RUSHING FALL NIPS MEAN NO MORE DOUBTS, MAXIMUM SECURITY IS BACK MARY TO GIVE BROWN The Week in Review, by Bill Finley When Maximum Security (New Year=s Day) had to fight his FIFTH STRAIGHT DIANA way to a narrow victory in the GII San Diego H., it was fair to question whether or not this was the same horse that had been so outstanding throughout his career for trainer Jason Servis. Yes, he won that day, but the dominance and brilliance he had shown on so many occasions for a trainer who was subsequently indicted for allegedly doping his horses was not there. Then again, it seemed unwise to write him off after one race. His trip in the San Diego was not ideal as he broke on top, led and then was taken back off the pace to avoid a speed duel before coming on again in the stretch to narrowly prevail. It was also his first race in five months and trainer Bob Baffert said after the fact that he only had the horse 80% cranked. Cont. p6 IN TDN EUROPE TODAY

Rushing Fall Gives Brown Fifth Straight Diana cont. from p1 Allowing her main rival to go on with it heading into the clubhouse turn under Javier Castellano, the multimillionaire traveled in a clear second up the backstretch behind modest fractions of :23.60 and :48.38. Moving up to the leader=s flank as the quintet bunched up through three-quarters in 1:11.90, she drew on even terms nearing the lane and the top pair sped away from the other three soon after straightening for home. Sticking her nose in front for the first time at the sixteenth pole, Rushing Fall narrowly did the better work from there and struck the wire a neck to the good, securing her 11th success in 14 career trips to the post. It was 2 1/2 lengths back to Sistercharlie in third.

AShe knows how to win. She's a remarkable horse,@ Brown said. AThis is a horse that has won Grade Is in four straight years. This is very rare company to do this. She's a horse of a lifetime for anybody--for an owner, for a trainer, for racing. We're very fortunate that [e Five=s] Bob Edwards put her back in training. Her last race of the year last year was not good, she's worth a lot of money and they could easily have sold her and bred her. They gave her the time off and we sent her down to Stonestreet in Ocala like we do every where they do a fantastic job and then my team got a hold of her and took it from there. They executed like they always have, and the filly really came through. She's special.@ The final running time of 1:45.88 represented the third-fastest clocking in the 82-year history of the Diana, behind Hard Not to Like (Hard Spun)=s 1:45.22 in 2015 and Hall of Famer Waya (Fr) (Faraway Son)=s 1:45.40 in 1978. AThe plan was to go to the lead,@ Castellano said. She doesn't have to be on the lead, she can come from behind also, but I didn't see much other speed in the race, so we tracked the other filly every single step of the way and when I asked her, she responded. She knows how to win. I'm so lucky to ride her because she's one of the best fillies I've rode in my life.@ AIt means a lot,@ Brown added of his fifth straight Diana win. Perhaps the problems are worse on the turf, but they have also been cropping up in dirt races and it=s hard to believe that the problems have been limited to Aug. 1 and 2. For the most part, Equibase has been reluctant to admit that there are any serious problems when it comes to the Gmax system, which relies on GPS technology. But there=s more than enough evidence out there to conclude that Gmax has plenty of bugs and, in its current state, is an inferior way of timing races when compared to the teletimer system. Equibase should not be satisfied with a system that gets it right most of time.

