LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is facing an emergency need for all blood types and is urging the community to donate blood. Recent winter storms and holidays have taken a toll on the area's blood supply, LifeSouth officials said. Blood donors are needed now to ensure patients in local hospitals have the blood needed to fight illnesses and survive. First-time donors are always welcome and encouraged to give blood donation a try. All blood types are needed, especially Type O-negative, which can be used by all patients in an emergency. Platelet donations are also critically needed. All donors will receive a thank you gift and mini-physical, including blood pressure, temperature, iron level and cholesterol screen. Donors must be at least 17 years old or 16 with parental permission, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. A photo ID is required. LifeSouth’s donor center in Lake City is located at 833 SW State Road 47. LifeSouth’s bloodmobiles will also be out at many locations in coming days. Naegler returns to Lake City Medical Center GLAD TO BE BACK to take on chief executive officer position. From staff reports Lake City Medical Center, an affiliate of HCA North Florida, has named Rick Naegler as CEO. Naegler began his new role with the 91-bed acute care hospital on Jan. 1. Naegler is returning to LCMC after serving as chief nursing officer at the hospital from 2012–2014. He brings nearly two decades of leadership experience in health care to LCMC, including several roles with HCA hospitals. He previously served as chief operating officer and interim CEO at St. Mary’s Medical Center and Palm Beach Children’s Hospital in West Palm Beach. Before that, Naegler was chief nursing officer for Shared Services at Tenet Health in Dallas, Texas; chief nursing officer at HCA’s Osceola Naegler Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee; and assistant chief nursing officer at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee. “I am excited and honored to join the team at Lake City Medical Center because of its reputation and history of providing great service to this community.
