and regulations ahead of the start of the season. Sustainability of the Union I regret to inform the membership that following from the AGM, Callum Laing – our Commercial Sub-Committee Chair - indicated his intentions to resign due to other commitments. The SPCU continues to be a voluntary organisation and our committee require someone to push our Union forward on our communication and commerciality. Should anyone have the time and skills to assist us, please do contact me or any of the management committee, we would be delighted to hear from you. Strengthening our ties with Cricket Scotland The SPCU is delighted to have 2 of our management committee members continue to serve on the Board of Cricket Scotland. Both Bob and Gordon continue to ensure that our clubs interests and grass roots cricket are considered at the very top level. This strong link along with frequent presentations including at our most recent AGM shows both the SPCU’s and Cricket Scotland’s ambition to work together to benefit our great sport across Scotland. Representing the SPCU Following a very successful run of representative matches against our neighbours in NOSCA and ACA, we will be looking to continue our winning streak this season. We will lock horns with NOSCA on 5th August and ACA on 8th July. I look forward to inviting personally the players selected to represent our Union in these fixtures and I am sure that the young talent we have coming through the SPCU will be well represented in the team selected. I hope our paths cross during the season and should anyone have any ideas and is willing to assist the development of cricket locally, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or any of the management committee. Yours in cricket Ryan Milne SPCU President Page | 3 Constitution Adopted at Annual General Meeting on 19th November 2017 1. Name 1.1 The Union shall be called “The Strathmore & Perthshire Cricket Union”, an amalgamation in 2003 of the Strathmore Cricket Union, instituted in 1929, and the Perthshire Cricket League, instituted in 1964, (hereinafter referred to as “The Union”) 2. Objectives 2.1 The objectives of the Union shall be: (a) to promote and encourage the game of cricket in the North East of Scotland (hereinafter referred to as “the region”) amongst players and spectators and improve playing standards and playing conditions in the region. (b) to arrange and administer league and cup competitions. (c) to arrange representative matches for or within the region with the approval of and/or in conjunction with Cricket Scotland. (d) to arrange coaching facilities when and where practicable and to organise coaching and education of coaches and officials (umpires, scorers, groundsmen & administrators) within the region for the benefit of cricketers of all ages. (e) to support area cricket development groups within the region in fostering and developing youth cricket. 3. Affiliation to Cricket Scotland 3.1 The Union shall affiliate to Cricket Scotland and by its affiliation recognises the Constitution of Cricket Scotland, agrees to be bound by it and to recognise the right of Cricket Scotland to act as an appeal body for any dispute, always accepting that the said appeal body shall confine its jurisdiction to the procedures and legalities of actions taken by the Union, between members of the Union or between the Union and any of its members, which shall have been referred to it by any provision of this Constitution or by any provision of Cricket Scotland Constitution, and the Union and each of its members agrees to abide by the decision of Cricket Scotland in any such matter. 4. Membership 4.1 Ordinary membership of the Union shall be open to properly constituted cricket clubs and are within the areas of Aberdeenshire, Central, Fife and Tayside notwithstanding the boundaries of the region as defined in Cricket Scotland Constitution. Any club desirous of entering the Union must make application in writing to the Secretary before 1st October prior to submission by the Management Committee to the Annual General Meeting and will be approved only with consent of two thirds of the members represented and voting. Cricket clubs from out with these areas may be admitted to membership of the Union if, after enquiry by the Management Committee, it appears reasonable to do so.

