08 February 2010 24 January 2019 BROOKLYN ROCKER SHARON VAN ETTEN TO PERFORM NEW ALBUM AT QPAC, HAILED HER BEST YET Brooklyn singer-songwriter and composer Sharon Van Etten is making her way to Brisbane for a one night only performance in the Concert Hall at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on Friday 7 June 2019. QPAC is on Van Etten’s national Remind Me Tomorrow tour, presented by Mistletone, in support of the highly anticipated new album of the same name – released on Friday 18 January on Jagjaguwar via Inertia Music to rapturous acclaim worldwide. The new album is currently Feature Album at Double J, Triple R and 2SER, and has received glowing reviews in STACK Magazine, The Big Issue, The Sydney Morning Herald, as well as Stereogum (Album Of The Week), The Guardian, The Music who said “Remind Me Tomorrow testifies Van Etten’s evolution as a musician as she contemplates life and love and the accompanying kaleidoscope of emotions”, and Pitchfork (Best New Music) who said “[Remind Me Tomorrow] is the peak of Van Etten’s songwriting, her most atmospheric and emotionally piercing album to date”. The new album is a milestone as well as a turning point for Sharon and performed with her five-piece band, promises to be an electrifying experience in a live setting. Written while pregnant with her first child and studying psychology, Remind Me Tomorrow was written in stolen time, wedged between a myriad of endeavours including her first screen appearance in The OA (a supernatural Netflix series produced by Brit Marlin and Zal Batmanglij) and bringing her music onstage in David Lynch’s revival of Twin Peaks. Cont… 2… Off-screen Van Etten was also busy, writing her first score for American film and music Director Katherine Dieckmann’s movie Strange Weather and the closing title song for American comedian Tig Notaro’s show Tig. Produced by John Congleton (Something for Kate, Future Islands), throughout the album Van Etten veers towards the driving, dark glimmer moods that have illuminated the edges of her music and pursues them with full force. Lyrically Remind Me Tomorrow reckons with the life that gets lived when the small and inevitable maintenance is put off in favour of something more present. This is Van Etten’s first album since 2014, following the critically praised Are We There, which she performed during her last visit to Australia in 2015 at Golden Plains Festival in Victoria and at sideshows in Brisbane (The Zoo), Melbourne and Sydney. In 2013 Van Etten opened for Australian rock legends Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds’ USA tour. Citing Nick Cave and Portishead as inspiration for Remind Me Tomorrow, Van Etten’s debut performance at QPAC promises to be something special. Her sultry voice and raw, emotive songs will enthrall audiences. "It’s been so long since I’ve been on the road and I am so excited to say that I will be returning to Australia and New Zealand this year. Always have such an amazing time and can’t wait to share these new songs with you all. See you soon! X,” said Ms Van Etten. Chief Executive John Kotzas said that presenting internationally acclaimed artists such as Sharon Van Etten contributed to QPAC’s reputation as a leading live performance venue. “QPAC’s program offers a diverse array of exciting, memorable and interesting live performances. This one night only concert by Sharon Van Etten is a chance for our audience to be part of an impressive and unique experience,” said Mr Kotzas. “We are excited to welcome Sharon Van Etten to QPAC for the first time.” Don’t miss Sharon Van Etten’s distinctive sound and thrilling new album on Friday 7 June at QPAC. Tickets on sale at 9.00am on Thursday 24 January, 2019. For more information or to book go to qpac.com.au or call on 136 246. -ENDS- "While her early, softly strummed guitar songs were often gorgeous despite their brokenness, Remind Me Tomorrow, an album of hope, intimacy and perseverance, has jagged edges and a brooding swagger” New York TimesCont… Cont… 3… “Her songs often feel like intimate distillations of a complex life” Sydney Morning Herald “Remind Me Tomorrow… is a forceful and playful shove to remind listeners just how special Van Etten’s talent is on both a lyrical and musical level. Don’t call it a comeback, but it may well be her most intoxicating and impressive work to date.” NME Presented by QPAC in association with Mistletone WHEN: Friday 7 June 2019, 8PM WHERE: Concert Hall, QPAC, Queensland Cultural Centre, South Bank, Brisbane TICKETS: qpac.com.au for current pricing BOOKINGS: qpac.com.au or 136 246 Sharon Van Etten Remind Me Tomorrow Australian Tour 2019 Friday 7 June | Concert Hall, QPAC, Brisbane Sunday 9 June | Dark Mofo, Hobart Dark Mofo program and tickets released in April Tuesday 11 June | Hamer Hall, Australian Centre Melbourne Sydney show to be announced soon For more information, images and videos please click here and here. October 3, 2017 For Immediate Release Sharon Van Etten Announces (it was) because i was in love, Deluxe Reissue of Debut Album, because i was in love, Out November 17 Listen to “I Wish I Knew” – https://soundcloud.com/sharonvanetten/sharon-van-etten-i-wish-i-knew/s- egwWr (photo credit - Ryan Pfluger / AUGUST) “It was an innocent and beautiful record, which some of my newer fans may not even know about. This seemed like the perfect time to remix and remaster it, and give it a new life.” – Sharon Van Etten Sharon Van Etten will release (it was) because i was in love, a deluxe reissue of her debut album, because i was in love, on November 17 as a Vinyl Me Please exclusive (pre-order available Nov. 9) and via Sharon’s online shop. It will be available digitally everywhere. Recorded by Greg Weeks who co- produced alongside Van Etten and initially released the album on his Language of Stone label, the reissue has been remixed by Craig Silvey, remastered by Joe Lambert and includes deluxe vinyl packaging with new artwork and liner notes, as well as two bonus tracks. For nearly a decade, Van Etten has been treasured as an artist whose songs flow with a rare and honest vulnerability and courage. Three full-length albums since the release of because i was in love, Van Etten still imbues her songs with the naked emotion that other singer-songwriters might iron out of their recordings. She wants us to hear the humanity of her work, the imperfections that make it palpable, the longing and heartache we’ve all nursed at some point.
