Dewey-Humboldt The Town of Dewey-Humboldt was incorporated effective December 20, 2004 after a successful drive for incorporation that began several years earlier. Voters passed the initiative creating the Town with 72 percent voting in favor. The initiative defined the actual Town limits and the name – Dewey-Humboldt. Dewey and Humboldt represented two distinct communities during the last 100 + years with Dewey providing an agricultural and ranching economy while the Humboldt area had an economy based largely in mining. As the Town of Prescott Valley continued to grow since its founding in the mid 1960’s, the people within the Dewey and Humboldt areas became concerned that Prescott Valley’s growth and annexation strategy might continue along Highway 69, which could ultimately jeopardize the very low density, rural setting of the area. In response, many people became involved in leading the drive for incorporation. During this process, it also became clear to some that incorporation would allow the new town to have more control over how their tax dollars are spent within the town than would otherwise be the case if it remained unincorporated. The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors appointed the Town’s first Council and the first Council election was held on September 13, 2005. The Council is committed to maintaining the rural setting of the area (residential lot sizes are typically greater than 1/2 acre, with most areas 1.6 acres or greater). The 2010 census showed a population of 3,894 residents. The town motto is "Arizona’s Country Town".Source: Town of Dewey-HumboldtArizona State Taxes

The exhibits and the Museum’s collections of artifacts (clothing, tools, vehicles, weapons), photographs, documents, and buildings tell the stories of those who settled Arizona and the West, of the Native Americans who preceded them, and of the area’s rich natural environment. Completed in 1979, the Museum Center is the hub around which Museum activities revolve. In the lobby you’ll find an exhibit about the founder of the Museum, Sharlot M. Hall. The Governors Mansion was built on this site in 1864 from Ponderosa pine logs cut nearby. It housed the first Territorial Governor, John Goodwin, and his staff. Large and well built, it is called a “mansion” in comparison to the tents, wagons, and crude cabins that were homes for the rest of Prescott’s new citizens in 1864. In 1927 Sharlot M. Art at the Center The Prescott Valley Arts and Culture Commission has an annual Art at the Center public art program. In their selection of outstanding sculptures, you will see a variety of media and approaches to form created by a variety of artisans from around the US. The goal of the program is two-fold. First and foremost, enhance and expand the community’s exposure to the arts. Second, market the artist’s work with the understanding that each visiting piece on display is for sale, and that a portion of their sale proceeds will further the operation of the program. Enjoy this fabulous experience of interacting with these varied displays as you wander the grounds of the Civic Center. Take your time; they each have a special story to tell if you are attentive. These sculptures, on loan from the artists, will be on exhibit on the grounds of the Civic Center for one year until a new set arrives each and every spring. The Prescott Valley Civic Center also offers a variety of classes and events, including ballet, martial arts, 50+ aerobics, jazz, dance fitness classes, and zumba. There are also adult sports leagues available for basketball and volleyball. For the complete schedule and info about these events go to www.pvaz.net. Prescott Valley Library In 2008, the Town of Prescott Valley, in partnership with Yavapai College, broke ground on a new 51,500 square foot building adjacent to the Civic Center. This new asset to the community includes the Prescott Valley Public Library, classrooms for Northern Arizona University, and an auditorium for Prescott Valley Town Council Meetings and other events. The Prescott Valley Public Library is part of the Yavapai Library Network. As a member of the network, the patrons of Prescott Valley Public Library have access to over 1,000,000 titles within Yavapai County. Patrons of the Library can request any of the titles and, if available, have them delivered to the Prescott Valley Public Library. If an item is not available in Yavapai County, a patron can request the item from a library elsewhere in the country, with the assistance of Library staff. The Prescott Valley library also offers many classes such as computer classes, story times, knitting, sign language workshops, job hunting help, and a variety of community events. Call (928) 759-3040 or visit www.pvaz.net for additional information. The Public Art Exhibition program allows artists, via a review process, to display their two and three dimensional artwork at the library for 30 to 60 day periods. The Town of Prescott Valley selects exhibits from approved artwork that reflects the history, artistic, cultural and natural beauty of this region. 7401 E.