    Dear Church Member 2nd April 2021 With this letter you will find the Aberdeen West Churches ‘Basis of Parish Grouping’. The Aberdeen Presbytery Plan agreed last summer put in place a RoadMap for the congregations of Cults, Craigiebuckler, Kingswells, Mannofield and Peterculter covering the next 10 years. This moves through the stages of Grouping, Linkage (or Linkages), and finally the end objective of Union (or Unions) within the lifetime of the Plan. The Presbytery, in agreeing this Plan, endorsed the work and conclusions of our own Kirk Sessions that had established a Working Group to consider our shared future. We have reached the point of seeking agreement of the congregations to move into a Parish Grouping from this Summer. As you will note from the Basis of Grouping, the Administration and Ministry of our individual congregations does not in any way change at this stage. This Basis of Grouping allows us to continue our good work of the past year and to discover new ways to share in the responsibility of Outreach to our Parish areas. The Grouping allows us to support each other in our respective work and gives encouragement to seek new ways of growing our relationship and strength. Normally in the Church of Scotland when changes of this type are proposed and decided, after Kirk Sessions have agreed to the change, the members of the congregation are called to attend a congregational meeting at which a vote is taken. In these times this is not permissible and so the Church of Scotland has provided a ‘Protocol’ for allowing such changes to be discussed and agreed legally without the need of an ‘in-person’ meeting.

Mind you, that said, the two sides' pro's were rivals back in South African domestic cricket. Brian Spence's first job was - of course - to lose the toss, or more accurately watch as his Stennie counterpart win it. Batting. Why? Probably the visitors' skipper thinking being that wet weather in the days leading up to the game must've meant there was "something" in the pitch. And of course he was right; what was in it was water. Lots of it. HoVR opened with Captain Spence, and 15 was on the 'board when the latter was cleaned up by Angus [Ed: that's his surname!]. Dan then came and went for 2 and it was 28 for 2 when Bean joined the pro'. 26 runs later and HoVR had his fourth batting partner of the day as Nichty strode out. Determined to show that his deck was perfectly playable the Big Man would go on to top score in the innings, batting with almost as many partners as HovR - his 32 added to Hancke's 31 and Maddy 's 27 late on being the three scores around which a defendable total were built.

    FOCUS The Church Newsletter of Peterculter Parish Church March 2020 MARCH 2020 FOCUS Dear Friends I would like to record my sincere thanks to everyone who worked so hard to make the church look so lovely over Christmas, including the Flower Team and the Property Team. Thanks must also go to our Young Church for the excellent Nativity Play and it was great to see so many children taking part. I would also like to thank all those involved in the redecoration of the church and installation of new lights. In particular, thanks must go to Lorrie Bilsborrow who oversaw the redecoration work. The Presbytery Plan is proposing a union between ourselves, Cults, Craigiebuckler, Mannofield and Kingswells. This is a major proposal and requires a lot of thought. It proposes that all the buildings (apart from Kingswells) are retained, but that one charge is created with a team ministry. It would mean a major change in the way that we operate as a church. The Kirk Session will be discussing this soon and I will keep you posted on developments. Finally, and most importantly, I’m delighted that a Youth Alpha course has started up in the church, led by our student assistant Fiona Lister. This is great news and should be encouraging for all of us. We are very fortunate to have a small group of young people still active in the congregation. We are also fortunate to have Fiona, who is doing such a great job in our congregation. It supplements the information which is contained on the display boards, also available on the website. 01/07/2020 - This Q+A has been updated following submission of the formal application. Any changes are identified by red text. The proposals 1. What are the proposals? Aldi have applied for detailed planning permission for the erection of a new discount foodstore, parking, access, landscaping and associated works. The current Aldi proposal is for a small local scale foodstore with a gross floorspace of 1,868sqm (21,463 sqft) gross / 1,315 sqm (14,154 sqft) net foodstore, with 101 parking bays. 2. What type of planning application has been submitted? A detailed planning application has now been submitted, and can be viewed on the Aberdeen City Council Planning portal at https://publicaccess.aberdeencity.gov.uk/online- applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=QBTM78BZIAI00. Due to the size of the proposals, the scheme is only a ‘local’ scale development in terms of the planning regulations. As a result, there is no statutory need to undertake pre-application consultation. The consultation that was undertaken is therefore a voluntary undertaking by Aldi to ensure that the local community is appropriately informed of the facts concerning their proposals and could make comments to help inform the final scheme, before they are lodged with the Council. Please note – Now that the formal application has been submitted, comments can be made directly to the Council.
