CAPTAIN FANTASTIC by Campbell Dalglish, [email protected]

FILM REVIEW: CAPTAIN FANTASTIC by Campbell Dalglish, [email protected] In an age when the biggest fear is the radicalization of youth, "Captain Fantastic," written and directed by Matt Ross, clearly defines another fear - raising children as rugged individualists! Going directly against today's consensus of American capitalist thinking, this film proposes many hypothetical scenarios: What if today's American family were to retreat into the wilderness, where survival training - physically, emotionally and mentally - was taught and exercised by parents daily? And then they were accepted into Harvard, Yale, MIT? Instead of celebrating Christmas, celebrate "Noam Chomsky Day?" What if iPads and computers were replaced at the early age of 8 by a hunter's gutting knife, a stack of books, a rope, and a cliff? What if instead of going on a shopping spree in a mall, they were exposed to unpredictable nature and all its awesome frightening phenomenon? What if that same family was then forced to return to modern society? Rather than spoil your experience here, go see it for yourself. Discover your own answers to these thought provoking "what ifs". What if you took the challenge to see this movie with your entire family, in order to discuss your values around the dinner table - without iPads and multiple screens to distract you from each other? There are many beautiful eye-opening moments in this family film that centers around the funeral of one of its central members. Going against the American consensus of how we bury our dead, Ben (Viggo Mortensen) and Leslie (Trin Miller), have agreed on a much different scenario, backed by legally binding wills.

We've Been All Over out Here. Virgil Gets Hired to Settle Things Down in Towns That Need Settling, and I Go with Him.

We’ve been all over out here. Virgil gets hired to settle things down in towns that need settling, and I go with him. -- Everett Hitch Oscar nominee Viggo Mortensen (“Eastern Promises”), four-time Oscar nominee Ed Harris (“Pollock”), Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger (“Cold Mountain”) and Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons (“Reversal of Fortune”) star in the Western “Appaloosa,” adapted from the Robert B. Parker novel. Set in 1882 in the Old West territory of New Mexico, “Appaloosa” revolves around city marshal Virgil Cole (Harris) and his deputy and partner Everett Hitch (Mortensen), who have made their reputation as peacekeepers in the lawless towns springing up in the untamed land. In the small mining community of Appaloosa, a ruthless, powerful rancher named Randall Bragg (Irons) has allowed his band of outlaws to run roughshod over the town. After the cold-blooded murder of Appaloosa’s city marshal, Cole and Hitch are hired to bring the murderer to justice. While establishing new authority with equal parts grit and guns, Cole and Hitch meet provocative newcomer Allison French (Zellweger), whose unconventional ways threaten to undermine their progress and to destroy the two lawmen’s decade-old partnership. New Line Cinema presents in association with Axon Films, a Groundswell Production of an Ed Harris film, “Appaloosa,” starring Viggo Mortensen, Ed Harris, Renée Zellweger, Jeremy Irons, Timothy Spall and Lance Henriksen. The film was directed by Ed Harris from a screenplay by Robert Knott & Ed Harris, based on the novel by Robert B. Parker. Harris, Knott and Ginger Sledge produced the film, with Michael London, Cotty Chubb, Toby Emmerich and Sam Brown serving as executive producers.

FinalProject 25/08/2018, 930 PM COGS108 Final Project Group Members: Yanyi Wang Ziwen Zeng Lingfei Lu Yuhan Wang Yuqing Deng Introduction and Background Movie revenue is one of the most important measure of good and bad movies. Revenue is also the most important and intuitionistic feedback to producers, directors and actors. Therefore it is worth for us to put effort on analyzing what factors correlate to revenue, so that producers, directors and actors know how to get higher revenue on next movie by focusing on most correlated factors. Our project focuses on anaylzing all kinds of factors that correlated to revenue, for example, genres, elements in the movie, popularity, release month, runtime, vote average, vote count on website and cast etc. After analysis, we can clearly know what are the crucial factors to a movie's revenue and our analysis can be used as a guide for people shooting movies who want to earn higher renveue for their next movie. They can focus on those most correlated factors, for example, shooting specific genre and hire some actors who have higher average revenue. Reasrch Question: Various factors blend together to create a high revenue for movie, but what are the most important aspect contribute to higher revenue?
