Indianapolis First Friends Meeting embarked on this journey over three years ago. We moved from a hope and dream of a program such as this to a reality with a completed period of study when eleven of our youth were affirmed by our Meeting in June 2015. This ten-month program of study and experience was created for our young people to help them explore their spirituality, discover their identity as Quakers and to inform them of Quaker history, faith and practice. While Quakers do not confirm creeds or statements made for them at baptism, etc, we felt it important that young people be informed and af - firmed in their understanding of who they are as Friends.

January Releases Aaron Keyes - Through It All Description Aaron’s heart is to restore the Word of God to the foundation of corporate worship, which led to Aaron and his wife Megan launching their worship school, 10,000 Fathers. Since then, many worship pastors from around the world have come through their home, gone through their training, and become part of their broader family. Aaron has recently been to the UK to launch the first 10,000 Fathers School in England, as well as host and lead worship at the Mission Worship conference, where he has partnered and lead worship over the last 10 years. Aaron is one of the great songwriters of our generation, writing songs such as ‘Sovereign Over Us’, ‘Song Of Moses’, and co-writing with some of the most well-known worship leaders of today. His new worship album Through It All is where resounding lyrical depth meets refreshing musical height as Spirit greets Truth in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. The album features co-writes with Bethel’s Brian Johnson, Jesus Culture’s Chris Quilala, Stuart Townend, Pete James, & Housefires’ Pat Barrett. Songs from the album are already starting to be sung in Chuches across the UK and the world, particularly ‘King Forevermore’ the co-write with Pete James. • The Apostles' Creed in Modern English (From the Book of Common Prayer)
The Apostles' Creed in Modern English (From the Book of Common Prayer) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *The word “Catholic” in the Apostles’ Creed does NOT refer to the Roman Catholic church but to Christ’s true Church (Big “C”) in the universal sense of all believers. ---------------------------------------------------- Why Is This Creed Important? While not actually written by the apostles (that we know of), the Apostles Creed is the oldest known creed of the Church. It provides a synopsis of faithful, Christian belief. It dates back to 140 AD (at least) and provides a type of format for future creeds. If you memorize a creed, this is a good one to memorize. Rich Mullins wrote a song called “Creed” that is essentially the Apostles Creed set to music. It was later popularized by Third Day. The song is a good way to memorize. However, both Mullins and Third day use a latter version of the Apostles Creed which includes the phrase “he descended into Hell” in reference to Jesus death and burial.

  • Faith Through Lawyering: Finding and Doing What Is Mine to Do
FAITH THROUGH LAWYERING: FINDING AND DOING WHAT IS MINE TO DO Randy Lee* I. INTRODUCTION When one sets out to write on Christian lawyering, he undertakes an enormous task and not simply because he attempts to discuss seri- ously "the lawyer joke to top them all!"1 Perhaps the greater challenge is that there are almost as many ways to address the issue of lawyering as 2 a Christian as there are traditions and sub-traditions of Christians. Within the Catholic tradition, for example, Professor Teresa Stanton Collett recently approached the question of how the Christian works as a lawyer as one that must recognize the wholeness and interconnectedness of each person in many roles.3 Robert J. Muise approached the same . Associate Professor of Law, Widener University School of Law - Harrisburg Cam- pus. The author would like to thank Paula Heider and especially Shannon Whitson for technical support and encouragement, and Brenda Lee for sharing callings with me. The author would also like to thank Ann Britton, Craig Callaghan, John Dernbach, James Diehm, Anthony Fejfar, David Gregory, Mary Kate Kearney, Samuel Levine, Michael Pipa, Jeff Powell, Loren Prescott, Bob Rodes, Teresa Stanton Collett, and Tom Shaffer for their comments and encouragement; and Joe Allegretti for writing the book that inspired this project. As this article was being written, God called Mother Teresa and Rich Mullins to end their sojourn on Earth and join Him in Heaven. May this work reflect more of them than of me and more of God than of them. I JOSEPH G. ALLEGRETTI, THE LAWYER'S CALLING: CHRISTIAN FAITH AND LEGAL PRACTICE 1 (1996).

  • Jesus Is for Losers by Shane Claiborne
Copyright © 2008 Center for Christian Ethics at Baylor University Jesus Is for Losers BY SHANE CLAIBORNE In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus warns, “Do not judge, so that you may not be judged.” Folks are hungry for a Christianity that mirrors Jesus, not the judgmentalism that has done more to repel than to woo people towards God’s grace. few months back as I was getting ready to speak to a group of folks, the pastor approached me beforehand to point out that a couple of A gay men were sitting on the front row, holding hands. He felt the need to point it out. “Are you going to say something about that, about homosexuality?” he whispered. I laughed, and said, “I’m not sure what you have in mind. I could begin by saying I praise God that they felt welcome enough to come into this place, that I am glad they are here.” That is not what he had in mind. I wondered to myself, following his logic, if he would then want me to ask everyone who had been divorced and remarried to stand up so we could give them a little firm rebuke. In fact, maybe we should just station folks at the doors of the church like bouncers in clubs—sort of a sin patrol. They could ask people as they enter the building: “Have you been prideful or greedy this week?” And we could bounce all the nasty sinners out of the service. We’d be left with much smaller crowds to deal with.
