Our Spring Treasure Ball in 2011 was a great success and, thanks to the funds raised, we were able to achieve several milestones in our charity work. We built a 50'000 litre water tank, to provide water to the area of Mulshi, including the schools (Pomgaon, Shiravali and Maripur) On behalf of Treasure, I would like to thank you all for aending and also the surrounding villages. We have also built toilets and hygiene facilies in our 2nd our event and for generously contribung to our cause. school (Shiravali). While we sit in Geneva we tend to forget that many children go to bed hungry and without basics such as food, clothes, healthcare and educaon. It is through Treasure and their targeted projects that many children are given opportunies that would not be possible otherwise. We should not forget that these children live in families and villages where this assistance is much needed. These small but important projects aid the girls and boys to become educated, healthy, happier and producve adults. Even if it is in a small way, the work of Treasure is contribung to making a beer world.     Results and Discussion RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The interest that Indian women showed in ornamentation and aesthetic expression through their costumes has been documented well. It is pertinent to understand the messages that they conveyed through their sartorial preferences which is documented in various forms sculptures, scriptures, literature, paintings, costume archives, cinema, media –advertisements and magazines etcetera. Each community and ethnic group maintained unique characteristics, which become symbols of recognition and identification and served to establish their cultural affiliation. Central to this was the Indian woman who was the symbol of patriarchal society. She combined both the functions of being the nurturer and protector of her household and cultural ethos of the society. The woman was as important part as the man; of the Indian society, which embraced both the indoor and outdoor roles within the social- cultural paradigms of the community. The span of evolution of Indian women’s costume, especially the draped version, the sari has undergone immense changes, however to interpret the semiology of the era bygone is rather complex; as one can attempt to understand and decode the tacit meaning through the lens of current observation only. Since the people who shared the ancient set of rules or code for contextual reading that enables us to connect the signifier with the signified are not present, this will prove to be delimiting. The Indian fashion scene began receiving its due credibility and attention from 1980’s onwards and gained the industry recognition in 21st century: hence this research focuses on new millennium to understand the Indian Fashion System.

    THE BLURRING LINE WENDELL RODRICKS Abstract: Since antiquity, art has played a vital role in fashion. This process continues to the present day with designers sourcing inspiration from Egyptian Art, Greek Statues, Mesopotamian motifs and Indian sculpture. In the 20th century renowned designers have turned to artists to create fashion for the public. Chanel socialised with the Cubists and gave the world the first crystal cube as a perfume (Chanel no5) at a time when perfume containers were delicate Murano glass in feminine shapes. Elsa Schaprelli used her association with Dali to create Surrealistic details on her clothes. Most famously in the 1960′s, Yves Saint Laurent revived the art of 30′s minimalist Piet Mondrian. So close was he to art that he drew inspiration from Matisse and Van Gough. On the Indian scene, fashion designers have done the same. From temple art to frescoes, modern painters to Shantiniketan lines, Indian fashion flirts with and continues its fascination with Art. Wendell Rodricks explores the various art inspirations and speaks about his own passion for art and fashion. Since antiquity, the line between art and dress has been an osmotic exchange fuelled by a cross pollination of pioneers, personalities and philosophies. The art world maintains a hallowed space in the hierarchy of the art world. Fashion on the other hand has been relegated to the lowest rung, falling short of the performing arts and architecture. This has led to many projects that have tried to figure out N how fast fashion can be slowed down. In turn, it is now being debated how the fashion industry, which is the most polluting, can make use of itsT discarded garments and turn them into new creations. What happens to all the old clothes that are discarded by the fashion- conscious? Are those just waste, or can they be used with inventive ideas? What happens to all the leftover fabrics in factories after the garments are made? A beginning to this end was made at the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 season through the concept of using old clothes to create new ones with the top designers like Rajesh Pratap Singh and Abraham and Thakore leading the way.
