Callaway Staff Professional Henrik Stenson Wins the Open, Is Champion Golfer of the Year
Callaway Staff Professional Henrik Stenson Wins The Open, Is Champion Golfer Of The Year July 18, 2016 Stenson Uses a Full Bag of Callaway Clubs and an Odyssey Putter In a Performance of a Lifetime CARLSBAD, Calif., July 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY), an industry leader in innovative golf equipment and technology, announced today that Staff Professional Henrik Stenson used a full bag of Callaway clubs and an Odyssey putter en route to winning The Open in spectacular fashion yesterday at Royal Troon in Scotland. Stenson carded a 63 on Sunday, which included 10 birdies, to tie the lowest final round score in major championship history. And by carding a cumulative score of 264 over the week (with rounds of 68-65-68-63), Stenson set the record for lowest cumulative score ever in a major championship. Henrik Stenson's bag featured a 9-degree XR 16 Driver, Callaway's flagship driver that was used by Danny Willett in his major victory in Augusta this April, and also used by Lydia Ko (an XR 16 Pro Driver) in her major triumph at the ANA Inspiration earlier this year. For the XR 16 Driver, Callaway worked with a team of experts at Boeing to redefine what is possible with aerodynamics and ball speed. Callaway engineered its most forgiving shape ever and Boeing made it fast with a re-engineered Speed Step Crown. Additionally, at The Open, Stenson used his Odyssey #7 Putter to roll in the biggest putts of his career in the final round. This is already the 6th major championship victory this year for Odyssey, the most by any putter company this season. -
RORY Mcilroy ( -10)
ROUND 4 INTERVIEW May 9, 2021 RORY McILROY ( -10) LAURA VESCOVI: We'll go ahead and get started. First off, we'd love to congratulate you, Rory. You earned your 19th PGA TOUR title here at the Wells Fargo Championship. Obviously a very special win for you, this is the site of your first PGA TOUR win and it's your third win at Quail Hollow Club. Just thoughts on the win today. RORY McILROY: Yeah, this place has been good to me. Ever since I first set eyes on this golf course, I loved it from the first time I played it, and that love has sort of been reciprocated back. I've played so well here over the years. I think this is the first time I've ever won an event for the third time, so that's pretty cool to do it here. And yeah, just I did -- jeez, there's been so many things that -- I'll get into it a little bit later, but I didn't even think I was going to tee off in this tournament Wednesday night. Then even if I had had a morning tee time on Thursday, I probably would have pulled out because I hurt my neck on Wednesday afternoon and couldn't make a backswing. It just sort of, everything aligned. I was off on Thursday afternoon, I got enough treatment so that I could play and then progressively got a little bit better as the week went on. Yeah, it's just amazing how these little things, they all add up. -
The Open Is the Oldest of the Four Major Championships in Professional Golf and the Only One Contested Outside the United States
The Open is the oldest of the four major championships in professional golf and the only one contested outside the United States. Always played on a coastal ‘links’ course, there are now ten courses on the rota, five in Scotland. This unforgettable tour will take you to each of the five Open Venues in Scotland to experience for yourself the challenges faced by the world’s top golfers at the toughest major of them all. Along the way your guide will discuss other places of interest with you, exploring the glorious scenery and history of the surrounding area. There will be plenty of stops for refreshments, and ‘retail therapy – the choice is yours! Located 45 minutes’ East of Edinburgh, Muirfield is home of ‘The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers’, and a ‘men only’ club until March 2017. Having rejected the idea of women members in May 2016 and been briefly removed from the Open rota, the members re-considered their position and agreed to ‘welcome women to their waiting list’. Considered to be the fairest test of all the Open venues, there are fewer quirky bounces and hidden dangers than most links courses contain, though tall heather, blind shots and deep bunkers are still there to ‘punish’ bad shots. The challenge lies in the layout of the course. Most links courses run along the coast and then back again. Muirfield, is arranged as two loops of nine holes, one clockwise, one anticlockwise. This means every hole on the course has a different wind direction from the tee. No more than three consecutive holes follow the same direction at any stage. -

Tiger Woods Voted August Pga Tour Player of the Month Presented by Avis
TIGER WOODS VOTED AUGUST PGA TOUR PLAYER OF THE MONTH PRESENTED BY AVIS PARSIPPANY, N.J. and PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., September 10, 2013 — PGA TOUR and Avis Car Rental announced today that Tiger Woods has been voted the August PGA TOUR Player of the Month presented by Avis. As the official rental car company of the PGA TOUR, Avis will make a $50,000 contribution to the Tiger Woods Foundation. In a fan decision on PGATOUR.COM, Woods outpolled Jason Dufner, Patrick Reed and Adam Scott. The four were nominated by a panel of national media for their performances during the month of August. This month’s recognition marks the third time that Woods has received the honor. He was named Player of the Month presented by Avis in June of 2012 and March of 2013. “I want to thank all of the fans who voted for me as PGA TOUR Player of the Month and Avis for their kind contribution to my Foundation,” Woods said. “At the Foundation we believe every child deserves the opportunity to attend college and our college-access programs help them get there. This donation is essential in helping us reach our goals.” During the month of August, Woods won the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational for the eighth time in his career, posting a second-round 61 at Firestone Country Club en route to a seven-stroke victory over Henrik Stenson and Keegan Bradley. Woods’ 79 career PGA TOUR wins is three shy of Sam Snead’s all-time record of 82. With his fifth title of 2013, Woods now has 10 seasons with five or more TOUR victories. -

Dore and Totley Golf Club's Centenary Year
TOTLEY INDEPENDENT PUBLISHED CONTINUOUSLY SINCE 1977 www.totleyindependent.co.uk FEBRUARY/MARCH 2013 No. 360 20p. Chapel Fields One of Bob Warburton’s slides. Photo taken from Strawberry Lee Lane with The Cricket in the lower right and Baslow Road running left to right, with Chapel Fields in between. The fields are almost clear of bushes and the sledging run that we enjoyed as youngsters shows beautifully in this colour shot. The challenge was to clear the path and get as far as Needham’s Dyke at the bottom. Great memories. The Cricket was sporting it’s ‘Ward’s Brewery’ livery in those days – probably about 30 years ago. Totley Residents Association Update We had our first meeting of 2013 on Wednesday, January 9th, and were joined by Councillors Colin Ross and Keith Hill. We would like to thank them for their continuing support. Roger Hart also attended and spoke to us about Traffic and Parking Issues; he informed us of The Streets Ahead Roadshow which was held at Abbeydale Sports Club on 15th January. A TRA Committee Member also attended. Our next Farmers’ Market/Spring Fair will take place on Sunday, 17th March 2013 from 11am – 3pm at Totley Rise. We have a very broad Database of Stallholders; however, we are always looking for new ones. If you are interested in being involved, a Booking Form will be available to download from the Totley Independent website, or contact Hetty Moran on [email protected]. If anyone is able to help deliver flyers for this event around the Community please let us know. -
