Vice President’s Report

Committee Reports

PROPOSALS FOR DISCUSSION:

1. Bylaw correction: Article XV Executive Council, Structure, E. as was approved by BOD on October 15, 2005 was printed incorrectly in the current Bylaws correction to read: If an executive Committee member has not been active or has not attended a meeting in a two (2) year period, their seat will be forfeited.

2. Registration requires a certain number of ApHC “F” numbered horses in a pedigree of an applicant horse for FAHR registry. When an application comes in where the horse does have the generations of ApHC breeding to be eligible for FAHR, but these horses comes mostly from horses other than Appaloosa breeding that do not go back to the ApHC “F” numbered horses, the application must be reviewed by the Breeders Advisory Committee before any certificate can be issued.

3. Beginning January 1, 2010, FAHR eligible applicant horses will have no non- Appaloosa ancestors in their fourth generation, and must be 90% Appaloosa by pedigree in the fifth generation. All horses with a registration # of 69,999 or less will continue too be considered purebred for eligibility purposes, and its ancestors shall. not count against the number of crosses allowed, regardless of the generation in which it appears.

4. FAHR to establish a gene pool base of 2000 horses in the registry, upon which time the FAHR would “close it books” and the 69,999 rule would no longer be valid and all horses must be 75% Appaloosa blood bred in the first four generations to qualify for registry.

5. All horses to qualify for registration, must trace back to the Foundation F-numbered horse in the ApHC Stud Books, or the Canadian Foundation Stud Book with a percentage of 75%. This rule would exclude any horse behind the 69,999 rule until which time the gene pool has met the required number of 2000 registered and this exemption no longer applies.

APPALOOSA By Gene Lindberg There is no common horse, this spotted one— How did he get here? Out of Mexico He is a mystery! His breed has run To which some old sea-trader, long ago, True to a strong, swift, noble kind that came Brought his forebears from Persia… so man may say From Asia before man or horse were tame. Who trace the routes by which world bloodlines stray Old Chinese paintings show the spotted roan, And yet this horse remains a mystery The long-dead Persian poets he was known…. Deeper than old recorded history. As Rakush, steed of Rustem… and his strain What wells of strength beneath that spotted hide Still thrives today upon this western plain. 26 FAHR SADDLE LOG PROGRAM

The Saddle Log Program is a great way for you to earn awards for any time you spend in the saddle on an Appaloosa. We have a program for adults and a program for youth. This program recognizes the need for personal achievement for the individual who daily or weekly enjoys the benefits gained from riding. Whether you ride out on the trail, train and compete in shows, ride in parades, perform ranch work, or whatever your pleasure, those hours will count towards earning great awards. Qualifications for the Saddle Log Program: 1. Credit for saddle log hours will not be given nor will records of hours completed be kept on any eligible person until he or she is enrolled in the saddle log program. To enroll, a program application must be completed and returned to FAHR along with the annual filing fee of $15 for adults and a one time filing fee of $20 for youth. Your FAHR mem- bership fees must also be paid for each qualifying year. 2. For adults, saddle log eligibility is for one year, with each FAHR MERIT PROGRAM riding season starting on December 1st (preceding year) and running through November 30th of that ride year.
