Binding Edge Page 2 Mobberley Parish Council Update With the news of lockdown finally coming to an end and Mobberley Parish Council being able to print and deliver the newsletter this month we wanted to do an extended edition to make up for the online copies which have been avail- able over the last few months. We are featuring some additional articles which we hope will help our local businesses, celebrate the work of our volunteers through lockdown and also en- hance the presence of the council. This month you will be able to read through the following: • Meet our Council • Meet our Volunteers • Support Local • Local businesses re-opening Meet our Council As you saw last month we celebrated our previous Chairman Janet Cookson Binding Edge and saw her off in the style she deserved for all her hard work and dedication to the village. This month we want to welcome you to our new Chairman, Hannah Moss. Hannah has lived in the village her whole life and is keen to follow in Ja- net's footsteps to support the village. Hannah is part of the TDC, Planning, Youth Coun- cil, Village Pride and the Finance Committee. Hannah brings to the council a wealth of knowledge in regards to Project Management, a background in Finance along with a passion for gardening. Calling all Mobberley businesses!! The Year 6 Young Leaders and the PTA at the school are supporting a wild flower project. The seeds are free of charge and just need scattering. Please contact the PTA for some seeds and lets make Mobberley bloom this summer . Page 3 Meet our Volunteers First up is our Parish Ranger - Alistair MacLeod, in his own words…. I have been asked to write about my experience of volunteering in Mobberley which I have to say takes me right out of my comfort zone but threat- ened with it being written by someone else here goes. Let's start with acknowledging that much of what goes on in our community depends on volun- teers: the Parish Council, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, the Pre- school committee, the Rose Queen Festival, The Victory Hall Trust Deed Committee, School Gov- ernance, the Friends of Mobberley Primary School (PTA), various individuals who pick up litter, both Churches, the Mobberley Football Club, the village response to the Covid lockdown, the Community Meadow and the Orchard and I’m sure I’ll have missed something or someone else. So, although I tend to get involved in a few of the above groups I am cer- tainly not alone. I moved to Mobberley in 1988 in time for the first of our three children to start Binding Edge at Mobberley Primary School. There must be something in my genes that en- courages me to get involved but I was soon in the Friends/PTA and then a par- ent governor. Inevitably as the boys became involved in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts I was persuaded to join the committee and as all three then became in- volved in the Trafford Youth Orchestra, so did I. As it happens, I don’t particu- larly enjoy committee activity – I much prefer to get on and do things, some- thing I definitely inherited from my father. Retirement inevitably presented a challenge. I have always been interested in genealogy and the relocation of the Family History Society of Cheshire’s re- search library to the Rajar building led to me volunteering there. 2014 followed shortly afterwards and I suggested it might be nice to research as much as pos- sible about the 48 men who died and the 240 who served and survived. The re- sultant booklet, funded by the Parish Council was delivered to every household and stimulated a lot of interest which thankfully continues as we commemorate those from our village who served culminating in the poppy centenary in 2018. Like many in the village, I care not just about its history but its present. We have very few farmers left. This lack of proper ownership of the land reveals itself particularly in the lack of maintenance of fences and hedges. Page 4 The days of dedicated local labour keeping signs clean, hedges and verges cut, collecting litter (a modern plague) are long gone and if we don’t look after our environment including the built one I for one won’t feel comfortable. The Vic- tory Hall should be a matter of pride for everyone in Mobberley. The iconic building is 100 years old this year and I’m glad that I have been part of many who have worked over recent years to ensure it becomes fit for another 100. I’m fortunate not to have to worry about career and job prospects and my chil- dren are all now independent. I have the time and interest to do what I do and realise that not everyone can but if I have a philosophy it is that you get out of life what you put into it and while I can I will. The Mobberley Parish Council would also like to extend on Alistair's words and show some of the work Alistair has carried out this year around the village, we would like the whole village to join us in expressing our thanks for all his hard work! Binding Edge Page 5 Support Local This months support local is Waugh Brow Farm Shop is nestled in the heart of the beautiful Cheshire countryside in Mobberley. Run by Dave and Ruth Jones, we are a family business which has been here since 1985. Our farm shop is well known for our friendly atmosphere and high quality (tasty!) local and home grown produce. We’re very proud to be a real working farm with an array of animals. We have over 130 cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens (great for the kids to come and visit!) and our farm is located across 140 acres of fields and coun- tryside. REALLY GREAT FOOD...FROM A REALLY GREAT FARM We’ve been Binding Edge farmers for years so we genuinely know our stuff. Dave (aka Master Butcher!) is a lifelong farmer as was his father and his grandfa- ther too! Whether it’s raising cows, chickens and pigs or cooking meat, vegetables and scrumptious goodies -we’re experts at bring- ing our custom- ers delicious food from a real work- ing farm! Page 6 Binding Edge Page 7 Businesses re-opening From April the 12th we will finally see our local businesses throw open their doors to welcome back the public.
