God’s Story Our Story

Live Lent home groups this year will be via Zoom. If you would like to join please let the office know an email will be required to send you a link. It is NOT too late you are welcome to join through out Lent.

This year to care for the environment we will not be purchasing the booklets as there are so many other free resources. Such as a free app, daily emails can be subscribed to and the daily hope call line 08008048044. The theme is: God's story, our story. We hope this will be a way for us to join with each other across the Benefice using zoom. This is a great opportunity for anyone who hasn't been in a group before to try out the experience. In the groups we can learn together and encourage and support each other in our faith journey.

Hello! My name is Shirley and I have the privilege of working for a wonderful Christian charity called Safe Families in Swindon.

Facing life alone can be hard, can’t it? This last year of COVID- 19 has reminded us all of the importance of connection and community. When a family feels that they are isolated, that there is no one who can help them, it’s a scary place to be. Safe

Families exists to create relationship and connection because

everyone deserves to belong. At Safe Families we know there are people in the community who want to share God’s love and make a difference to others. But it can be difficult to know how to support isolated families in a safe and effective way.

That is why we have developed some ways that you can make a difference:

Since April 2019, we have supported over 90 families through our partnership with Swindon Borough Council.

One mum told us, ‘My volunteer was lovely and we ’ re still friends. I was at the worst point in my life, but now everything is completely different.’

The Church of England has partnered with Marie Curie on 23rd March 2021 to mark the first anniversary of the first lockdown in the UK with a national day of reflection to reflect on our collective loss due to Covid-19, support those who have been bereaved, and hope for a brighter future.

Our Bellringers will ring St Margaret’s Church bells to mark the end of the one minute silent reflection at 12 noon by tolling at

12:01.

There are other ways to get involved on the day detailed on the

Marie Curie website at https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/get- involved/day-of-reflection

Please find one of the colouring templates on the last page for

you to print out and colour. You can put it in your window to

show support. Other templates can be found on Marie Curie

At 8pm we'll hold a minute's silence and come together to light up the night. Stand outside with a light – a candle, a torch, even your phone - to remember someone who's died and show your

support to people going through a bereavement. Alternatively

Declaration of Interests councillors are reminded that they should declare any known interests in any matter to be considered. None declared. 3. Update on the current status of the parishing of Swindon and what the Borough parishes have committed to (KC). Kirsty Cole distributed a hard copy of the ‘Potential Transfer of Services to Parish Councils’ document to members. Kirsty Cole referred to the ‘Current Status’ slide on the presentation. 6 Parish Councils have taken on additional services to date (Bishopstone, Haydon Wick, Highworth, Nythe, Wanborough and Wroughton). 6 Parish Councils are currently in discussion with Kirsty Cole about the possibility of taking on additional services (Blunsdon St. Andrews, Chiseldon, Covingham, Liddington, South Marston and Stratton St Margaret) and 3 Parish Councils have not agreed to take on any additional services (Castle Eaton, Hannington and Stanton Fitzwarren). Kirsty explained the wider context of the potential transfer of services, namely that Swindon Borough Council is required to find £19m each and every year from now to 2020, at which point 80p in every pound of Council Tax will be spent on vulnerable residents.

    ID 2015: Swindon ward analysis St Margaret and South Marston ward Introduction The English Indices of Deprivation 2015 (ID 2015) have been produced by the government to aid the assessment of relative levels of deprivation across England. These update the indices previously presented in 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2010. The Indices provide scores and ranks for all 32,844 Lower Level Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in England for a combined Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD), seven domains of deprivation and two supplementary indices for income deprived children and older people. Each of these is based on a basket of indicators. The LSOAs are ranked with 1 being the most deprived and 32,844 being the least. In Swindon, the rankings go from 1 being the most deprived to 132 being the least deprived. For many analyses the LSOAs are categorised into deciles (10ths) or quintiles (5ths). LSOAs contain around 1,500 people and are standard geographical units created and used by the Government and Office for National Statistics (ONS). The LSOA boundaries do not form the basis of wards and often do not follow ward boundaries. For the purposes of analysing the ID 2015, each LSOA has been assigned to the ward containing the majority of the LSOA population (which is not always the same ward that contains the majority of the LSOA’s geographical area). Additionally, as Swindon has grown rapidly this has led to several new LSOAs being created which means that it is not always possible to compare ID 2015 data with previous indices of deprivation. Ward boundaries in Swindon were changed in 2011 and therefore no direct comparisons can be made with previous wards used in earlier Indices.
