  • Rushing Fall Nips Mean Mary to Give Brown Fifth Straight
MONDAY, AUGUST 24, 2020 RUSHING FALL NIPS MEAN NO MORE DOUBTS, MAXIMUM SECURITY IS BACK MARY TO GIVE BROWN The Week in Review, by Bill Finley When Maximum Security (New Year=s Day) had to fight his FIFTH STRAIGHT DIANA way to a narrow victory in the GII San Diego H., it was fair to question whether or not this was the same horse that had been so outstanding throughout his career for trainer Jason Servis. Yes, he won that day, but the dominance and brilliance he had shown on so many occasions for a trainer who was subsequently indicted for allegedly doping his horses was not there. Then again, it seemed unwise to write him off after one race. His trip in the San Diego was not ideal as he broke on top, led and then was taken back off the pace to avoid a speed duel before coming on again in the stretch to narrowly prevail. It was also his first race in five months and trainer Bob Baffert said after the fact that he only had the horse 80% cranked. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2020 OP/ED: PLEASE DO WHAT 21-DAY VET'S LIST STINT RECOMMENDED FOR CLENBUTEROL IN KY IS RIGHT FOR THE by T. D. Thornton The Kentucky Equine Drug Research Council (EDRC), which RACEHORSE serves as an advisory board to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC), advanced a Dec. 1 recommendation to that full board that would require any horse who receives clenbuterol to be restricted via the veterinarian's list for 21 days and then test clear of that substance prior to being removed from the list and allowed to compete. Kentucky's current clenbuterol regulation requires a prescription that must be filed with the KHRC within 24 hours of dispensing the drug and a withdrawal time of 14 days, according to Bruce Howard, DVM, who serves as the equine medical director for the KHRC. U S Navy Flag U S Navy Flag has a powerful pedigree. His sire War Front’s ability to upgrade his mares has transformed him into one of Kentucky’s highest-priced stallions. His dam Misty For Me was good enough to win four Gr.1 races and is proving equally talented as a broodmare. Her three Group/Graded winners also include U S Navy Flag’s sister, the triple Gr.1 winner Roly Poly. U S Navy Flag displayed similar talent and toughness. He proved highly progressive during his Juvenile campaign which saw him win the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes and, only two weeks later, the Gr.1 Dewhurst Stakes by two and a half lengths. Although second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, U S Navy Flag showed his true worth when dropped back to 6f. in the Gr.1 July Cup winning by nearly two lengths. Mares by sons of DANEHILL create 3x4 to Danzig, this opens the door to mares by his many sire sons. There’s plenty of scope for mares by grandsons of DANEHILL, such as ZOFFANY, CHOISIR and MASTERCRAFTSMAN. Mares by sons of GREEN DESERT also create only 3x4 to Danzig. He could prove ideal as a means of inJecting speed into mares by SEA THE STARS, which create 4x3 to Urban Sea. U S Navy Flag looks sure to be suited by mares by PIVOTAL and his sons, including SIYOUNI and KYLLACHY. Another War Front son sired classic winner Olmedo from a PIVOTAL mare. War Front has three Gr.1 winners out of SADLER’S WELLS mares, including the Preakness S.
