BUCUR 1, 5 Emanoil SĂSĂRAN 1, 6 Ioan COCIUBA 7 Abstract: The study of the carbonate clasts and matrix of a problematic sedimentary formation (the Gugu Breccia) from the Pădurea Craiului Mountains reveals new information concerning its depositional environment and stratigraphic position. The identified microfacies and micropaleontological assem- blages demonstrate that all the sampled limestone clasts from the Gugu Breccia represent remnants of a fragmented Urgonian-type carbonate platform. The Barremian age of the clasts suggests that the stratigraphic position of the Gugu Breccia at its type locality could be uppermost Barremian-lowermost Aptian, a fact demonstrated also by the absence of elements from Lower Cretaceous carbonate plat- forms higher in the stratigraphic column (e.g., Aptian or Albian) of the Bihor Unit. The sedimentological observations together with the matrix mineralogy bring new arguments for the recognition of terrige- nous input during the formation of the Gugu Breccia. The range of these ammonites includes the lower part of the Upper Cenomanian up to thc Uppcr Turonian. They are placed in their paleogeographical context. Corresponding author: German Martínez Aparicio, [email protected] Abstract The base of the Guadalupe Group, in the Tunja area of Colombia, contains cherts, porcellanites, mudstones, and siltstones with subordinate quartz arenites. The lithostratigraphic description of two stratigraphic sections showed that the dominant facies have fine granular textures and siliceous compositions, which considerably differ from those of the prevailing sandy terrigenous facies described in the type locality in the Eastern Hills of Bogotá, in the Arenisca Dura Formation, the basal unit of the Guadalupe Group in this sector. The units that form the Guadalupe Group (base of the Guadalupe Group, Plaeners, and Arenisca Tierna) markedly differ from each other morphologically, which facilitates their mapping because the base and top units generate a steep morphology, and the intermediate units form surface depressions or valleys, similar to the morphology of the Guadalupe Group in its type locality in the Eastern Hills of Bogotá. The base of the Guadalupe Group consists of cherts and porcellanites toward the NW of the study area (Alto del Gavilán section), with mudstones, siltstones, quartz arenites, and to a lesser extent porcellanites and cherts prevailing toward the SE (Vereda Salitre section). -

GIRALDO *Colorado School of Mines, Geology Department, Golden CD 80403 Ecopetrol - Instituto Colombiano del Petróleo, A.A. 4185 Bucaramanga, Santander, Colombia e-mail: [email protected] he chemical composition of 25 crude oils from Tertiary reservoirs and 12 rock extracts from five T organic-rich Cretaceous formations in the Middle Magdalena Basin, Colombia were studied in detail by geochemical methods in order to understand their genetic relationships. The oils have been geochemically classified into four main groups based on the sulfur content, pristane/phytane, dibenzothiophene /phenanthrene, concentrations of oleanane and terpane distributions. Each group occur in different geographic locations. Oils were mainly derived from calcareous, siliciclastic and mixture of these two facies of the Upper Cretaceous La Luna Formation. Source-oil correlation is supported by sterane and terpane distributions of and carbon isotope ratios. Some oils in the eastern margin contain relatively higher concentrations of higher plant indicators than the remaining oil samples. The molecular compositions of the oils observed in this study appear to be consistent with the inferred depositional sequence of anoxic marine/pelagic carbonate facies in the north/western sector of the Middle Magdalena, while the eastern sector received a higher proportion of clastic input. This documentation supports the interpretation that the Middle Magdalena oils have been generated locally, as opposed to have migrated from the region of the Eastern Cordillera. Biomarker maturity parameters indicate that the majority of oils were generated in the early thermal maturity oil window except the Colorado-38 oil which was generated in the middle thermal maturity oil window. -

The small crustaceans were found in the uppermost parasequences with retrogradational stacking pattern, near to the maximum flooding surface (MFS), at the end of the late Campanian Transgressive Systems Tract (TST). This is the oldest record forOphthalmo - plax in America. Morphological affinities with other species of the genus are discussed, including size reduction related with anoxia events and paleotemperature. Paleotropical Pollen Grains from the Neuquén Group, Patagonia, Argentina
Carnets de Géologie [Notebooks on Geology] - Letter 2013/05 (CG2013_L05) Paleotropical pollen grains from the Neuquén Group, Patagonia, Argentina 1 Patricia VALLATI Abstract: This paper discusses the presence of elater-bearing pollen grains and other characteristic paleotropical palynomorphs in the mid to Late Cretaceous Neuquén Group at the El Zampal locality, south of Mendoza Province, Argentina. The elaterates characterize the equatorial paleofloristic province in the Albian-Cenomanian. The species Elateroplicites africaensis is present in the pollen assemblage recovered from the lower section of the Huincul Formation, a basal unit of the studied Neuquén Group. It represents the first record of elater- bearing pollen grains in Argentina and marks their southernmost extension. Other conspicuous paleo- tropical elements recorded in different lithostratigraphic units of the Neuquén Group include gymno- spermous polyplicate pollen grains and angiosperm pollen, including two species of the periporate pol- len genus Cretacaeiporites and the triporate pollen species Confossia vulgaris. The paleobiogeographic and biostratigraphic significance of the paleotropical sporomorph record in the Cretaceous palynofloras of the Neuquén Group at El Zampal is herein discussed.
