With its spectacular panoramic views as far as the eye can see, the “Old Barn” acts as a natural ter- race overlooking the upper Arno valley. You can see the slopes of the Chianti mountains to the southwest; the city of Arezzo to the southeast (on a clear day); the Pratomagno mountains to the east (which separate the Valdarno valley from the Casentino valley); and the slopes of the Tosco-Emiliano Apennine mountain chain to the north. The Tipertoli homestead is surrounded by olive trees, cypress tress, as well as oak and chestnut tree forests. It is located in the open countryside and offers a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere to the person who truly wishes to find the mil- lenarian symbiosis that joins man with nature. Moreoever, the “Old Barn: is also the perfect point of departure to easily reach the artistic, historical, and natural places of Tuscany and neighboring regions, allowing excursions by car, motorcycle, and bicycle. We are in fact in the middle of a triangle where on each summit, you will find one of the three most famous cities for art: Florence , Siena , and Arezzo (check a map for exact distances). The three cities are all easily accessible via public transportation (train or bus) or private transportation. Additionally,the Chianti region with its characteristic villages and world renowned wine is very close by. The nearest village is Figline Valdarno , approximately 4 km away. Aside from its characteristic and important historical center, you can also find all the ser- vices that can be necessary for a perfect stay: supermarkets, banks, pharmacies and all sorts of shops, open sometimes also on Sundays and evenings. Tuesdays, from 7 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., a typical weekly market takes place on Marsilio Ficino square – central square. The area does not lack medical facilities either. In Figline Valdarno, there is a hospital with emergency room and an outpatient clinic with medical specialists. Yet, it still maintains and respects the original architectural structure. The interior, with its wide spaces, are distributed on two floors: ground floor you find a hall with double divan bed; a double bedroom with direct access to the garden; a small bath with shower; and a large kitchen with independent entrance and fully equipped oven, fridge and dishwasher first floor has two double rooms (one with a double bed and the other with two single beds that can easily become a double); and a large bathroom with show- er. It sleeps up to 8 people and the apartment is, there- fore, suitable for large families and large groups. Outdoor tables and chairs are available so one can enjoy the spectacular views in a shady area. The external spaces are to exclusive use of the guests. Deposit —Upon your arrival, a safety deposit will be required in the amount of € 150,00, in order to cover possible damages. At the time of departure, the property will be in- spected and if no damages are found, the deposit will be returned in full. Driving directions Exit the motorway A1 (E35) at INCISA-REGGELLO, turn left direction Figline Valdarno, keep straight on to the RegionalRoad n. 69 (SR69) until you reach the beginning of the village of Figline Valdarno and turn right following the signs for Siena—Greve in Chianti. Follow the provincial road n. 16, after approximately 500 meters (and after having past the local cemetery) turn right to San Martino Altoreggi, the place where the Podere Tipertoli is situated (green arrow on the enclosed map). Keep driving on the municipal road for approximately 2,5 km. until you reach the intersec- tion. Cross the road and proceed straight ahead on the road that, initially asphalted, be- comes a country road slightly up the hill. Past the crossroad for Saint Martino (after approximately the 700 meters from the last intersection) the road becomes flat and, after few meters you will see the access to the private road that leads to the Tipertoli homestead. Please note The closest airport is the Florence International Airport, approximately 60km from Figline Valdarno (all on the highway - approximately 50 minutes drive with regular traffic). Alternatively, the other internation- al airport is the Airport Galileo Galilei of Pisa, approximately 120 km from Figline Valdarno (all highway - approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes drive with regular traffic). Please treat our Home as your Home Article published by the Magazine Italy - June 2005 ‘Cabbiavoli Castle - a Tuscan paradise’ by Adam Butler Situated prominently on a Tuscan hilltop amidst the rolling, vine and olive tree strewn hills around the town of Castelfiorentino lies the astonishingly beautiful Cabbiavoli Castle. This typically grand, Florentine-style residential complex comprises of a main building with a Baroque-façade where the living quarters are located, flanked by a tall medieval brick tower on one side and a little chapel dating to the 13th century on the other. Originally built in 1210 by a certain Count Alberti di Certaldo who was chief of the ruling Longobard family that dominated the nearby Elsa valley, the castle of Cabbiavoli was originally a fortified “borgo” of the Alberti family and in fact it still retained its farm and granary until the renovations in the late 1940s. The only parts remaining of the original fortified castle and the adjacent buildings are the surrounding defensive walls and the tower. This brick tower still stands proudly today (albeit slightly leaning) and, flanked by a huge ancient pine tree, offers dramatic views of the undulating, fertile countryside below, as far as the towered town of San Gimignano which is just visible on the horizon to the south. The Alberti family owned and lived in the castle until the 17th century, after which it fell into the hands of the patrician Brandini family. In 1900 Alice Brandini married Cesare Puccioni, son of a local entrepreneur Luigi who by 1888 had founded a chemicals factory just north of the town of Castelfiorentino.

    Villa Petra Le Convertoie Greve, Chianti Florence, Italy The Chianti Classico Area The Consortium of Chianti Classico The League of Chianti was a military and political organization founded in 1384 that administered the Chianti territory and defended its southern borders from attack on behalf of the Republic. It seems that the brand’s origins are linked to the ancient rivalry between Florence and Siena. Legend has it that the two cities decided to hold a contest between two knights to put an end to their notorious rivalry. The knights had to arrive to a chosen destination before their opponent did the following morning, both starting from their respective cities at the first call of the rooster. The Sienese chose a white rooster while the Florentines chose a black one. The white rooster was overfed the night before, while the Florentines gave the black rooster little to eat. On race day, the hungry black rooster began to sing long before the white one allowing the Florentine knight to start with an advance, winning over Siena! In 1924, a group of 33 wine producers gather in Radda in Chianti and gave birth to the first Association for the defense of Chianti wine. The 33 members chose the Gallo Nero—black rooster— as their symbol, which is the historical symbol of the Military League of Chianti. History The mild climate, lush vegetation and fertile soil of the Chianti region has proven to be a prime choice inhabited since the 2nd millennium BC. The Etruscans were the first to modify the Chianti landscape by herding cattle to cultivating the terrain with many crops including grapes for the wine that would one day be famous around the world.
