TURANDOT Cast Biographies Soprano Martina Serafin (Turandot) made her San Francisco Opera debut as the Marshallin in Der Rosenkavalier in 2007. Born in Vienna, she studied at the Vienna Conservatory and between 1995 and 2000 she was a member of the ensemble at Graz Opera. Guest appearances soon led her to the world´s premier opera stages, including at the Vienna State Opera where she has been a regular performer since 2005. Serafin´s repertoire includes the role of Lisa in Pique Dame, Sieglinde in Die Walküre, Elisabeth in Tannhäuser, the title role of Manon Lescaut, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Maddalena in Andrea Chénier, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. 1 FEBRUARY 2016 CAST AMENDMENT IL TRITTICO (Giacomo Puccini) 25, 29 Februry; 3, 5, 8 and 15 March at 6.30pm To her great disappointment, Austrian soprano Martina Serafin has been forced to withdraw from her role debut as Giorgetta in Il tabarro due to an injury suffered before Christmas. She has made good progress since the accident, but unfortunately she is still not adequately mobile to undertake this role for The Royal Opera. The role of Giorgetta will now be sung by American soprano Patricia Racette . Patricia Racette made her Royal Opera debut in 1996 as Mimì ( La bohème ). She has previously sung the role of Giorgetta for Theater an der Wien, and will perform the role in Rome in April 2016. Her other recent engagements include Nedda ( Pagliacci ) for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, Katerina Ismailova ( Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk ) for English National Opera and Elle ( La Voix humaine ) for Chicago Opera Theater. Santa Fe Opera with Kimberlea Daggy! August 13 – 18, 2009 Limited to 25 participants Join Classical KUSC 91.5’s popular afternoon host, Kimberlea Daggy, for a magical opera tour to Santa Fe. We will attend three performances at the Opera, featuring the great French soprano, Natalie Dessay, in her first La Traviata, Met star Christine Brewer singing the title role in Gluck’s Alceste, and Mozart’s most perfect work, Don Giovanni, in Santa Fe’s glorious, partially outdoor, setting. Nestled 7000 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Rockies, Santa Fe is one of America’s oldest cities, and boasts a long history and rich cultural heritage. Founded as a capital city in 1607 by Spanish explorers, it has been claimed by the Pueblo Peoples, the Spanish Crown, Mexico and the Confederacy. Today it is a sophisticated city, famous for its diverse cultures, museums and galleries, outstanding cuisine, and the Santa Fe Opera. During the day we will make excursions outside Santa Fe to explore Native American and Spanish sites rich in history such as an ancient and modern pueblo, artisan workshops, museums and galleries. We will also have a Georgia O’Keeffe day with visits to her home in Abiquiu and the country she painted. I’m going to bring you into the secret world - not accessible to the general public...The North Stage Door! Welcome to San Francisco Opera's new podcast! I'm your host, Chris Largent and I'm delighted to sweep you into this massive hive of creativity, stagecraft and performance at one of opera’s most exciting companies. Along the way, we’ll meet singers, directors, designers -- and some surprise guests; like Pixar’s Chief Creative Officer and Academy Award Winning Director Pete Docter, and internationally acclaimed opera star Patricia Racette. In normal times, walking around backstage, there would be a flurry of activity. But, it's not really happening like that this year...our stage has been dark. Our season? Canceled. Carmen opens on Saturday, March 30, 2019 for four performances at the Civic Theatre. Additional performances are April 2, 5, and 7 (matinee), 2019. Bringing her signature role to San Diego Opera for her house debut is mezzo-soprano Ginger Costa-Jackson. The Los Angeles Times’ critic Mark Swed noted “Ginger Costa-Jackson, an exceptional young Sicilian American mezzo-soprano, brought a dangerous, animalistic vibrancy to the title role. There is a lusty yet somber quality to her strikingly dark mezzo, the ideal voice for Carmen.” She is joined by tenor Robert Watson, also in a Company debut, as Don José. Also in Company debuts are soprano Sarah Tucker as Micaëla and baritone Scott Conner as Escamillo. I now am writing the President formally that I shall assume retirement status pursuant to 28 U.S.C. §371(b), as of the date the Court "rises" for the summer or as of the date of the qualification of my successor, whichever is later, but, in any event, not subsequent to September 25, 1994. It has been a special experience to be on the Federal Bench for over 34 years and on this Court for 24 Terms.
