Boxing's Biggest Stars Collide on the Big Screen in July 30, 2013 Boxing's Biggest Stars Collide On The Big Screen In "THE ONE: Floyd ‘Money' Mayweather vs. Canelo Alvarez" Exciting Co-Main Event Features Danny Garcia and Lucas Matthysse NCM Fathom Events, Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Promotions, SHOWTIME PPV® and O'Reilly Auto Parts Bring Long-Awaited Fights to Movie Theaters Nationwide Live from Las Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 14 CENTENNIAL, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Fans across the country can watch the much-anticipated match-up between the reigning boxing kings of the United States and Mexico when NCM Fathom Events, Mayweather Promotions, Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Promotions, SHOWTIME PPV® and O'Reilly Auto Parts bring boxing's biggest star Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez to the big screen. In what is anticipated to be one of the biggest fights in boxing history, both Mayweather and Canelo will defend their undefeated records in an action-packed, live broadcast from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Mexican Independence Day weekend. "The One: Mayweather vs. Canelo" will be broadcast to select theaters nationwide on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET / 8:00 p.m. CT / 7:00 p.m. MT / 6:00 p.m. PT / 5:00 p.m. AK / 3:00 p.m. HI. In addition to the explosive main event, Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny "Swift" Garcia and WBC Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse will meet in a bout fans have been clamoring to see. Garcia vs. Matthysse will anchor the fight's undercard with additional bouts to be announced shortly. For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change). The event will be broadcast to nearly 550 select movie theaters across the country through NCM's exclusive Digital Broadcast Network. "I love that so many of my fights have been shown in movie theaters. It's something that I wanted to bring to the fans for a long time," said Mayweather. "It's my job to give the fans the best entertainment possible. The fact that they can see my fight against Canelo in theaters is another opportunity for me to continue to be creative and give back to my fans. When I fight, it's a big event and I want people that can't come see me fight to be able to see it on the big screens. Entertaining and pleasing my fans is what my fights are all about." Floyd Mayweather (44-0, 26 KO's), an eight-time world champion in five weight divisions, remains boxing's biggest attraction and the highest paid athlete in the world, wowing crowds and generating huge pay-per-view numbers each time he steps into the ring. During his extraordinary career, he has amassed wins over world champions such as Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto. His last fight against Four-Division World Champion Robert Guerrero on May 4, 2013 not only showed his superior boxing skills, but it also revealed his determination and dedication to stay the best in the sport. At only 23 years of age, the pride of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo Alvarez (42-0-1, 30 KO's) has emerged as a Mexican icon, standing side-by-side with his country's greatest sporting legends. A fighting phenom, Canelo has fought professionally since 2005 when he was only 15 years old. By 2011, he earned his first world championship by defeating Matthew Hatton for the WBC Super Welterweight belt. Canelo has since successfully defended his title six times defeating Ryan Rhodes, Alfonso Gomez, Kermit Cintron, Sugar Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez and, most recently, with a spirited unanimous decision win over Austin Trout, setting up his fight against Mayweather. The fighting pride of Philadelphia, Danny "Swift" Garcia (26-0, 16 KO's) has ascended to the top of the boxing world in recent years with increasingly impressive performances that have shown off his skill, power and heart. Since winning the world title against Erik Morales in 2012, Garcia has defended his crown with wins over Morales (in a rematch), Amir Khan and Zab Judah, cementing his place as one of the best in the world. Trelew, Argentina's Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse (34-2, 32 KO's) built his fearsome reputation with hands of stone that have sent opponent after opponent crashing to defeat. Currently the owner of a six-fight winning streak with six knockouts, Matthysse is coming off of a spectacular third-round knockout of World Champion Lamont Peterson that ignited the boxing world and set up this showdown with Garcia. "THE ONE' is as big as a fight can get and what better way than to see it larger than life in the movie theater?" said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "We are so thrilled to once again team up with NCM Fathom Events to showcase this fight on the big screen." NCM Fathom Events, Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions first teamed up in September of 2009 to bring the highly successful presentation of Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez fight to theaters, followed by four more Mayweather bouts including "May Day: Mayweather vs. Guerrero" earlier this year. "Mayweather's fight with Canelo will mark the sixth fight of his career to be shown in movie theaters," said Shelly Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events. "Since Mayweather first appeared on the big screen in 2009, boxing fans have continued to fill theaters. This bout will be the toughest match-up for Mayweather yet…a mega-watt boxing champion fighting to keep his title against the fastest rising contender in many years." • Terence Crawford: Ready to Announce Himself at Upcoming Debutant Brawl
TERENCE CRAWFORD: READY TO ANNOUNCE HIMSELF AT UPCOMING DEBUTANT BRAWL By: Bill Dwyre* Terence Crawford is in line to become boxing’s next celebrated debutant. All the things are in order for his coming-out party July 23rd in Las Vegas. It could be a ball. He won’t be wearing a long gown. No corsage on his wrist. Just shorts and shoes and the tools of his trade, the boxing gloves with which he hopes to leave impressions on the face of Viktor Postol, and in the minds of a crowd of around 9,000 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. If boxing could produce a list of who is next, Crawford would certainly be high on it. The likes of Gennady Golovkin (Triple G), Canelo Alvarez and Andre Ward have all had their big moments and made their big impressions. No debutants there. They have been to big dances and now are maneuvering for the top of the heap in the sport. Nothing new about them. They have arrived and become gold-plated. Floyd Mayweather Jr., says he’s retired, and, surprisingly, he has remained that way. For now. Manny Pacquiao said he was retired after the April victory over Tim Bradley. Few bought that, even with his impending Senator duties in the Philippines. The skeptics were right, as they usually are in boxing. Pacquiao announced this week that he will fight again, in either late October or mid- November. Suddenly, Terence Crawford’s debutante ball in Las Vegas is high on the list of sports’ big dances.
