From the Ronald McDonald House Ambassador Why RonaLd McDonald House is Close to my heart

’m very proud to work together with Ronald McDonald House. Belinda, the staff and the volunteers there do Ian amazing job and whenever I’m called upon, I’m happy to contribute whichever way they need me. I’m always delighted to go into the house and see the kids, it’s never easy but if we can change someone’s life – even just by a few percent – and help in some way it’s a very positive thing. Giving back is something that I love to do. Currently the house is running a “Meals From The Heart” program which is a brilliant cause. The program provides a much-needed service to families who are supporting their sick children and whom often don’t have the time, funds or energy to prepare a healthy, home-cooked meal. I know the Wanderers’ staff did this on Monday night and it is something I’ll take Giving Back part in soon. With just seven rounds to go and one of the tightest ladders we've seen in years, the stage is set for a bumper finish to the season.

And even beside the merry-go-round type nature of the top six, the bottom four have shown in recent weeks that potential landmines still exist for the unwary, evidenced by both first and second placed clubs Roar and Wanderers surprisingly dropping four points between them to second and third last teams Newcastle and Wellington in Round 19. A positive for the Wanderers is that they’ve performed well in the so called mini-league of the top six but that won’t make the race for the Premier’s Plate any less of a slog. This is a premiership race distantly unlike the foundation season, when the side went close to overlapping the field, and the following year where the Wanderers finished runners-up. Hosting an in-form Perth tonight starts the potentially decisive run of four games that will see the Wanderers take on three genuine challengers in Roar, Victory, Adelaide and traditionally awkward customers in Newcastle Jets. Despite this, the team are perhaps far better equipped for a competitive title challenge than they have ever been and are showing all the nailed-on qualities of a championship frontrunner. Pedigree A combination of intelligent management and on-field Dario Vidosic consistency leaves the Wanderers with one of the best- and Alberto have positioned squads in the league. Experienced stalwarts proved to be two in Mark Bridge and Nikolai Topor-Stanley are familiar key off-season with finals football whilst Andreu, Dimas and Alberto pick-ups have had their fair share of daunting encounters. Most importantly of all, Popovic has shaped a fiercely efficient team, one whose winning mentality will prove pivotal as the stakes get higher, and the side who have played the most consistent football all season. The challenge of Perth tonight is the platform the Wanderers must use to build momentum into the finals series. Kenny Lowe’s men are no pushovers – in fact, they might even meet the Wanderers in the finals. The Wanderers need to send out a strong message to their title rivals in the coming weeks. Even then, there’s no telling how much will change with seven rounds remaining.

Working together Ronald McDonald House and the Wanderers have paired up to help support the families of seriously ill children

n behalf of all the families, volunteers, board and staff at Ronald McDonald House Westmead we are very excited Oto be a charity partner for the Western Sydney Wanderers. Wanderers’ ongoing support is invaluable to all of our kids and their families that stay with us from all over NSW, interstate and overseas. Ronald McDonald House Westmead is a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families while they are being treated at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. We are honoured to have Brendon Santalab as our amazing Ambassador who goes above and beyond in supporting our house and what we do for the families. Every time he visits our house the children light up to see one of their football heroes spending time with them and making their day a little bit brighter. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate everyone and are constantly turning families away – we have launched our Building Love campaign where we need to raise $31m to build a new 60 room house, three times the size of our current one – but we need everyone’s help. Visit www.buildinglove.org.au to find out how you can help Ronald McDonald House Westmead and with the ongoing support from the Wanderers we are one step closer.
