2021 LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVAL The Chinese Community Center (CCC) is hosting its annual 2021 Lunar New Year Celebration, a livestreamed, multicultural arts showcase that commemorates the Year of the Ox and bridges East and West by highlighting the diversity of Houston. The Lunar New Year Festival has been the most celebrated event at CCC, and the Festival regularly draws over 12,000 attendees from all over the Greater Houston area. However, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, CCC will transform the 2021 Festival into a three-day, online celebration so that all families can enjoy this culturally rich celebration from the the comfort of their homes.

The 2021 Lunar New Year Celebration will take place over three days, from Thursday, February 11, to Saturday, February 13, 2021.

DAY 1 - FEBRUARY 11, THURSDAY NEW YEAR’S EVE REUNION DINNER The New Year’s Eve Reunion Dinner is one of the most important traditions of the Lunar New Year holiday. CCC will celebrate this tradition by livestreameing on Thursday, February 11, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. We will visit local restaurants in Houston’s Asiatown to showcase their takes on many culturally distinctive foods traditionally served at reunion dinners in , Taiwan, and . CCC will also present a dumpling making class so that attendees can learn how to make Chinese dumplings (), a must-have dish symbolizing good fortune for the New Year.

DAY 2 - FEBRUARY 12, FRIDAY LUNAR NEW YEAR CELEBRATION On the Lunar New Year day, Friday, February 12, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., viewers will be regaled with performances from across the cultural spectrum by local artists and groups that demonstrate the breadth of Houston’s diversity and promote multicultural awareness. The performances will include folk arts, music, dance, and martial arts, as well as traditional and lion dances. In addition to Chinese performing arts, cultural performances from many other ethnic communities will showcase the vibrant cultures of Houston.

DAY 3 - FEBRUARY 13, SATURDAY CUSTOMS & TRADITIONS THROUGH ART On Saturday, February 13, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., we will present a culturally rich, educational program highlighting stories about the historical origin, legends, and cultural traditions of the Lunar New Year holiday. The Chinese calligraphy demonstration and lantern- making workshop will be great activities for the entire family. Join this celebration finale to bring good luck and good health for 2021!
