Back in the days before the Galleria, he would take me to the lobby of the Seelbach Hotel so that we could observe the guests in their comings and goings. Perhaps from those “I know there are many reasons for your support, but I experiences, I love to be in our own “lobby” have come to believe that deep down, beneath it all, you give here at Mercy before and after school. because of your faith.” Mike Johnson Each day, our guests are greeted by the statue of Mother McAuley, modeled after the statue in front of her House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland. Mother McAuley is ministering to a young woman, a servant girl in Dublin. I don’t know how often she is noticed, but for me she is a constant reminder of the Mercy hospitality that we hope to extend to all, no matter their need or station in life. When we extend this hospitality in the example of Mother McAuley, we do so because of your continued prayers and support. We may be the hands, the ears, or the voice, but you, our loyal donors, are the body. I know there are many reasons for your support, but I have come to believe that deep down, beneath it all, you give because of your faith. We want you to know that you are always with us, and that you are a part of the growth and success of each and every student. I will continue to think of you each morning as our students pass through the lobby to begin their day and Mother McAuley stands watch from the atrium. As always, we keep you in our prayers, and ask that you do the same for our Mercy girls. Look Inside The sheer diversity among Mercy students, from up-and-coming artists to volleyball phenoms, from aspiring mathematicians to young entrepreneurs, is a God-sent reminder that every student has something unique to give the world if they can just find the confidence to look inside themselves and seize it – and at Mercy, you can, and you will. Achieve Beyond Your Expectations Supported by a modern curriculum, expert faculty, and new campus facilities, Mercy students acquire the fundamental knowledge, Christian values and grounded sense of self to achieve beyond their own expectations, positioning themselves for success and fulfillment in college and life. Do More with What You Learn Mercy challenges students to apply newfound knowledge to real world situations – like analyzing how compounds discussed in Chemistry can hasten clean-up of an oil spill, or how low-income housing systems researched in Service Learning can be redesigned to more effectively meet the needs of families – reinforcing to every Mercy woman that their knowledge can only make a difference if they apply it. Experience a College-like Environment Mercy maintains small class sizes so that each young woman has the opportunity to build mutually respectful relationships with both faculty and fellow students, ultimately leading to a college-like classroom environment of camaraderie and independent thinking. Take Us with You More than a place on a map, a virtual sisterhood, or even a second family, Mercy Academy is a feeling, one that takes hold freshman year and then remains with a young woman forever, a silent affirmation of their innate potential, true goodness and sturdy resiliency, no matter how high the obstacle in front of them or how many miles from home they might find themselves one day. 5 There are many ways to support Mercy Academy.