Dirt races at Del Mar are being timed using the Gmax system allegations that he was acting as a front for trainer Marcus Benoit Photo Vitali. Equibase argues that Gmax is more than a timing system, that NYRA got ahead of the story and released a statement that it can provide ample benefits for the industry, everything from explained why Potts was allowed to race there. CAMPANELLE DOMINATES NEW TATTERSALLS FIXTURE GETS UNDERWAY MORNY TEST There's nothing very familiar about this year, and in an ever-changing sales schedule, a new auction takes place this week at Tattersalls. The mixed August Sale was originally intended to take place over two days but, such was the demand for places, it has been extended to three, starting on Monday at Park Paddocks. That a sale consisting largely of horses in training has attracted such a large entry so soon after the traditional Tattersalls July Sale is not necessarily a positive sign for British racing. But while some owners are clearly eager to move horses on, the sale was welcomed in some quarters for the fact that it takes place before the start of the yearling sales, thus giving people a chance to reinvest, and we must all hope that is indeed what happens. Campanelle was comfortable in front for the most part, but a battle looked in store when rivals stacked up in behind as she came under pressure approaching the final furlong. However, any concerns about stretching out to six on softened ground were quickly dismissed as she found more than enough under =s urgings inside the final furlong to comfortably hold the vain bids of G2 Coventry S. victor Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) and Rhythm Master (Ire) ( {Ire}) by two lengths and a neck, respectively, and remain undefeated. AThe ground is bad, but she has a lot of class and overcame that,@ said Dettori. AShe is much better on good ground and she is the best we had seen at Royal Ascot. She travelled nicely, pricked her ears and was relaxed throughout the race. G1 Darley Prix Morny Cont. from p1 AShe=s a big filly, but with a lot of speed as well and we saw that right from the start when we started training her down in Florida,@ said trainer Wesley Ward after securing a third renewal of the contest. AWhat really impressed me was that she went to [Royal] Ascot off a very short rest before she won the Queen Mary. My horses usually get a chance to acclimatise to the cooler weather over there and have good spacing between their races. Everything came close together for her and she still won. ANow that she=s had the time, I=ve really started to see her blossom at home. We had good spacing from Ascot to the Morny and she=s grown as well as really thriving on the travel. She goes from A to B and when she gets to B she just picks right up. We=re very lucky to have a filly like her, with that long stride she has, and she=s a lot bigger horse than [previous Morny winners] (Scat Daddy) or (Scat Daddy), who were real sprinting types.@ Added Ward, AThe G1 Cheveley Park [S. on Sept. 26] closes on Tuesday and I=ve spoken with Adrian Beaumont [of the International Racing Bureau], so we=ll nominate for that to keep her options open. With a filly like this, it suits to space her races out. We had Hootenanny (Quality Road) finish second in this race and he went on to win the Breeders= Cup Juvenile Turf. That would probably be more on the agenda, especially as the Breeders= Cup is on her home track at Keeneland. I think a two- turn mile will suit.@ Christophe Soumillon, rider of runner-up Nando Parrado (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), was never at ease with his mount and explained, AHe never travelled comfortably and was shying away from the [stands= side] rail and hanging right the most of the race. I never had him straightened out in front of me, which is sad because if he had done so I feel we would have won.@ Cont. p3

AUDARYA SURPRISES IN THE ROMANET There was a surprise in store in Sunday=s G1 Darley Prix Jean Romanet as the James Fanshawe-trained Audarya (Fr) ( {GB}) took a significant jump in class to provide her trainer with a third renewal of this 10-furlong Deauville feature since 2014. Coming off a Newcastle handicap win over this trip Aug. 2, the 48-1 shot tracked the pace travelling easily and when committed by Ioritz Mendizabal grabbed the advantage before the furlong pole. Challenged by Ambition (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) all the way to the line, the bay, who sports the silks of Alison Swinburn, held her at bay to score by a neck, with four lengths back to Romanciere (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) in third. AI thought I was riding for a place, but this is a nice bonus,@ Mendizabal admitted. AThe trainer asked me to get a good position, but more importantly to get her to relax. She wasn=t supposed to like the ground, but she was very comfortable and travelled very well on it. I=m not sure how she won like that and it=s a nice story that Francois Doumen bred her, as I know him very well.@ Having saddled Ribbons (GB) (Manduro {Ger}) to win this six years ago and Speedy Boarding (GB) () to follow up two years later, it is safe to say that the Newmarket-based handler has previous form where this race is concerned but it took a leap of the imagination to suggest that Audarya could add to his tally. No great shakes at three, she took four starts to With that performance confirming her stamina, Audarya was break her maiden and when she did it came at lowly Redcar in placed prominently as Bolleville (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) cut out the June before winning a mile Goodwood handicap and finishing fractions with Romanciere acting as her lead. With the latter left runner-up in the Listed Prix Coronation at Saint-Cloud in two of in front upon straightening for home, she had the ideal target her remaining outings last term. and quickly took her measure dragging Ambition with her Returning to finish an encouraging eighth behind this race=s 7- approaching the furlong marker. Things get more interesting under the fourth dam Jimka (Fr) (Jim French), whose son Jim and Tonic (Fr) (Double Bed {Fr}) proved one of the Doumens= finest flat performers when taking the G1 Hong Kong Cup, G2 Dubai Duty Free and G2 Hong Kong International Bowl as well as a clutch of Group 3 contests in his native France.
