In order to determine if there have been any recent changes in HPIV epidemiology in England and Wales, laboratory surveillance data between 1998 and 2013 were analysed. The UK national laboratory surveillance database, LabBase, and the newly established laboratory-based virological surveillance system, the Respiratory DataMart System (RDMS), were used. Descriptive analysis was performed to examine the distribution of cases by year, age, sex and serotype, and to examine the overall temporal trend using the χ2 test. A random-effects model was also employed to model the number of cases. Sixty-eight per cent of all HPIV detections were due to HPIV type 3 (HPIV-3). HPIV-3 infections were detected all year round but peaked annually between March and June. HPIV-1 and HPIV-2 circulated at lower levels accounting for 20% and 8%, respectively, peaking during the last quarter of the year with a biennial cycle.

Around 2.7 million of these installed measures (97 per cent) were delivered through ECO. • During 2019, 221,800 measures were installed through ECO and GD, an increase of 5 per cent compared with 2018. • The Government set a target to upgrade the energy efficiency of around one million more homes over the five years to April 2020. As of December 2019, around 963,900 homes had at least one improvement measure installed. • The provisional estimated lifetime carbon savings of measures installed under ECO (including Affordable Warmth), Cashback, GDHIF and GD Plans was up to 50.5 MtCO2 by the end of December 2019, with provisional estimated lifetime energy savings up to 195,600 GWh. Of these an estimated 3.1 MtCO2 and 9,800 GWh are from measures installed in 2019. • The ECO Affordable Warmth obligation has installed around 1,109,100 measures up to the end of December 2019. These measures are estimated to have delivered £13.3bn worth of notional lifetime bill savings, of which £2.1bn were delivered in 2019. • At the end of 2019, 14.1 million properties had cavity wall insulation (70 per cent of properties with a cavity wall), 16.4 million had loft insulation (66 per cent of properties with a loft) and 764,000 had solid wall insulation (nine per cent of properties with solid walls).

    Child Road Safety in Great Britain, 2010-2014 Bhavin Makwana – March 2016 Summary This short report looks at child road casualties in Great Britain between 2010 and 2014. It looks at how children travel, the geographical distribution of child casualties and how the time of day, a child’s age, gender, travel mode and the socio-demographic background of the community impact on child road casualties. In 2014, there were 16,727 casualties aged 15 and under, of which 2,082 were fatal or serious. This accounted for almost 1 in 11 of all casualties and 1 in 12 deaths and serious injuries on the road. Until an increase in 2014, child casualties had fallen year-on-year since 1997 (DfT, 2014). There are large geographic and gender differences in the rate of child casualties – rates were highest in urban areas and there appears to be a north-south divide in England when analysing road casualty data; and boys were at higher risk of being hurt than girls throughout childhood and across all modes of transport. Cycling casualties were notably higher for boys than girls. When exposure was taken into account, there remained a higher risk for boys than girls when cycling on the road. Casualty numbers peaked for boys and girls at age 12, with pedestrian casualties highest for both genders between ages 11 and 12 – the ages at which children transition from primary to secondary schools, often gaining more independence and taking part in more unsupervised travel. The casualty numbers peaked in the hour before school begins and after school ends.
