Loh Soon Choy is a faith giant in many sense of the word, having served the Malaysian church for over 40 years in various positions as a pastor and dean of a seminary, as well as a volunteer in para-church organisations. However, he prefers the term “mini-giant”, stating simply, “What are my achievements in life after all? They’re moderate.” Born to immigrant parents as the 13th child in a line of 16, Rev. Loh’s parents had humble ambitions for their children that revolved around a good education. This was no surprise as his parents came from a poor farming background. Though they were interested in the great Chinese classics and Confucius teachings, they were mostly self-taught. Despite criticisms from their neighbours, Rev. Loh’s parents chose for him the less popular path of an English education. He excelled in school and was the typical all-rounded A-plus student who did well in the classroom, on the sports field and extra-curricular activities. In 1956, he finished school with several awards under his belt and a Penang State Scholarship to study in the then University of Malaya in Singapore. Rev. Loh spent his early working years teaching at the Methodist Boys’ School in Penang. “I was offered an opportunity to train in England to be a teacher but turned it down to be near my aging widower father and non-Christian family.” For 15 years, Rev. Loh saw the Lord honour his sacrifice as one by one, his father and other family members became Christians. The mural, one of the largest to be found in Subang, which was illustrated by acclaimed British artist Gabriel Pitcher took over 15 days to be completed. Under the theme, “Change”, the mural depicts a young lady looking at her reflection which represents both her older and newer self. In the illustration, the newer self is depicted as facing the mirror reflection and is represented by more vibrant colours. These pronounced colours signify her transformed self as she continues to improve herself. Meanwhile, the older self which is portrayed to have her back facing the spectator is represented by lighter, desaturated colours. “2019 is a year of change for us. For the last two months, we have been hit very hard by the pandemic and there seems to be no near end in sight. The Emergency proclamation in January, ostensibly to fight COVID-19 has now been proven to be a complete political sham. Malaysia is the only country in the world where after Emergency has been declared (together with the suspension of Parliament), the pandemic situation has actually worsened instead of improving. This inability to contain the pandemic is the result of an incompetent and anti-democratic government that is weak in leadership and poor in policy planning. I get no joy in criticising the PN government but it is now as clear as day that without the checks and balances provided by parliament, their incompetency will only grow to the detriment of Malaysians from the pandemic. However, this newsletter is not so much about politics; for that you can follow me on my active social media posts. This newsletter is basically a report card of sorts of what my office and I have been doing in the last six months.

In partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Theology awarded by Wycliffe College and the University of Toronto. © Copyright by Wesley Miles Goudy 2018 Constantine in Scriptural Mode: John Foxe’s “Godly” Magisterial Revisions to Acts and Monuments Second Edition (1570) Wesley Miles Goudy Doctor of Theology Wycliffe College and the University of Toronto 2018 Abstract This project explores a new vision of the Protestant magistrate as represented in the alterations which John Foxe made to his Ecclesiastical History, in Acts and Monuments’ second edition (1570), a highly influential and controversial work which has been credited with shaping the course of English historiography from the Reformation to the Victorian era. The work has also been read in abridged form under the title Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. Foxe made incremental revisions to the work, which began as a 1554 Latin martyrology and ended in a fourth 1583 revision to this English-language ecclesiastical history, still known by the title Acts and Monuments. Yet relatively little scholarship has been devoted to explicating the nature and motivation for Foxe’s revisions, beyond his effort to provide literary and historical support for the English Reformation in the face of Roman Catholic opposition. The most significant revisions appear between the first and second editions of Acts and ii Monuments (1563, 1570), resulting in a textual expansion of some 500 pages.

Defendant] 1 CORUM: ABANG ISKANDAR BIN ABANG HASHIM, JCA ZALEHA BINTI YUSOF, JCA YAACOB BIN HAJI MD SAM, JCA JUDGMENT OF THE COURT Introduction [1] This appeal arises as a consequence of the decision of the High Court to grant an interim injunction against the Appellant, pending the disposal of an action in libel and/slander brought by the RespondenUPlaintiff against the Appellant/ Defendant. We will refer the parties as they appeared before the High Court Judge. Brief fact of the case [2] The pertinent background facts are as follows. Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak ("the Plaintiff'), is the Prime Minister of Malaysia, 2 Minister of Finance, Chairman of Barisan Nasional ("BN") and President of United Malays National Organisation ("UMNO"). [3] Tony Pua Kiam Wee ("the Defendant") is Nasional Publicity Secretary for the Democratic Action Party ("OAP") and also the Member of Parliament for constituency of Petaling Jaya utara, Selangor. [4] In the court below, the Plaintiff had instituted a civil action for defamation against the Defendant for his statement made on 6 April 2017 at the foyer of the Parliament Building, who had later caused it to be published in his Facebook Account.
