24 January 2019 BROOKLYN ROCKER SHARON VAN ETTEN TO PERFORM NEW ALBUM AT QPAC, HAILED HER BEST YET Brooklyn singer-songwriter and composer Sharon Van Etten is making her way to Brisbane for a one night only performance in the Concert Hall at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on Friday 7 June 2019. QPAC is on Van Etten’s national Remind Me Tomorrow tour, presented by Mistletone, in support of the highly anticipated new album of the same name – released on Friday 18 January on Jagjaguwar via Inertia Music to rapturous acclaim worldwide. The new album is currently Feature Album at Double J, Triple R and 2SER, and has received glowing reviews in STACK Magazine, The Big Issue, The Sydney Morning Herald, as well as Stereogum (Album Of The Week), The Guardian, The Music who said “Remind Me Tomorrow testifies Van Etten’s evolution as a musician as she contemplates life and love and the accompanying kaleidoscope of emotions”, and Pitchfork (Best New Music) who said “[Remind Me Tomorrow] is the peak of Van Etten’s songwriting, her most atmospheric and emotionally piercing album to date”. The new album is a milestone as well as a turning point for Sharon and performed with her five-piece band, promises to be an electrifying experience in a live setting. Written while pregnant with her first child and studying psychology, Remind Me Tomorrow was written in stolen time, wedged between a myriad of endeavours including her first screen appearance in The OA (a supernatural Netflix series produced by Brit Marlin and Zal Batmanglij) and bringing her music onstage in David Lynch’s revival of Twin Peaks. Cont… 2… Off-screen Van Etten was also busy, writing her first score for American film and music Director Katherine Dieckmann’s movie Strange Weather and the closing title song for American comedian Tig Notaro’s show Tig. Produced by John Congleton (Something for Kate, Future Islands), throughout the album Van Etten veers towards the driving, dark glimmer moods that have illuminated the edges of her music and pursues them with full force. Lyrically Remind Me Tomorrow reckons with the life that gets lived when the small and inevitable maintenance is put off in favour of something more present. This is Van Etten’s first album since 2014, following the critically praised Are We There, which she performed during her last visit to Australia in 2015 at Golden Plains Festival in Victoria and at sideshows in Brisbane (The Zoo), Melbourne and Sydney. In 2013 Van Etten opened for Australian rock legends Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds’ USA tour. Citing Nick Cave and Portishead as inspiration for Remind Me Tomorrow, Van Etten’s debut performance at QPAC promises to be something special. Her sultry voice and raw, emotive songs will enthrall audiences. "It’s been so long since I’ve been on the road and I am so excited to say that I will be returning to Australia and New Zealand this year. Always have such an amazing time and can’t wait to share these new songs with you all. See you soon! X,” said Ms Van Etten. Chief Executive John Kotzas said that presenting internationally acclaimed artists such as Sharon Van Etten contributed to QPAC’s reputation as a leading live performance venue. “QPAC’s program offers a diverse array of exciting, memorable and interesting live performances. This one night only concert by Sharon Van Etten is a chance for our audience to be part of an impressive and unique experience,” said Mr Kotzas. “We are excited to welcome Sharon Van Etten to QPAC for the first time.” Don’t miss Sharon Van Etten’s distinctive sound and thrilling new album on Friday 7 June at QPAC.
