Last season, UMC was 0-27 overall and 0-18 in the NSIC, but the Golden Eagles have improved dramatically under Roysland in his second season entering this weekend's play with a 5-13 overall mark and 1-8 NSIC record. Before UMC, Roysland was a very successful high school coach in northwest Minnesota. He coached girls volleyball for 15 years at Win-E-Mac and fi nished with a record of 364-51. Roys- land was also head boys basketball coach for a combined 27 years at Win-E-Mac and Fosston, recording a 360-237 record.

WAYNE STATE VS. MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON SERIES HISTORY: Wayne State has won the last six meetings between the two schools and holds a 13-5 lead in the all-time series that started in the 1999-2000 season. The Wildcats recorded a 86-69 win in Crookston on November 30th in the fi rst matchup this season between the two clubs. WSC won both meetings last season, 79- 47 in Wayne and 84-44 in Crookston. The last win for UMC in the series came on Feb. 12, 2005 when the Golden Eagles defeated WSC 73-65 in Crookston. Crookston's last win in Wayne was on Feb. 20, 2004 when UMC edged WSC 67-64 during the 2003-04 season.

THE FIRST MEETING VS. MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON: Wayne State built a 47-19 halftime lead enroute to a 89-69 win over Minnesota, Crookston on November 30th in Crookston. The Wildcats shot 55 percent (11 of 20) from the three point line in the win. Senior guard Andrea Schoepf connected on 5 of 5 from the three point line and scored 17 points to lead WSC in the win. Laquisha Cook added 15 points and Kylee McGill had 14 for WSC. The 'Cats shot 30 of 63 from the fi eld (47.6%) and 18 of 22 (81.8%) from the free throw line. Jamie Zelinsky led Minnesota, Crookston with 18 points followed by Katie Cheline with 10. The Golden Eagles shot 23 of 64 from the fl oor (35.9%). WSC won the rebounding battle 46-35 thanks to seven boards each from McGill and Jodie Boss.
