It’s never been a place for featherweights. When the subdivision first came on the market in November 1974, people were slow to take up the challenge. Some—though not all—of the first sales were to people who bought blocks as an investment or as weekenders, which they remain to this day. We don’t see those people often. During the 1980s about half of the blocks were sold to more hardy spirits, people brave enough to take on the adventure of actually living here. Some came, some went, but by the late 1980s there were many more who came, saw, and stayed. Over the last forty years, all up, dozens of residents have lived in the Bushlands on Parson’s subdivision or its surrounds. For whatever reason they chose to spend time here—its natural environment, its proximity to friends and community, the privacy, because it’s off grid, or some other reason— they all have different stories to tell. Since the dawn of time, roughly a hundred billion human beings have walked the planet Earth. Now this is an interesting number, for by a curious coincidence there are approximately a hundred billion stars in our local universe, the Milky Way. So for every man who has ever lived, in this Universe there shines a star. But every one of those stars is a sun, often far more brilliant and glorious than the small, nearby star we call the Sun. And many - perhaps most - of those alien suns have planets circling them. So almost certainly there is enough land in the sky to give every member of the human species, back to the first ape-man, his own private, world-sized heaven - or hell. How many of those potential heavens and hells are now inhabited, and by what manner of creatures, we have no way of guessing; the very nearest is a million times farther away than Mars or Venus, those still remote goals of the next generation. But the barriers of distance are crumbling; one day we shall meet our equals, or our masters, among the stars. Men have been slow to face this prospect; some still hope that it may never become reality. Increasing numbers, however, are asking: "Why have such meetings not occurred already, since we ourselves are about to venture into space?" Why not, indeed? Here is one possible answer to that very reasonable question.

The Bible is unquestionably the one Book that has exerted the greatest influence on history of any book ever produced. The Bible, however, is actually a compilation of sixty- six books, and the Book of Genesis is the foundation of them all. If the Book of Genesis were somehow removed, the Bible would appear absurd and incomprehensible. It would be like a building without a foundation, or a bridge with no support. The books of the Old Testament, narrating God’s dealings with His ancient people of Israel, would be bigoted and racist, were they not set in the context of the progressive development of God’s wise and gracious purposes for all mankind as laid down in the early chapters of Genesis.

El festival ha comptat al llarg de la seva trajectòria amb propostes dels més diversos colors i estils. REPERCUSSIÓ D’EDICIONS ANTERIORS Any rere any, el festival San Miguel Primavera Sound ha anat incrementant tant l’assistència de públic com la re- percussió als principals mitjans de premsa, ràdio i televisió. Si la primera edició va tancar amb una assistència de 8.000 persones, la del 2002 va arribar a 18.000 i la de 2003 va reunir entre els seus espais a més de 24.000 persones, l’assistència de 40.000 persones a l’any 2004 va significar un punt i apart i el festival va abandonar el Poble Espanyol.

Een laatste keer genieten van het schrijftalent van de scriptores en hun fantastische redactieteam. De laatste herinneringen ophalen. Mijn laatste rubriekje. Dit presidiumjaar was op zoveel vlakken een ware rollercoaster. Na de verkiezingen van vorig jaar klapten onze veiligheidsbeu- gels dicht en wachtten we vol spanning op de lancering van deze topattractie, we hadden er lang naar uitgekeken. Hoewel we even moesten wachten, schoten de karretjes toch in gang, traag maar zeker naar hun doel. In september en oktober hielden we allemaal onze adem in, klaar voor die eerste grote drop. Introductiedagen, een lastminute cocktailavond, tegen alle verwachtingen in een bachelorweek- end… Het was een grote spannende waas. Daarna kwam jam- mer genoeg de rem die het presidium even wat ademruimte gaf, maar iedereen hunkerde toch naar die volgende looping. De rit verliep plots in het donker, hoewel je als inzittende liever zou we- ten welke richting je zou uitdraaien, blijft de kick toch groter dan wanneer je onverwachte wendingen maakt. Een speeddate, quiz, Upperdare… we gingen niets uit de weg. Als presidium mogen we trots zijn op alle activiteiten die we gerealiseerd hebben, op alle nieuwe schachten die we hebben kunnen bereiken en op alle nieuwe vriendschappen over de webcam heen. De scherpe bochten die deze rollercoaster nam, maakten al snel plaats voor één van mijn hoge schreeuwen van excitement. Ik doe mijn ogen open en we zijn uit het donkere stuk, maar het einde van de rit is al in zicht.
