Brooklyn, New York, and Queens Public Library Systems’ Culture Pass Resumes Free, In-Person Passes Passes to select cultural institutions throughout the five boroughs available now to library cardholders October 27, 2020 – Brooklyn Public Library (BPL), the New York Public Library (NYPL, serving Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island), and Queens Public Library (QPL) today announced that their joint initiative Culture Pass – a citywide library program providing free access to library cardholders to cultural institutions across the five boroughs – has resumed service at select participating institutions, with limited capacity. Created in 2018, Culture Pass has provided nearly 110,000 free passes to museums, gardens, historical societies, performance venues, and other cultural institutions. As institutions across New York City reopen to the public, the City’s tri-library system is providing library patrons select opportunities to visit New York City’s unparalleled arts and culture organizations which have reopened with updated safety protocols in place, free of charge. Through Culture Pass, participating cultural institutions provide day-passes for library cardholders to reserve online and then present the printed or digital pass to gain free admission to a specified organization. As of November 1, 25 participating organizations including the Alice Austen House Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Kingland Homestead, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and New York Botanical Garden are offering in-person passes. Additional museums will offer passes on a rolling basis, as they re-open and are able to begin taking passes again. Chapter 9: Transportation (Vehicular Traffic) F. VEHICULAR TRAFFIC EXISTING CONDITIONS STREET AND ROADWAY NETWORK Traffic conditions in the study area vary in relation to a number of factors—the nature of the street and roadway network, surrounding land uses and the presence of major traffic generators, and the intensity of interaction between autos, taxis, trucks, buses, deliveries, and pedestrians. The study area contains five subareas, or zones—Lower Manhattan, the Lower East Side, East Midtown, the Upper East Side, and East Harlem—and each has different street and roadway characteristics along its length. East Midtown, the Upper East Side, and East Harlem are characterized by a regular street grid, with avenues running north-south and streets running east- west. Each of the major north-south avenues—First, Second, Third, Lexington, Park, Madison, and Fifth Avenues—are major traffic carriers. There is just one limited-access roadway, the FDR Drive, which extends around the eastern edge of the study area from its northern end to its southern end. A general overview of the character of the street and roadway network in each of the five zones is presented below. Lower Manhattan is characterized by an irregular grid pattern south of Canal Street. Except for a few major arterials, most streets within the area are narrow with usually just one "moving" lane. Travel is time-consuming and slow along them. Pedestrian traffic often overflows into the street space, further impeding vehicular traffic flow. Water Street and Broadway are the two key north-south streets in this area, and carry two or more effective travel lanes, yet are often difficult to negotiate due to frequent double-parked truck traffic. -

Much of Downtown’s recent growth has been office construction, hotels, new residential development and the adaptive reuse of office buildings for residential use. These expanding residential, office and visitor populations have created a greater need for usable green and open space Downtown. The desire to have a place for respite and recreation in the center city dates back to the beginning of Fort Worth. In 1892, the City Park Garden, which straddled the Clear Fork of the Trinity River roughly between today’s West Seventh Street and Lancaster bridges, provided such a place. Rotary Park - developed by the Rotary Club in 1916, on the southeast corner of West Seventh and Summit Avenue - included a small bath house and Rotary Club headquarters. -

NOVEMBER 2019 The Riverdale NEWSLETTER YM-YWHA Senior Center From The Director Each year, we are asked to forward copies of many of the documents that are posted around the Center to the New York City Department for the Aging. It occurred to me that many of our members may not take time to read these documents despite their importance. If you look in the glass case behind the volunteers when you sign in for lunch, you will see the Senior Citizen’s Bill of Rights; a poster reminding everyone that our suggested contribution for lunch is $2.50; and a grievance procedure should you have a complaint. On the door by the elevator, you will see our evacuation procedures and the rules for members of the Senior Center. I encourage you to take a few minutes to read these documents. We post this information not just because we are required to but to ensure you know your rights and feel safe and protected at the Center. If you would like hard copies or electronic copies of anything that is posted, let me know. The Center is a place where older adults should feel comfortable seeking help and I am very pleased that we have an expanding Social Service program. Please join me in welcoming two new part-time social workers to our team. Jennifer Raff replaced Jamee Adams as our Safe at Home Coordinator. Safe at Home provides case management to older adults in their homes as part of our UJA partnership with the YM & YWHA of Washington Heights. -
