J. Shrimali2 1,2Faculty 1,2Department of Civil Engineering 1,2Faculty of Tech. & Engg., The M. S. University of Baroda, Vadodara, India Abstract— Vadodara is one of the highest industrialized in the alluvial region between two major perennial rivers districts in Gujarat state of India. Varieties of industries like, named Mahi and Narmada of the state. Reliance Petrochemicals & Oil Refinery, GSFC, Nandesari GIDC and other industrial estates etc are located in and around Vadodara City. Rapid industrialization and urbanization have adversely affected water and air of these areas over last few decades. Mahi and Narmada are the main perennial rivers flowing through the study area while Vishwamitry, Dhadhar and Mini are other important rivers. The present research has been done for the analysis of physical and chemical parameters of ground water for industrial area in western region of Vadodara District. The analysis is carried out for major physical and chemical parameters of pollutants in terms of pH, TDS, Ca+, Mg+, Cl- , NO2-N, NO3-N and NH3-N by using data of open wells, tube wells and piezometers of agencies like Gujarat Water Resources Development Corporation (GWRDC) and Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB). Study of exploratory boreholes reveals the nature of formation of water quality at various depths. The groundwater quality, in general is satisfying potable standards in the study area but it is deteriorated in certain area of western part of alluvial region and in few locations metals like Manganese and Iron are required to be observed. In areas of inherent salinity and also along western part of the district, underlain by alluvium aquifer system hydrologically connected to the Mahi estuary has high TDS in groundwater. Fig. 1: Vadodara district (study area) Key words: Ground water, alluvium aquifer, TDS, pH, In the western region of Vadodara city, the industrial piezometer, GWRDC, GPCB, WQI clusters include chemical and fertilizers, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, Cotton textiles, Machine tools, Rubber & plastic, Glass, Engineering, Tobacco, Fisheries and dairy. I. INTRODUCTION Ground water quality is one of the very important aspects for The known major industries located near Vadodara city are considering water for drinking, agricultural and other uses. The district has huge reserves of Dolomite and Fluorspar. Fluorite is produced in Kwant taluka. In addition to of Industries commissionrate, Govt. of Gujarat, June, contamination from these industries there are also other 2007). Manufacturing plants of several private industry sources of ground water pollution due to partially treated players as well as public sector units such as Gujarat Alkalis waste from seven sewage treatment plants of urban area and and Chemicals Limited (GACL) and Gujarat State Fertilizers fertilizers and pesticides from the agricultural area. The & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC) are located here. present study analysis is carried out for major physical and chemical parameters of pollutants by monitoring open wells, tube wells and piezometers of study area. II. STUDY AREA LOCATION Vadodara, which used to be known as Baroda, is the third largest city in the Western Indian State of Gujarat, after Ahmedabad and Surat. The latitude of Vadodara is 22.3073 and longitude of Vadodara is 73.1811. METHODOLOGY AND DATA FOR ANALYSIS A. Analysis of Physico-chemical parameter Various ground water pollution parameters from GPCB and GWRDC are used for the study analysis. The ground water quality parameters of specific 43 sample locations (from GPCB) of May 2009, covering major industries of western region of the district were used to determine Water Quality Index (WQI) using normal statistical analysis. These parameters are pH, TDS, NO2-N, NO3-N, Fluorides, NH3-N, etc. Also the correlation between the pollution parameters has been carried out looking to the effect of industrial area. In addition, data of 59 sample locations (from GWRDC) during pre-monsoon and post monsoon period (May 2009 and Oct. 2009) of entire Vadodara district were used for study analysis. These groundwater parameters are chloride, calcium and magnesium. The correlation coefficient matrix obtained between the analyzed parameters of ground water quality. It falls in the Survey of India, degree sheets numbered 46B, 46F, 46J & 46G. The district is bounded in north & northeast by Anand, Panchmahals & Dahod districts, in east & in south east by Madhya Pardesh & Maharashtra State, in south east by Narmada district & in south & in west by Bharuch district. Vadodara city, the district headquarter is about 100 km south of Ahmedabad, is well connected to other parts of the State & Country by network of highways and railway network. Vadodara is redesigned in 1997 on the grounds that entire Tilakwada Taluka and a few towns of Nasvadi Taluka of the district has been moved in recently made Narmada region. Kavant Taluka has been recently made from Chhota Udaipur Taluka of the district. In this way at present the district has 12 talukas with 1,553 villages and 16 towns. Figure 2.1 Taluka Boundaries and Taluka Headquarters of Vadodara District. • A Spatio-Temporal Mapping of Malaria Risk Zones Integrating Annual Parasite Index and Geographic Information System in Vadodara District, Gujarat (India)
National Journal of Physiology, Pharmacy and Pharmacology RESEARCH ARTICLE A Spatio-temporal mapping of malaria risk zones integrating Annual Parasite Index and Geographic Information System in Vadodara District, Gujarat (India) Bindu Bhatt, Janak P Joshi Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat, India Correspondence to: Bindu Bhatt, E-mail: [email protected] Received: December 11, 2018; Accepted: January 09, 2019 ABSTRACT Background: Risk maps have proven to be important tools for public health decision-making and priority setting for vector-borne diseases because they assist with the targeting of prevention and control efforts. The spatial information obtained from mapping malaria hazard and risk will provide a guideline for control programs and preparing health facilities based on the requirement of each area. Geographic information system (GIS) has been continuously used for the analysis of spatial health-related data. It can be a useful tool for analyzing the spread of diseases. Aim and Objective: This study attempts to identify malaria risk zones at macrolevel based on annual parasite index (API). Materials and Methods: Spatiotemporal API data (2006–2011) are integrated into GIS and weighted overlay analysis is performed to delineate risk zones in Vadodara district. Results: On the basis of API as recorded during 2006–2011 from the villages of the Vadodara district, it was figured out that 50% region of Chhota Udaipur Taluka has recorded continuously very high incidence of malaria and followed by part of Sankheda and then Dabhoi Taluka. Conclusion: API has declined, but still a considerable region is more than above the desirable limit of the API and several vulnerable regions are there with low API and there is the prospect of elimination of this disease in this region.

Office of the Commissioner for persons with disabilities vi Feedback form Preface There are several estimates regarding the magnitude of disability in India. The Census 2001 indicates that 2.2 percent of the total population is affected by disability. World Health Organisation (WHO) puts the figure at five to six per cent of the total population while other reports put the figure at as high as ten per cent.1 If we add to this people with temporary disabilities, this figure would be much higher. Both people with temporary and permanent disabilities need to access services like hospitals, physiotherapy centres and aids and appliances. In addition, people with disabilities also want to know where they can access education, vocational training and assistance for employment. Information on where these services are located and how to access them is often not readily available with community based organisations who are in contact with persons with disabilities. There is insufficient co-ordination and linkage between organisations working at the grassroot and rehabilitation providers. This directory has been prepared so that it can serve as a tool to bridge this gap in information and linkages.
