Germany Spring Break 2018 Itinerary

Travel Dates: March 3, 2018 – March 11, 2018

Day 1: Fly to Meet your group and travel on an overnight flight to .

Day 2: Berlin Arrive in Berlin: Welcome to Berlin, capital city of Germany. Poised at the cutting edge of European culture, this German capital has been transformed since the fell in 1989. Explore Berlin: Get acquainted with Berlin on a walking tour. Stroll past cafes, restaurants, and embassies along , Berlin’s most elegant boulevard. Holocaust Memorial: Explore this large, modern park featuring striking “stelae,” or concrete slabs. Venture into the Memorial’s “Place of Information” to find a list of all known Jewish Holocaust victims. Dinner: Enjoy dinner with your group as you reflect on the day’s activities.

Day 3: Berlin Sightseeing tour of Berlin: On your tour, visit the Museum, named after the checkpoint station that once guarded the border between East and West Germany. Here you can see escape cars, hot air balloons, and even a submarine—all used in risky border crossings. You’ll also visit the Topography of Terror Museum, housed in the former headquarters of the and the SS. Panel Discussion: Gain insight into life on both sides of the when you participate in an illuminating panel-led discussion.

Day 4: Berlin Alternative Berlin Walking Tour: Make like a hip local on this anthropological adventure. Take in Berlin’s underground artist communities, vibrant multicultural neighborhoods, and more off- the-beaten-path sights.

Day 5: Berlin Explore the city with your classmates and your professors.

Day 6: Berlin Reichstag Dome: Take a look inside the historical seat of Germany’s parliament. See which landmarks you can spot from this massive glass dome that overlooks the cityscape

Day 7: Hamburg Arrive in Hamburg: Welcome to Hamburg, second largest city in Germany and an up-and- coming destination for young professionals and design enthusiasts. Walking Tour of Hamburg: Join a walking tour of one of the most affluent cities in Europe, then enjoy dinner with your group.

Day 8: Hamburg Hamburg by boat: What better way to explore Germany’s biggest port than by water? Take in views of this maritime city’s prominent landmarks. While many large businesses call the city home, you’ll notice that there are very few skyscrapers lining the skyline. Instead, you’ll find office buildings shaped like ocean liners (the Chilehaus) and the enormous Stadtpark, which houses one of Europe’s biggest planetariums. Check them out today during your time in the city.

Day 9: Depart for home Your Tour Director assists with your transfer to the airport, where you’ll check in for your return flight home.
