Mid-Season Report
| AC Ajaccio Finishing the 2012/2013 season just two points clear of the Ligue 1’s infamous lanterne rouge, Ajaccio’s fortunes haven’t seen any drastic changes. The Corsican side has had a rough start to this season, and find themselves sitting rock bottom. Having chosen to replace head coach Fabrizio Ravanelli in an effort to change the tides, Ajaccio seem to be hanging off the edge of an abyss and finished the year with just one win to their name. With Mutu not living up to expectations in the latter part of 2013, Ajaccio’s winter transfer window will be crucial in determining whether they will still be in top-flight come next season. Top - Ronald Zubar In an otherwise dormant team, Ronald Zubar has been one of the few names whose efforts made a difference. Signing for free from Wolverhampton in January, the defender was tasked with bolstering Ajaccio’s backline. Despite Ajaccio’s false start to this Ligue 1 season, which included a terrible October, conceding 7 goals in 4 matches, his determination and courage on the pitch saw him named Ajaccio’s best player of that very month ahead of Ochoa. Zubar’s consistent performances could well make the difference between relegation and salvation. Flop - Adrian Mutu The Romanian’s arrival in Corsica more than a year ago was the promise of ambition and high expectations for Ajaccio. His first season was a modest success which saw him scoring 11 goals, probably saving Ajaccio from relegation in the process. This season, however, Mutu’s turbulent career took another twist. -
Ligue-1-2016 2017.Pdf
A Note from the Editor: For many, Ligue 1 cannot restart quickly enough following an almost perfect, but fundamentally cruel EURO 2016 for France on home soil. The pain suffered on that night in Paris by Didier Deschamps’s men and an entire nation remains all the more heartrending because of the newfound professionalism that Les Bleus conducted themselves with throughout the tournament. Karim Benzema antics aside, contrary to years of squad infighting, the team spirit inside the French camp was the strongest it had been since 2000. On the pitch, France proved that they are on the cusp of a new golden generation, with Samuel Umtiti, Kingsley Coman and Antoine Griezmann all shining. Although some of Les Bleus’ much touted young guns fell short of expectations, namely Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial, France’s U19 EURO win further confirms that the future is astonishingly bright for French football on the international scene. One would not be foolish to expect there to be some turnover of talent for the 2018 World Cup cycle, with Patrice Evra and others’ involvement coming to an end. Much like Les Bleus therefore, Ligue 1 too can expect a very different feel for the 2016/17 season. PSG have entered a new era after President Al Khelaifi’s obsession for progression in the Champions’ League failed to be adequately satisfied by Laurent Blanc, leading to the latter’s dismissal. Les Parisiens have appointed Unai Emery in Blanc’s place, who brings a new-age management approach that relies on a squad instead of a team of individuals, a charge often leveled at Blanc’s PSG. -

Ligue 1 2014/2015: Your Guide to the Season Ahead
Ligue 1 2014/2015: Your Guide to the Season Ahead Get French Football News A Note from the Editor: From Copacabana beach to the Stade Auguste Delaune: Ligue 1 kicks off again on the 8th of August when Reims host back-to-back champions Paris Saint Germain in the first encounter of the new season. The summer brought with it one of the most wholesome World Cups in recent history, where Ligue 1 stars both thrived and blossomed. Whether you were marveling at David Ospina or Guillermo Ochoa between the sticks, noting the potential of Serge Aurier or appreciating the sheer brilliance of James Rodriguez, it seemed that wherever one turned; the spirit of France’s top flight was being embodied by some of its most emblematic characters. While the majority of the aforementioned stars will undoubtedly move on this summer, Ligue 1 is not standing still. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is ready to lead PSG to Champions League glory, regardless of the supposed limitations that Financial Fair Play regulations have imposed on the Ligue 1 champions. The seasonal managerial merry-go-round has gone some way to reshuffling the pack and Willy Sagnol, Marcelo Bielsa, Hubert Fournier, Claude Makélélé, Leonardo Jardim and Jean Luc Vasseur have all been handed fresh starts at various outfits. A new campaign brings with it three new sides. Ligue 1 welcomes back an eclectic bunch of former stalwarts with open arms in Metz, Caen and Lens. The latter club had the last laugh during a summer that may well be remembered for the administrative headaches that the French football watchdog the DNCG were causing, initially refusing Antoine Kombouaré’s men entry into France’s top flight. -

Ligue 1 2015/2016: Your Guide to the Season Ahead
Ligue 1 2015/2016: Your Guide to the Season Ahead Get French Football News A Note from the Editor: Explosive: not a word commonly associated with French football’s top flight in the 21st century. However, the 2014/15 campaign lived up to the aforementioned tag in some style, with Alexandre Lacazette-led surprise package Olympique Lyonnais taking PSG to the final pair of matches for the Ligue 1 top spot, not to mention Marcelo Bielsa’s revolutionary attempts at a magnificent, but unsustainable title charge with Marseille which fell to pieces come the turn of the calendar year. The introduction of so many new faces sitting on the end of substitute benches (or in some cases on top of ice boxes) across France injected a certain amount of unpredictability into Ligue 1’s 2014/15 edition which saw the league make positive strides, at least with regards to the entertainment factor. Leonardo Jardim, Hubert Fournier, Ghislain Printant and Willy Sagnol, to name a few, have all, in very short spaces of time, revolutionized their respective clubs’ reputations, for better or for worse. With such a vast array of tactical approaches, 2014/15 was the season during which Ligue 1 truly became the most ferociously volatile division in Europe. SC Bastia and Guingamp felled PSG, Lyon were dismantled by Nice at home and Marseille were embarrassed by Lorient. The lack of pan-club consistency made for frustrating viewing for hardcore fans, but enthralled the neutrals. As if 10 months of action-packed league football was not enough, French football has a way of making headlines, even during the off season. -
