Number of Positions: 1 Classification: Counsellor/Facilitator Scope: In Scope Status: Term, Full-time : Starting at $21.31 per hour Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week (150 hours per 4 weeks averaging period) Period: As soon as possible until March 31, 2020 (May be extended, may become permanent) Closing Date: Monday, August 26, 2019 at 12:00 P.M.

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Employment Services Manager, the Employment Counsellor assists immigrants in setting and meeting their employment goals through developing and delivering in-house employment programs and services, providing individualized instruction in the labour market, providing and equivalency, job search techniques and interview strategies. Duties may include but are not limited to: working with local Saskatchewan businesses, coordinating a virtual , and building partnerships with external stakeholders.

Candidates under consideration will be required to participate in an assessment process consisting of any/all of the following: interview, abilities test, case study and/or presentation.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities  Basic knowledge of employment counselling theories, techniques, and a demonstrated ability to apply them.  Proven ability to conduct interviews, gather information, make assessments, identify problems, plan, and implement strategies to various situations.  Fluent and literate in English; able to read, write, and interpret program regulations and guidelines.  Proven ability to work with Saskatoon business, industry, and the employer-community and collateral agencies such as other service providers and educational institutions.  Knowledgeable of current labour laws and regulations; occupational standards and licensing and certification requirements and the Privacy Act.  Considerable knowledge of the immigrant job seekers experience and settlement issues.  General knowledge of the practice and process of equivalency assessment and recognition.  Demonstrated ability to work independently and on a flexible work ; balancing multiple priorities.  Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with clients while setting appropriate boundaries and acting as a role model.  Demonstrated effective listening skills.  Strong computer skills; keyboard skills, word processing, and database applications.  Demonstrated ability to promote services and programs to broader community.  Demonstrated ability to work with the external business community to building lasting and positive working relationships.  Good judgment and reasoning when maintaining confidentiality.

Education and Experience  University degree in Commerce, Business Administration, or social sciences, humanities, public relations or adult education, and, one year of work experience providing employment counselling services, OR  Graduate of post-secondary program (2 years minimum) in adult education, job-, or counselling, and two years’ work experience providing employment counselling services.  Training in career counselling is not mandatory but is considered an asset.  Working knowledge of the labour market and keeping informed of community events.

Required Licenses and/or Certificates  Criminal Occurrence Security Check – Must complete a Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check in good standing and within three months prior to first day of employment.  Proof of English proficiency by obtaining a completed Canadian education, minimum CLB level 8, or IELTS 6.5.
