NCYC 2017 Information When: Nov 16-19, 2017 Where: Indianapolis, IN Indianapolis Convention Center & Lucas Oil Stadium Where are we staying: Embassy Suites Indianapolis North 3912 Vincennes Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46268 317-872-7700 When are we leaving: Thursday, Nov 16th • We will meet at _________________________________ no later than _____________ • Will travel with Diocesan group – 7 busses; leaving from West Jefferson no later than Noon When will we return: Sun Nov 19th • Will return to ___________________________________ by early afternoon (expected arrival in Cols 12:00pm) Note: Travel from Columbus to Indianapolis will be approximately 3-3.5 hours; there will be 7 busses in the Columbus contingent; the busses will be with us the entire trip; we will be leaving Indianapolis for Cols on Sun following breakfast (on busses by 8:30am). Appropriate movies for the bus ride should be discussed and pre-screened! What do I bring: Items for the bus: - small pillow - reading materials - snacks (don’t go overboard!) - you may bring your mobile devices - but devices other than cell phones should be kept at the hotel for safe keeping Other needed items: - AN OPEN HEART AND MIND! - toiletries (soap, shampoo, etc) - a backpack – 2017 NCYC drawstring bag will be provided, but a backup backpack may be a good idea (IMPORTANT!!! to carry your items) - pocket tissues - alcohol-based hand sanitizer - 2017 NCYC water bottle will be provided - appropriate clothing – coat or jacket; good walking shoes!!; 2017 group NCYC hooded sweatshirts will be provided; any other youth ministry related shirts; jeans; sleeping attire - spending money – any money needed for dinner Thursday and lunch and dinner on Fri and Sat, $5 recommended donation to NCYC, additional money for souvenirs and food on the road - Donations for Catholic Charities (men’s jeans, shoes, non-perishable food items, household goods) - Trade Items! (pins, hats, bandanas, etc.) Other: • All adults must have a cell phone and we must have their #’s • Youth will be asked to have their cell phone and give their #’s to their chaperones, but all other electronics should be left at the hotel during the conference. Dress Code: All participants are expected to dress in a fashion that represents modesty and good taste. Clothing must cover all undergarments and midriffs. Shoes are to be worn at all times. Clothing with vulgar or offensive language or obscene pictures is also not appropriate. The weather will be cold and possibly rainy so bring appropriate outerwear. You will be walking a lot, so wear comfortable, supportive shoes. Meals: Breakfast on Fri-Sun will be provided at hotel Lunch will be provided upon departure from Columbus on Thurs. A pizza party will be provided upon arrival back at the hotel around 11pm Thurs evening. Through live seminars, videos, and radio spots, Chris reaches millions of people each year. He is the author of the Confirmation program, Chosen, which is used by a 100,000 teens each week and is helping to transform entire parishes. Chris is also the founder of Real Life Catholic, a Denver-based non-profit which operates as the headquarters for his various initiatives. Through Real Life Catholic is building a movement of Catholics who share the beauty, power, and truth of the Gospel with a world that has largely forgotten. With all of this, Chris is most proud to be Natalie's husband and father to their six children. Sr. Miriam Heidland Sr. Miriam James holds a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Nevada-Reno, where she played volleyball on a scholarship. After graduation, she joined the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity, a missionary community serving global areas of deepest apostolic need. She has worked with elementary school students, in parish ministry, and as a high school volleyball coach and Catholic radio host. Sr. Miriam has a master's degree in theology from the Augustine Institute and has attended courses at the Theology of the Body Institute. Sr. Miriam's speaking topics include authentic love, conversion, beauty, and the healing power of Jesus Christ. Her book, Loved As I Am, was published by Ave Maria Press. Roy Petitfils Roy holds a master's in counseling and studied ministry and spirituality for five years. He served in schools as a teacher, campus minister, counselor, and administrator. He is currently a therapist at a Catholic counseling center, specializing in working with teens, young adults, and couples. Roy has written three books: What Teens Want You to Know (but Don't Tell You), What I Wish Someone Had Told Me about the First Five Years of Marriage, and God Wears Running Shoes. Roy annually conducts retreats, workshops, and parish missions. He hosts the popular podcast Today's Teenager, where he helps adults understand, reach, and influence today's teens. Roy lives with his wife, Mindi, and two sons in Youngsville, Louisiana. Brian Greenfield Brian was born and raised in Washington, DC. After spending a year of discernment with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, he served as campus minister at Seton Hall University, where he received his master's in theology and began speaking with Hard as Nails Ministries. Brian is one of the few black Catholic evangelists in the United States. He speaks and writes about the message of Jesus Christ and various aspects of Christian living. He believes that God has given him gifts to bring the message of Jesus Christ to others and knows that there is a prevailing hopelessness in this world that can only be remedied through an encounter with Christ. Brian currently serves Jesuit Catholic High School in Tampa, where he resides with his wife, Genevieve, and their two children. Fr. Joseph A. Espaillat II Fr. Joseph is a priest of the Archdiocese of New York. Growing up in Manhattan, he speaks three languages: English, Spanish, and Street! He holds a master's degree in church history from St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, New York. Fr. Joe is the pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church in the Bronx and director of the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Center. He also serves as the spiritual director to Archdiocese's Office of Youth Ministry. He loves ministering the sacraments: celebrating the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, hearing Confessions, and proclaiming the Word of God. He loves working with youth and helping them encounter Christ. Fr. Joseph enjoys spending time with family and friends as well as playing softball, basketball, and kickball! He also enjoys watching movies, writing poetry and rapping. Father is also the founder of the ministry "Messengers of Christ." Emily Wilson Emily is a speaker, author, and musician who travels the world sharing her faith through witness and worship. She has been singing since she was a child and leading music since she was a teen. While attending Arizona State University, Emily began leading worship at church with Ike Ndolo. She earned a degree in broadcast journalism, but felt called to use her education in speaking and presenting to spread the Gospel. She worked for two years as a full-time high school campus minister, before transitioning to full-time traveling ministry in 2013. Emily published her first book through Life Teen entitled I Choose the Sky. It is a scriptural devotion with reflections on seventeen women in the Bible. The heart of her ministry is helping every person recognize their identity and worth in Christ. Ever the California girl, Emily lives in Southern California with her Dutch husband, Daniël. Featured Artists TobyMac is a Grammy-winning Christian hip hop recording artist, music producer, hip-hop and pop artist, songwriter, and author. A member of Christian vocal trio DC Talk from 1987 to 2000, he has gone on to a successful solo career with the release of six studio albums: Momentum (2001), Welcome to Diverse City (2004), Portable Sounds (2007), Tonight (2010), Eye on It (2012), This Is Not a Test (2015). Between DC Talk and his solo career, he has sold more than 10 million albums and won seven Grammy Awards, including the 2016 Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Toby is also the author of several books, including Jesus Freaks: Martyrs: Stories of Those Who Stood for Jesus and City on Our Knees. He and Amanda, his wife of more than twenty years, live in Franklin, Tennessee, with their five children. Thematic Village FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA A key feature of NCYC is the thematic village (formerly known as the thematic park). Plans for the 2017 Village are being centered on how we are called to live out our Catholic faith across the country—from sea to shining sea. In the Village, you will find a combination of interactive games and activities, including hands-on service projects, with traditional exhibit booths. Participants can make a rosary, throw a football, hear live music, and pick up resources from leading Catholic publishers all in the same venue. .
