Parish Office/Oficina Parroquial The Parish Office is located in the Parish Center 7775 Vanderbilt Beach Rd. Naples, FL 34120 239-592-1949 Fax: 239.354.4462 E-Mail: [email protected] Stand Firm in the Lord Parish Office Hours/Horas de Oficina It is not hard to imagine, in this age of wars, evil groups Monday - Friday/Lun - Vie 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. bent on the destruction of humanity, and political follies, that Chapel Hours/Horas de Capilla the words of Saint Paul were so accurate, even for his time. Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. It seems that the world never changes. Paul says, “Many . . . Eucharistic Adoration – Prayer Chapel Open Adoration Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end Mass Times/Horas de Misa is their destruction . . . Their minds are occupied with earthly Saturday/Sab: 3:30 & 5:15 p.m. things” (Philippians 3:18, 19). The result is the destruction of Sunday/Dom innocent people and of the Earth itself. But Paul says to the 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:00 a.m. at Palmetto Ridge High School Philippians, “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also 11 a.m. & 5 p.m., 1 p.m. En Español await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (3:20). He will “change Monday - Saturday/Lun - Sab: 8:30 a.m. our lowly body to conform with his glorified body” (3:21). Note Holy Days/Dias Festivos that he says “body” rather than “bodies.” He is talking about 8:30 a.m., Noon & 7:00 p.m. (Bilingual) the whole community of believers, who, following the example Sacrament of Reconciliation/ of Jesus and of Paul, will come into the glory of God. So “stand Sacramento de la Reconciliación firm in the Lord” (4:1). Life is “a little while,” a short moment of waiting. But life is not empty waiting. It is to wait full of expectation. The knowledge that God will indeed fulfill the promise to renew everything, and will offer us a “new heaven and a new earth,” makes the waiting exciting. We can already see the beginning of the fulfillment. Nature speaks of it every spring; people [speak] of it whenever they smile; the sun, the moon, and the stars speak of it when [they] offer us light and beauty; and all of history speaks of it when amid all devastation and chaos, men and women arise who reveal the hope that lives within them. . . . What is my main task during my “little while”? I want to point to the signs of the Kingdom to come, to speak about the first rays of the day of God, to witness to the many manifestations of the Holy Spirit among us. I do not want to complain about this passing world but to focus on the eternal that lights up in the midst of the temporal. I yearn to create space where it can be seen and celebrated. –Henri Nouwen St. Agnes Parish 7 March 17, 2019

Christ has no body on earth but yours, no hands, no feet but yours… “ –St. Teresa of Avila Saint Patrick’s Story ”

Legends about Patrick abound; but truth is best served by our seeing two solid qualities in him: He was humble, and he was courageous. The determination to accept suffering and success with equal indifference guided the life of God’s instrument for winning most of Ireland for Christ. Details of his life are uncertain. Current research places his dates of birth and death a little later than earlier accounts. Patrick may have been born in Dunbarton, Scotland, Cumberland, England, or in northern Wales. He called himself both a Roman and a Briton. At 16, he and many his father’s slaves and vassals were captured by Irish raiders and sold as slaves in Ireland. Forced to work as a shepherd, he suffered greatly from hunger and cold. After six years Patrick escaped, probably to France, and later returned to Britain at the age of 22. His captivity had meant spiritual conversion. He may have studied at Lerins, off the French coast; he spent years at Auxerre, France, and was consecrated bishop at the age of 43. His great desire was to proclaim the good news to the Irish. In a dream vision it seemed “all the children of Ireland from their mothers’ wombs were stretching out their hands” to him. He understood the vision to be a call to do mission work in pagan Ireland. Despite opposition from those who felt his education had been defective, he was sent to carry out the task. He went to the west and north–where the faith had never been preached–obtained the protection of local kings and made numerous converts. Because of the island’s pagan background, Patrick was emphatic in encouraging widows to remain chaste and young women to consecrate their virginity to Christ. He ordained many priests, divided the country into dioceses, held Church councils, founded several monasteries and continually urged his people to greater holiness in Christ. He suffered much opposition from pagan druids and was criticized in both England and Ireland for the way he conducted his mission. In a relatively short time, the island had experienced deeply the Christian spirit, and was prepared to send out missionaries whose efforts were greatly responsible for Christianizing Europe. Patrick was a man of action, with little inclination toward learning. He had a rock-like belief in his vocation, in the cause he had espoused. One of the few certainly authentic writings is his Confessio, above all an act of homage to God for having called Patrick, unworthy sinner, to the apostolate. There is hope rather than irony in the fact that his burial place is said to be in County Down in Northern Ireland, long the scene of strife and violence. St. Agnes Parish 8 March 17, 2019

We have completed eight weeks of Eucharistic Adoration. God is truly blessing this ministry! As we continue to grow, we hope that Jesus in The Eucharist will unite us and draw us ever more closely to Him. Thank you all for praying before the Holy Eucharist with us.

We are still looking for adorers. Our goal is to make Eucharistic Adoration perpetual 24 hours a day seven days a week. We need to have at least two adorers per hour from different households, preferably three or four adorers per hour. Eucharistic Adoration is now open from 9 a.m. on Mondays to 9 p.m. on Fridays and we have expanded the sign up to Saturdays and Sundays. Feel free to sign up for an hour on Saturdays and Sundays. We especially need adorers Monday-Fridays from 12 midnight to 9 a.m. In addition, we need captains from midnight to 7 a.m. and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesdays and six more captains for Saturdays and Sundays.

In this time of spiritual warfare let us put on the armor of Adoration of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist to protect us from the Enemy. Mary is the perfect example of adoring Jesus in The Eucharist. When we turn to her for guidance, she will always point us to her Son Who gives Himself to us in the Eucharist. Our Lady is the Ark of the Covenant or the First Tabernacle of Jesus for she carried the Son of God within her womb. She is a perfect example of strength and faithfulness because she said ‘yes’ to God, accepting all the joys and suffering that lay ahead. In her humility and charity, she teaches us how to fight against the devil with prayer and resignation to the perfect will of God. Through Mary’s “yes” to God it pleased Him to give her the grace of crushing the head of the serpent.

Please go to www.stagnesnaples.org and click on the link for Perpetual Adoration to register. There is a hyperlink on the St. Agnes website with instructions on how to register on adorationservants.org as well as instructions on how to login after registering. Once you have registered, you will receive an email from Adoration Servants notifying you that you are registered. You will then need to contact Deacon Roberto for your access code by calling 307-4265 or emailing [email protected].
