CELEBRITY SPOTLIGHT SENZO MEYIWA 24 SEPTEMBER 1987 - 26 OCTOBER 2014 Senzo Robert Meyiwa (24 September 1987 – 26 October 2014) was a South African soccer player who played as a goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates FC and for the South African national team. Senzo made his PSL debut on 8 November 2006 in a 2-1 victory against Amazulu. He then went on to make his debut for South Africa on 2 June 2013 in a 2–0 away victory against Lesotho. HONOURS • 2014: Nedbank Cup Champion • 2013: Africa Champions League runner up (Orlando Pirates) • 2010/11: ABSA Premiership winner, Nedbank Cup winner, MTN8 Cup winner (all with Orlando Pirates) • 2011/12: ABSA Premiership winner, MTN8 winner, Telkom Cup winner (all with Orlando Pirates) • 2008/09: Telkom Charity Cup winner, SAA Supa 8 runner-up, Jet Club PSL Rookie of the Month (January), Telkom Charity Cup runner-up, Vodacom Challenge runner-up (all in 2007/08), PSL runner-up, Vodacom Challenge winner (both in 2005/06) • National level: 16 Under-23 caps, Under-20, Under-17 international • Bafana Bafana international (7 caps) Senzo was no ordinary player. He was the captain of the national team, captain of Orlando Pirates. Senzo joined Pirates when he was just 13-years-old, and we are proud to say that Senzo put us on the map when we qualified for the Champions League final. He was part of the team that won the treble back to back, he was in the last five finals, and we can say that he always tried his best. - Irvin Khoza Senzo was beyond a player. He was a leader, a peacemaker in the camp. The good thing about Senzo when sitting face-to-face with him was his sparkling eyes and smile. He never stopped smiling. One day, I asked him, ‘I don’t know whether you are trying to fool me or what, you always smile.’ His answer: ‘Nginjalo Mqeqeshi, anginasikhathi sokukwata ngoba akungenzeli lutho (I don’t have time to be angry because it doesn’t help me).’ - Shakes Mashaba It is a national tragedy because you know Senzo has contributed so much, not only to Orlando Pirates. You will remember when he went to the Champions League, he was outstanding in his performances. We are just saddened by his departure because his career was just blossoming and he was in the prime of it. - Kaizer Motaung The nation had their hopes on him following brilliant displays in the Bafana Bafana jersey, especially in the recent AFCON matches where he kept a clean sheet in all four games. We will surely miss him. - Danny Jordan Sources: orlandopiratesfc.co.za, soccerladuma.co.za THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WELLNESS FUND TRUCKING WELLNESS HEALTH PLAN WELLNESS FUND HEALTH PLAN TRUCKING WELLNESS The NBCRFLI Wellness Fund Health Plan protects the well-being of employees Trucking Wellness is a value-add health service offered by Council to within the Road Freight and Logistics Industry, and is available to all active members of the Industry as well as those in surrounding communities NBCRFLI members who are contributing to the Wellness Fund and meet the including sex workers.
