Among India, as Bengal is called ‘the land of Maach (fish) & Bhaat (rice)’, fish is very popular diet in West Bengal. Diversities of water bodies existing in the landscape of West Bengal offers wider variety of fishes too. In this booklet, we are going to focus on the relationship between fish and its environment along with observation and survey of locally available fish. Through step-wise lesson plan activities, children will be able to understand that fishes have important roles in each habitats, ponds, rivers, and rice fields etc. To study about fish is to learn about those ecosystems and its conservation. The following topic map is showing some idea how teachers/facilitators can expand lesson plan on fish. Children can choose their own learning process and context. The teachers need to facilitate it only, rather than imposing an uniform style for all. The reason we call this 'creative' is, this kind of lesson plan can not only enhance the children's knowledge but also widen their 'perception'. Perception means How children look around their world ... this is an important goal for children as learners and future citizens. Creative Lesson Plans should have the following aspects Starting from what children already know and what children have experienced / felt. These help to create and enhance children's interest about the topic. Having the overall goal related to 'Social / asking good questions Environmental Issue' and 'Scientific attitude'. is much more important Setting up these goals help to be aware that they than seeking answers can also do something to improve their environment and solve some of the social problems. Children should have fun and enjoy the moments of discovery in their learning process. Activity should link the classroom and community. This is essential for Environmental Education, as we need more and more people's initiatives for better environment. Using active and group based learning methods by encouraging children's involvement in group. Using local materials and examples for 'Link the classroom activities. You can also make the activities low and community' cost and eco-friendly by using waste materials. They are encouraged to understand fish has close connection with environment and often work as an indicator to point degradation of ecosystem. Some initiatives and actions among children to protect water bodies from pollutants such as wastes or agricultural chemicals are most welcome to conserve fishes as natural resources and valuable food. The teachers had tried out each activity with their students (targeted class 4-9) in their class or as extra curricular. You can see the survey results and children’s work examples after each lesson plan. We hope these feedbacks help to create your motivation to conduct each activities and reflect them in your way. We got feedback from different groups affiliating ENRE partner organisations. Some survey results were also shared by other projects of DRCSC. Most trials were carried during 2001- 2004. A study was commissioned to establish the facts behind the fatal incidents and the behavioural factors that increase the risk of an incident occurring. Objectives For some time the DTI has been concerned about the number of drowning incidents that take place within the domestic environment, particularly as initial indications point to the fact that a large number of young children are involved. Drowning is the third largest cause of accidental death in the home in under fives. The DTI has commissioned the Business Strategy Group to carry out a full investigation of child drowning incidents in the garden. The brief was to provide a comprehensive picture of the type of incident, the profile of those affected and the precise behavioural factors that increase the risk of a fatal incident.

Kamal Department of Fisheries Technology, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh-2202, Bangladesh Abstract: The study was conducted to evaluate the influence of formalin on the quality changes in rohu fish (Labeo rohita, Hamilton) during ice storage condition. There are complaints from the consumers that the fish traders in Bangladesh use formalin in fish imported from neighboring countries to increase the shelf life. On the basis of organoleptic characteristics, the formalin treated fishes were found in acceptable condition for 28 to 32 days in ice as compared to the control fish, which showed shelf life of 20 to 23 days. Bacterial load in formalin treated fish was below detection level even after 16 days of ice storage whereas bacterial load was significantly higher in fresh rohu stored in ice and at the end of 24 days of ice storage. NPN content was increased gradually in fresh rohu with the increased storage period in ice. On the other hand, NPN content of formalin treated rohu decreased gradually during the same period of storage. Protein solubility in formalin treated fish decreased significantly to 25% from initial of 58% during 24 days of ice storage as compared to 40% from initial of 86.70% for control fish during the same ice storage period.

Hilsa intermuscular bones have varied shape and size. These pin bones are slender and soft which of two types, Y Pin bones and straight pin bones. Total number of pin bones in hilsa was found to be 138 nos. Y pin bones in each side was found to be 37 and straight bones in each side was 32. Both types of pin bones were slender springy and their distal end were not brushy. Branched pin bones were located on the dorsal broad muscle and unbranched pin bones were found in the posterior tail region. Abstract One unit of FRP carp hatchery with one breeding pool, one hatching pool, one egg/ spawn collection tank BC Mohapatra and one plastic made overhead tank of capacity 2000 litre was installed and operated at Bali Island, ICAR-Central Institute of Sunderban, West Bengal during 2014-15. During July - August, 2015 for the first time the successful Freshwater Aquaculture, induced breeding of Indian major carps (rohu, Labeo rohita and catla, Catla catla) and Indian minor carp Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. (bata, Labeo bata) was conducted in the established hatchery and 18.5 lakhs spawn was harvested. In this experiment spawning fecundity of rohu was found to be 0.88-1.0 lakh, catla 0.95 lakh and bata 1.1-1.3 A Ghosh lakh egg/kg bodyweight of female fish. Time for completion of egg hatching was found more or less ICAR-Central Institute of similar in rohu 920-970 minutes, catla 965 minutes and bata 940-990 minutes. Percentage of spawn Freshwater Aquaculture, Field survival from egg release was calculated to be 85.5-92.5% in rohu, 84.5% in catla and 86.5-90% in bata.

They should be clear and in focus, but don’t need to be higher resolution than about 900 pixels square.
