The first attempt was made by a 20 h.p. Clement-Talbot. When this was left up north after heavy rains, the overlanders returned to Adelaide and set out again later with a 25 Clement-Talbot, picking the other car up en route. The 20 h.p. was low tension magneto equipped. The 25 h.p. car had a high-tension magneto with four trembler coils.
