Ahead of tomorrow’s epic Ten release, read Adrianne Lenker’s wonderful liner notes, included below. Listen to “Love More” (By Fiona Apple) epic Ten: the accompanying documentary and concert will stream starting tomorrow through April 17th (stream times are below). Van Etten and her band will perform epic in its entirety from Zebulon LA, the venue that played a crucial role in her early career, with profits benefiting Zebulon. A short documentary on the making of epic and the significance of Zebulon as a haven for Van Etten and many other musicians will be presented before the concert. “It is rare to feel truly seen by a stranger. I met Sharon several years ago, before my band had any recognition, before my music was anything to anyone. I was twenty two and had recently moved to New York City. I reached out to Sharon, expecting nothing. We had never met and it was a cold email. I was —nervously and shyly —searching for any insight into the music industry's mysterious maze— hoping to ask her how it had been releasing music with her previous record label. She responded swily and warmly, unhesitatingly inviting me to have coffee with her. I arrived at her Brooklyn apartment, and she greeted me with a warm hug, a french press full of strong coffee, and a spread of delicious food. She spoke to me as a sister, and as a friend. She encouraged me to trust my own instincts and intuition, and opened her door to me as a place I could always turn to if needed. She asked for nothing in return. I remember leaving her apartment and making it half a block away before I spilled onto a stoop to catch my breath and cry. The grace of Sharon Van Etten is helping to heal the earth, heart by heart. I’ve oen thought of how, it is not what one does in the public eye that matters most, but how one treats others when no one is watching, when there is no tangible, seeable reward to be gained. When a person functions from the depths of their soul and gives from that place without condition. The music that arises from such a heart is treasure. Just a few years before our meeting, I had been sitting in the bright orange kitchen of my old college house. I had been listening to epic, letting it spill into me, and through me, saturating the circumstances of my teenage heart. Sharon’s words, melodies and rawness, became my words, melodies and rawness, and permeated the sea of moments I was living in, making them more bearable. It altered my faculties for processing feeling. Her way of writing changed my way of thinking. But I had yet to discover the deeper gi, the gi of Sharon as being. It would seem that when a song is set free into the world, it becomes everyone’s, and anyone’s. ‘Love More’ and ‘Peace Signs’ are anthems for anyone who needs. Like medicine in a cabinet for whenever experience may be enriched by them. But Sharon, as an autonomous creature and vessel and spirit changed my life by simply showing me kindness, and giving me time unquestioningly, without even knowing just how badly I needed it. It is humans like this who breathe life into lifeless spaces, and help to make the world a better place. I am unendingly grateful for this human, and for the eternalized encapsulation of this body of music.” -- Adrianne Lenker epic Ten Tracklist 1. "A Crime" - Big Red Machine 2. "Peace Signs" - IDLES 3. • Sharon Van Etten Announces (It Was) Because I Was in Love, Deluxe Reissue of Debut Album, Because I Was in Love, out November 17
October 3, 2017 For Immediate Release Sharon Van Etten Announces (it was) because i was in love, Deluxe Reissue of Debut Album, because i was in love, Out November 17 Listen to “I Wish I Knew” – https://soundcloud.com/sharonvanetten/sharon-van-etten-i-wish-i-knew/s- egwWr (photo credit - Ryan Pfluger / AUGUST) “It was an innocent and beautiful record, which some of my newer fans may not even know about. This seemed like the perfect time to remix and remaster it, and give it a new life.” – Sharon Van Etten Sharon Van Etten will release (it was) because i was in love, a deluxe reissue of her debut album, because i was in love, on November 17 as a Vinyl Me Please exclusive (pre-order available Nov. 9) and via Sharon’s online shop. It will be available digitally everywhere. Recorded by Greg Weeks who co- produced alongside Van Etten and initially released the album on his Language of Stone label, the reissue has been remixed by Craig Silvey, remastered by Joe Lambert and includes deluxe vinyl packaging with new artwork and liner notes, as well as two bonus tracks. For nearly a decade, Van Etten has been treasured as an artist whose songs flow with a rare and honest vulnerability and courage. Three full-length albums since the release of because i was in love, Van Etten still imbues her songs with the naked emotion that other singer-songwriters might iron out of their recordings. She wants us to hear the humanity of her work, the imperfections that make it palpable, the longing and heartache we’ve all nursed at some point.

