Windhover 2021 Application Information

The final deadline for submitting applications is Friday, August 27th at 11:59pm. Once you have submitted your application through the Google Form application link, you may be asked to schedule an interview in the following week. The listed positions below are paid jobs through Student Media. You may apply for more than one position. Assistant Design Editor

The assistant design editor works alongside the design editor in the visual creation of Windhover. The assistant design editor will be asked to complete tasks such as the final , designing pages, and organizing layout. The assistant design editor will contribute to the design editor & editor-in-chief’s publication theme and assist in the scheduling of design deadlines. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse. Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator is necessary, Adobe Photoshop proficiency is preferred.

Promotions Designer

Promotions designer is responsible for all visual marketing surrounding the Windhover brand such as social media, website, and more. Responsibilities include designing social media posts, designing Open Mic Night/Release Party posters, planning what possible merchandise can look like, and the yearly rebranding of Windhover creating a new logo. They will have access to Windhover social media accounts where they will be sharing the responsibility of account access and can post/change the profiles with approval from the editor-in-chief. They will work with the design editor and assistant design editor to create brand continuity and cohesiveness throughout the book and promotional outlets. The promotions designer may be asked to contribute to the book-making process and design pages for the publication as well. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse.

The managing editor works alongside the editor-in-chief in the publication of Windhover. The managing editor should have experience with media or , and they should be comfortable with using social media. The position will include keeping social media and our website up-to-date, sending a monthly newsletter, and proofreading the final book. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse.

Audio & Video Editor

A/V editor is responsible for creating and overseeing a committee of volunteers to review audio/video based submissions that get posted onto Bandcamp and Vimeo (windhover.bandcamp.com and vimeo.com/windhovervideo) at the end of the school year. The A/V editor is Windhover’s point person for soliciting submissions from musicians and videographers, so they must have an eye (and ear) for what is high quality work within these fields. The editor has a big hand in ensuring open mic has plenty of musical representation, so they would be asked to recruit musicians for these events. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse. Previous experience in music, video, and publishing is preferred but not necessary.

Visual Editor

The visual editor is responsible for overseeing all visual pieces that are submitted to Windhover. They will recruit and lead a committee of volunteers who will assist them in selecting the artwork that will be featured in Windhover LV. Ideally, Windhover’s newest visual editor will have a background in visual art that gives them an eye for valuing composition, color, balance, and framing to then determine if a piece belongs in the book for publishing. Once pieces are selected the visual editor will be expected to communicate with artists to provide feedback, ask for edits, reject/accept their works, and more. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse.

Literary Editor

The literary editor is responsible for creating and overseeing a literary committee to review prose and poetry submissions, recruiting for the committee, and then meeting with the committee on a predetermined schedule to judge works. The literary editor is also responsible for organizing all submissions in Google Drive and assigning people to edit works to ensure standardization and quality. This editor will delegate responsibilities to the Assistant Literary Editor and has final say over the literary team in regards to submission selection. The literary editor will be expected to have proficiently in the Chicago Manual of Style for the of literary pieces. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse.

The assistant literary editor works alongside the literary editor in reviewing poetry/prose submissions and organizing the literary committee for Windhover. The assistant literary editor will be asked to complete tasks such as proofreading/copyediting and assisting the literary editor in creating the final selection list to present to the editor-in-chief. The assistant literary editor will be expected to have proficiently in the Chicago Manual of Style for the editing of literary pieces. All editors are expected to attend weekly meetings, keep up consistent communication with the editor-in-chief, and to promote/attend Windhover events unless reasonable excuse.
