Your cooperation is appreciated, Savlabot Materials for Completion: 40 Pin Knitting Machine - I have the Loops and Threads Machine Worsted Weight Yarn: ● Suggested yarns ○ Yarn for Snowman's Body - I used Bernant Baby Velvet Yarn ○ Yarn for Scarf & Hat - I used Lion Brand Ferris Wheel ○ Yarn (or carrot button) for Carrot Nose - I used a leftover bit of orange yarn White Thread or String Darning Needle Beads or Buttons for Eyes Small Beads for Mouth Poly-Fil Stuffing Scissors Tension: Moderate (middle hole only) ​ Optional supplies: Row Counter Felt for scarf Carrot Button for nose Tiny Top Hat Sizes: Small - Approximately 5” x 5.5” when finished Large - 7” x 7.5” Gauge:​ Not terribly important for this pattern Directions:​ Knitting Machine Using the White Velvet Yarn Cast on and crank out… ● Small - 50 Rounds or until work measures 5.5” unstretched. ● Large - 70 Rounds or until work measures 7” unstretched. I use a row counter but measured my work on the machine from the pins to the cast on edge. Find me on instagram @savlabot. Please use #savlabot for any images you share. 1 Cast off by using the darning needle and picking up all stitches from machine. Cinch both ends so that they are somewhat closed, then pull one end within itself and cinch tightly to close, tie off with a knot, and trim, the remaining tail will be left on the inside of the snowman’s body. Flip inside out. Using the white string and your darning needle, pick up every other stitch along the folded edge to create a drawstring around the entire circumference. Find me on instagram @savlabot. Please use #savlabot for any images you share. 2 Cinch slightly, leaving enough room for filling with the stuffing. Fill with Poly-Fil and cinch tight to close. Leave a pretty long yarn tail, as you will use this later. Using a new piece of white string and the darning needle, create another drawstring by picking up every other stitch along a row about 2.5” -3.5” down from the top. Find me on instagram @savlabot. Please use #savlabot for any images you share. 3 Tie with a knot and wrap around once. Tie a couple of knots and leave a long tail. You will use this thread to add your details to the face. Take the string from the bottom of the snowman and using the darning needle thread it up to the neck of the snowman, hiding the string behind the stitches so the string cannot be seen. Tie this thread to the thread from the neck, pull slightly as it will help shape the bottom of the snowman. Find me on instagram @savlabot. Please use #savlabot for any images you share. 4 Now you are ready to add the details. I added beads for the eyes and mouth, I used flat round beads for the eyes and small black beads for the mouth. I crocheted a small carrot for the nose. To add the eyes I used one of the four strings from the neck and my darning needle, I brought the yarn up to a spot on the face and then added one of the beads, I then inserted the needle and came back out a few stitches over and added the other bead and then brought the string back to the neck to tie off. I first crocheted a nose by following these steps: Using an appropriate size hook for the yarn (I would suggest a size 3 or weight yarn). Chain 4 and join to make a ring. Single Crochet in a spiral decreasing every few stitches until you have one left, slip stitch and pull yarn through. Weave in tail back to the base of the carrot for sewing onto the snowman’s face. Find me on instagram @savlabot. Please use #savlabot for any images you share. 6 Using the same method for the eyes I added 5 tiny beads for the mouth. For the scarf, you can knit, crochet or add a strip of felt. An easy scarf can be made by using Super Bulky Yarn and a crochet hook. With a crochet hook, chain enough to wrap once around the neck of the snowman with 3” on each end leftover. Add an additional bit of yarn to each end to look like fringe. Tie around neck of snowman and sew on using the strings from the neck. My scarf is knit using Ferris Wheel Yarn by Lion Brand. I casted on 90 sts and knit 6 rows, binded off and called it a scarf. If you want to make a knit hat for your snowman you can do so on the 40 pin machine for the large snowman. You will need a 22 pin machine if you want a small enough hat for the small snowman. You can also hand knit or crochet a hat or leave the little fella with just a scarf, either way the snowman will be super cute. Find me on instagram @savlabot. My enthusiasm for a project usually turned to boredom before it was finished. Even worse, the disappointment I felt when a project didn’t fit right made me feel that I had wasted a huge amount of time. One day, a light bulb went off in my head. I had seen a knitting machine demonstration at a craft show several years earlier but hadn’t thought about it since. With a new baby, no time, and lots of knitting I wanted to do, surely this was the answer! I thought I would be able to use a knitting machine to make any hand-knitting pattern. So before buying your knitted fabrics, take a minute and brush up on your Knit IQ. A very heavy fabric that was first knitted, then carefully shrunk into a Boiled Wool Knit: wonderfully condensed fabric that looks like a woven. Limited amount of stretch. A texture rashel knit made with a loopy boucle! yarn. It appears in a Boucle Knit: variety of weights from lightweight dress fabrics to heavy coating fabrics. Limited amount of stretch. A form of stretch terry containing tufted, velvety chenille type yarns. Chenille Knit: Moderate amount of stretch. Fabric is made by using a double set of needles to produce a double Double Knit: thickness of fabric. Both sides usually look the same. Excellent body, good shape retention, and limited stretch. Fabric is made on a circular knitting machine and formed by Interlock Knit: interlocking looped stitches. They are similar to jersey but both sides usually look the same. Fabrics can have a tendency to run. Good crosswise stretch. Fabric with complex designs and textures. Can be a single knit, Jacquard Knit: double knit, or rib knit. Limited to moderate amount of stretch. A single knit has a smooth flat surface with definite right and wrong sides. The right side is smooth and has lengthwise vertical rows; the Jersey Knit: back has horizontal rows of half-circles or purl knit stitches.
