The Morinville Rendez-Vous Centre is the venue for the clinics, which are put on with the assistance of the Morinville Lions Club and Knights of Columbus St. Anne Council. According to Canadian Blood Services, 687 units were collected in the eight Blood Drive clinics held in Morinville in 2014. The six events held in 2015 resulted in 512 units collected. The next Blood Drive is Feb. 2 at the Rendez-Vous Centre from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Canadian Blood Services say they need communities like Morinville to rally together because it takes many donors to help save a hospital patient. The donation can touch many lives. It requires up to eight donors a week to help someone with leukaemia, five donors to help someone undergoing cancer treatment, and 50 donors to help someone in a car crash. Surgeries require the donation of blood. Brain surgery (two donors), internal bleeding (two to eight donors), heart surgery (five donors), and two donors each for a hip replacement or undergoing a bone marrow transplant.     Alberta Provincial Electoral Divisions Spruce Grove-St. Albert Compiled from the 2011 Census of Canada and National Household Survey Introduction This report presents the statistical profile for the Provincial Electoral Division (PED) of Spruce Grove-St. Albert. This profile is based on the electoral boundaries as defined by the Alberta Electoral Divisions Act, Chapter E-4.2, 2010. A PED is a territorial unit represented by an elected Member to serve in the Alberta Provincial Legislative Assembly. Data in this report have been specially tabulated from Statistics Canada’s 2011 Census of Canada and the 2011 National Household Survey, by allocation of Statistics Canada block face reference points to PEDs. These data include the following characteristics: age, sex, marital status, household types, language, Aboriginal identity, ethnic origin, place of birth, mobility, dwelling characteristics, education, labour force activity and income. The global non-response rate (GNR) for the PED of Spruce Grove-St. Albert is 25.0%. The GNR combines both complete non-response (household) and partial non-response (question) into a single rate. The GNR is an indicator of data quality, where a smaller GNR suggests more accuracy. When the GNR is 50% or above, the data are suppressed. The GNR is identified for each region. A higher GNR indicates the need for user caution. Users are advised to refer to the endnotes of this PED profile for further information regarding data quality and definitions. As the seniors’ population increases, so will the role played by the community-based seniors-serving (CBSS) sector in supporting seniors. Seniors-serving organizations across the province provide a variety of non-medical services to improve physical and mental health, social support, personal well-being, social environment and engagement, physical environment, and safety and security of seniors. These organizations comprise the CBSS sector, and their services promote healthy aging by supporting seniors to remain independent and age in their chosen communities. Seniors' Community Profiles To assist with local-level planning by the CBSS sector and others, Seniors and Housing has developed a series of Seniors’ Community Profiles to report a range of demographic, economic, physical and mental health, and health care utilization indicators to better understand the current state of communities as they relate to Alberta’s seniors. The Seniors’ Community Profiles also contains a glossary of key terms and organizational and data resources for community organizations.

  • Climate Resilience Express Action Plan
    CITY OF SPRUCE GROVE CLIMATE RESILIENCE EXPRESS ACTION PLAN MARCH 2018 “A resilient community is one that has developed capacities to help absorb future shocks and stresses to its social, economic, and technical systems and infrastructures so as to still be able to maintain essentially the same functions, structures, systems, and identity.” [Working Definition, ResilientCity.org] This Climate Resilience Action Plan (Action Plan) has been produced through the Climate Resilience Express project with financial support from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, the Calgary Foundation, Natural Resources Canada, All One Sky Foundation, and Alberta Ecotrust. A key objective of the Climate Resilience Express project is to partner with communities across Alberta to complete a streamlined (“express”) process aimed at developing a community- specific climate resilience action plan through a one-day workshop, and to develop and maintain an ‘Action Kit’ to support other communities in working through the process. In 2016, six communities from across Alberta were selected to pilot the workshop process and aspects of the toolkit. In 2017, an additional seven communities participated in the project, including the City of Spruce Grovei. Summary The effects of climate change are already apparent in Spruce Grove, with observable changes in temperature, precipitation, and extreme weather events over the last century.