THE STEEPWATER BAND : SHAKE YOUR FAITH Diamond Day Records is very excited to announce the release of The Steepwater Band’s 6th full-length studio album SHAKE YOUR FAITH. The LP features 11 brand new TSB tracks, and is slated for release on Friday, April 1st via Double 180 Gram Vinyl, Compact Disc and Digital Download. The album was recorded last winter at Crushtone Studios, in the shadows of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, in Cleveland, Ohio. Shake Your Faith was produced by the band along with seasoned rock studio veteran Jim Wirt, who has also worked with the likes of Fiona Apple, Incubus and the Buffalo Killers. As with most TSB albums, the sound and songwriting on Shake Your Faith has grown and expanded, yet retained the true nature of the band. It’s the first TSB studio record in over 4 years and the first to include “new” guitarist Eric Saylors. "SHAKE YOUR FAITH is a stomping, seductive cry that real rock 'n' roll is alive and well in a band with the swagger, justified confidence, and badass tunes of a modern classic, a collection with all the heart and hips of 70s Stones and serious competition to contemporaries like The Black Keys, Ben Harper, and Jack White." - Dennis Cook {Dirty Impound} • Their song “Dance Me a Number” from Revelation Sunday receives nearly 10,000 spins on Pandora daily, on such channels as The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, White Stripes, Led Zeppelin, and more. • Their 2010 single The Stars Look Good Tonight reached # 109 on the Triple A radio charts and it was featured during the June 29, 2010, WGN-TV (nationally syndicated) broadcast of the Chicago Cubs Major League Baseball game.

  • On Fiona Apple's Tidal
Heavy with Mood: On Fiona Apple’s Tidal Emery Ross The bedroom of a teenager is her entire world, or at least it was for me. When I think of my teenage years, I always come back to those rooms – first, the one in the small town where I grew up, where I hung tin foil over hideous blue-flowered wallpaper. Next comes the larger town with the room next to my parents’ and later the converted third garage bedroom. In those last two rooms, I pinned dozens of photographs of my friends, square Fiona Apple inserts from my favorite CDs, and one large poster. In those rooms, I discovered music Tidal and writing and used both to work through the torment of adolescence. 07/1996 Jim Morrison’s poetry/spoken word album An American Prayer made me a writer. I Work Group discovered him and his poetry accidentally, somehow stumbling over The Doors songs on the radio and into his brilliance. I hung his naked torso in black and white on my wall in the 90s. I wrote to the drums and his singing and poetry recitation, finding a cadence and a foundation of psychedelia and poetics that still bleeds through everything I write. In many ways, I think that album is my formative album, the one that defines me or led me to become. But I can’t think of it, or of any of my musical history, without returning to Fiona Apple’s debut, Tidal. As I had with An American Prayer, I wrote frequently to Tidal, late at night, by candlelight, letting the rhythm guide my hand.

Led by Dylan Ryan, a drummer/composer with feet firmly planted in both indie rock and jazz, the group features guitarist Timothy Young (David Sylvian, Reggie Watts, Wayne Horvitz) and Devin Hoff (Nels Cline Singers, Yoko Ono, Cibo Matto). Together on Circa, their second release on Cuneiform Records, the trio forge a wholly unique, emotionally-charged and stylistically omnivorous music that invokes elements of Rush, Fugazi, Fred Frith’s Massacre, James ‘Blood’ Ulmer, and more, and sonically ranges from fearlessly improvisational to tender; the abrasive to the understated. Indeed, this range of influences and openness to sonic possibilities is what initially drew Ryan to his bandmates. “I saw Tim Young play somewhat by chance in an old bar The Doors used to play in and I was so impressed that I wanted to be in a band with him immediately.

  • The Wallflowers "Exit Wounds" Press Release
THE WALLFLOWERS RETURN WITH EXIT WOUNDS JULY 9th VIA NEW WEST RECORDS FIRST ALBUM IN NEARLY A DECADE PRODUCED BY BUTCH WALKER AND FEATURES SHELBY LYNNE PERFORM FIRST SINGLE “ROOTS AND WINGS” ON JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! LAST NIGHT ANNOUNCE 53-DATE ARENA TOUR LAUNCHING JULY 16th The Wallflowers will release Exit Wounds on July 9th via New West Records. The 10-song set is their first album in nearly a decade and was produced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Weezer). Exit Wounds was mixed by Chris Dugan (Green Day) and features the acclaimed singer-songwriter Shelby Lynne on four songs. While it’s been nearly a decade since we’ve heard from the group with whom Jakob Dylan first made his mark, he always knew they’d return. “The Wallflowers is much of my life’s work,” he says simply. The much-anticipated record finds the band’s signature sound — lean, potent and eminently entrancing — intact. The Wallflowers announced their return with a live performance of the first single “Roots and Wings” last night on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! See the performance HERE. For the past 30 years, The Wallflowers have stood as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands — a unit dedicated to and continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. That signature style has been present through the decades, baked into the grooves of smash hits like 1996’s Bringing Down the Horse as well as more recent and exploratory fare like 2012’s Glad All Over.
