5 GROVE CITY COLLEGE SEASON PREVIEW A remade roster that features several grizzled veter- ans and a plethora of gifted newcomers will look to lift the Grove City College men's basketball team back to the top of the Presidents' Athletic Conference in the 2014-15 sea- son. Head coach Steve Lamie will work with a trio of seniors this year in guard Mitch Marmelstein, guard J.T. Schwartz and forward Brian Giesler. Marmelstein led Grove City in scoring, rebounds, as- sists and minutes played last year and will likely go over the 1,000-point mark for his career early this season. The 6-foot Marmelstein is a two-time All-PAC selection. Schwartz has started regularly for Grove City through- out his career. The 5-foot-8 Schwartz set a Grove City record with 57 steals last year and brings scoring punch to the point guard position. Schwartz averaged 8.2 points per game last year and also ranked second to Marmelstein in rebounding. Giesler converted a school-record 76 three-point goals last year while averaging 11.3 points per game. He will again be counted on as a perimeter threat from either of the forward positions. Giesler started all 26 games last year. Grove City also welcomes back four juniors who have all started during their respective careers at the College. Stephen Tam will battle Schwartz for the starting point REVIEW guard spot while fellow guard Isaiah Reeves will again look P to be the Wolverines' defensive stopper. EASON

S Junior guard Stephen Tam will challenge for the start- ing point guard position this season. Tam is a two-year letterman and a part-time starter for Grove City. Tam moved into the starting lineup late last year while Reeves has been a part-time starter in each of his first two seasons at Grove City. Erik Carlstrom, a 6-foot-6 center, returns after making 14 starts last year. He brings size and experience to a youth- ful frontcourt. Junior guard Joe Vermilya will also challenge for a start- ing spot this year after earning his first letter last year. Sophomore forward Luke Tincha emerged during his rookie season and started the final four games of last sea- son. He will look to earn a full-time starting assignment in the frontcourt. Meanwhile, classmate Mitch Newburg seeks a regular spot in the rotation after playing in 14 games last year. Two veteran transfers are also expected to immedi- ately contribute. Junior Caleb Knudsen, a 6-4 swingman, will challenge for a starting spot this year as will 6-6 sopho- more forward Tyler McGrath. PROGRAM HISTORY

Since its inception in the 1898-99 season, the Grove City College men’s basketball team has compiled over 1,100 wins and numerous championships while producing an in- numerable number of outstanding players. Grove City began play late in the 1898-99 season with a 32-9 loss at Allegheny in Meadville, Pa. After winning just three of its first 13 games in the first three seasons, Grove City found success in early years of the 20th Century. Edward Campbell took over as player-head coach in 1901 and directed the Wolverines to Tri-State champion- ships in 1903 and 1905. In his four seasons as head coach, Campbell compiled a 50-13 mark. Frank Hays, William Brown and Fred Locke all spent time at the helm in the latter half of the decade before Weir C. Ketler took control in 1910. Al Pesek then coached for one season before Jim Curry led Grove City to a 13-5 record in 1955-56.
