FREE RANGE CAMPING GUIDE A CAREFREE SPACE WHERE KIDS CAN BE KIDS and YOU can be YOU whether you are THREE or SIXTY THREE CALL 07813 320870 0R 07912 608519 WWW.PETRUTHPADDOCKS.CO.UK 1 A very warm welcome to Petruth Paddocks! We do hope that you had a safe journey without too many hold-ups and that our directions were easy to follow? You’re probably in need of a rest so once you’re set up with a drink in your hand, put your feet up and take a little time to read on. A little background: Petruth Paddocks was named after Jules’s parents - Peter and Ruth and we opened the livery yard you can see as you enter the gate in early 2002 Some of you may well have stayed at Church Farm many years ago – well it was Roger Durston (who used to own Church farm) who suggested that our field would be an ideal location for people to stay and in 2003 we welcomed our first guests. Since then Petruth Paddocks has become the alternative venue for those seeking freedom from unnecessary regulations – a place where you, your friends and family can enjoy whatever outdoor life means to you – whatever your age, whoever you are, we simply ask that you respect those around you – why not say hello and understand what outdoor life means to them? We’re always looking for ways to improve the Paddocks without losing the “festival feel” of the place so let us know of any suggestions you may have for improvements that would add to your enjoyment. If you have any issues with other people staying on the site, please press the bell on our Reception door or call Steve on 07912 608519 or Jules on 07813 320870 – We’re here to take care of these things 24/7 – you’re here to enjoy yourselves! 2 Stuff on site – Where, what, how 4. We live here and it’s easy to forget that you probably have some basic questions so here’s our attempt at providing some answers. 1. Stuff on site Where do we pitch? We’ll explain this to you when you arrive – we’re pretty relaxed about where you go – just bear the following in mind: • Some grass-pitches have power- hook-ups – please don’t pitch here unless you have pre-booked a hook-up. • There are bright red Fire-points and orange posts with taps on around the fields – please do not pitch directly in front of these! • There is a grass roadway marked by red lines. Please don’t pitch or park on it. • For obvious reasons we tend to pitch the large groups and parties furthest away so best decide now who you’d prefer as neighbours! • Once pitched, if you’re in a camper and decide to go out for a drive, we can’t guarantee you’ll have the same pitch when you return so please ask us for some cones to mark your pitch if we are busy! Can we light a fire? Yes - in fact we can’t understand how you can camp without one! Around 5.30 onwards you’ll hear the put-put of a quad- bike dragging a trailer full of wood (and often children!) around the campsite dropping off fire drums, kindling, logs, paper and firelighters which we supply for a small charge. Charges are as follows and are paid in cash when we deliver: £2.00 per night fire drum hire (paid for X your stay on your first night) £8.00 gets you your first fire – logs, kindling, paper and a fire-lighter £5.00 for additional sacks of logs £2.00 for additional kindling Marshmallows & sticks are also available from reception. Please don’t burn your own wood as we graze animals on the land and need to know what’s being burnt. 4 Please take care – especially if small children are nearby. Familiarise yourself with your nearest Fire-Point. We will supply you with your fire-drum – please don’t burn on the grass and please site your drum at least 5 metres from any tents. We recommend you have a container of water nearby just in case of emergency and that you use it to put out your fire before you go to bed. We collect the drums so don’t worry about emptying them. If you use a disposable barbecue it MUST be off the ground, just ask for slabs at Reception. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES WHATSOVER take it inside your tent – people die every year not realising the fact that these units emit carbon monoxide gas. Once used, please empty the contents into your fire drum and pop the tray into the correct recycling bin. How do we deal with a fire-emergency? Whilst we’re on the topic of fires – should you believe there to be an emergency please use an extinguisher from one of the Fire-Points to deal with the problem and have someone sound the alarm-bell if you feel others may be in danger. Our Assembly point is the grass area behind the car park and Reception. In case of a major emergency, please make your way there. Any incident MUST be reported to reception and recorded in our Accident book. I need medical attention! If you’ve hurt yourself in any way we’re here to help you. We have a fully stocked first aid kit, trained first aiders and will do our best to provide you with basic first aid supplies. Please report all accidents to reception as we need to keep a record. Where is the nearest drinking water? There are taps all around the fields on orange posts and the water is fine for drinking. You might want to run the tap for a little while first though and please let us know of any leaks! How about washing up? You can find our washing up points at either end of the toilets/showers. Please go careful on the volume of hot water and leave the sinks as you’d like to find them and no – you can’t bath the dog in them! 5 Toilets These are really for anyone who does not have their own facilities. Our disposal system can’t cope with huge numbers and we provide a separate chemical waste disposal tank for those with their own units which is sited just opposite the shower blocks. We clean the toilets 2-6 times a day depending upon how many folk are staying. Please let us know if you feel they need an additional clean or if loo paper or soap have run out and we’ve not spotted. Please only flush toilet paper away as our system can’t process anything more substantial – we provide bins for other stuff. Showers Our showers each have individual compartments with room to change and hang clothes so use the first one you find empty. If you are an early riser you might have to wait a short while for the heat to come through but you should have a powerful jet and good heat so if you’re not getting that please let us know. On busy weekends you’re best showering before 7 or after 11! Washing/shaving Those cool green sinks located between the toilets and showers are where you wash, shave and brush your teeth – please don’t use them to wash up utensils – thanks! Like the toilets – we clean them regularly and simply need to know if you find them either damaged, faulty or not clean. How do I get connected? Wi-Fi Connection is free! Just select Petruth Guest and enter the password: Pguest2016. You are now online! Please don’t download massive files as we have a limit on usage. 6 Please do upload pictures of your stay to our Facebook page- Petruth Paddocks Camping and if you’d like to leave us a review here’s where you can – thank you! Where can we leave our rubbish? Please separate your waste from the start of your stay – otherwise we’ll be asking you to do it upon departure and that’s very yucky and not a great way to end your stay! Our waste point is to the left of the toilet/shower area and the bins are all clearly marked. If you need additional sacks please just ask one of us at reception. The split works like this: Tins, cans and plastic bottles Card and paper Glass Food The rest 7 Can we let our dog off in the fields? So long as your dog is friendly towards people and other animals, you are next to them and scoop their poop, you are welcome to let them off. Please be aware that whilst the fields are surrounded by a rhyne (a ditch), the fencing is not dog proof and sheep are sometimes in the adjacent field. Please put your doggy’s doings in bags and place them in the bins marked for dog-waste. What about my ice-blocks? You can re-freeze your blocks in our information tent. Please mark them first. We might ask you to restrict numbers if we are really busy! Where can I charge my device? There’s a charging locker in the information tent – the security of your phone rests with you though! 2.
