We are a strong Branch with over 500 members, if one of those members is you, please come along to our Annual General Meeting to be held on Saturday 19th January 2019 at The Bradstow Mill, 11.45 for a 12:00 prompt start. This is your opportunity to becoming involved in your Branch, to help us move forward, to celebrate and enjoy the excellent Re- al Ale and Real Cider that some of our local amazing establishments. Aside from the Branch Committee, we are also specifically looking for someone who could put together the Beer Festival Programme, including seeking advertisers and arranging the printing – could this be you? One the difficult tasks I have had this year is working with the Beer Festival Committee to ensure that we have a Festival in 2019. We had been in a really lucky position that for a considerable time we have had a very, very good rate when we hired the Winter Gardens, and due to the situa- tion, they are in, they had to review our hire, and after much number crunching and negotiation we have managed to secure the venue. -

Observing Cow Signals
5 Observing cow signals This chapter discusses the signals that cattle continually give out regarding their health and wellbeing, through their behaviour, posture and physical traits. The main points of this chapter • There are three questions to ask when using cow signals to aid farm management decisions, namely, What do I see?; How did this come about? and What does it mean? • Don’t just look, observe and focus these observations by asking: Is everything as it should be or is there a potential risk in this situation? Develop an observation routine and use records to aid and interpret any observation and follow-up actions. • The three main reasons behind any behaviour are – that it satisfies a need; it is a reaction to a stimulus; or it may be due to a physical urge. • To a large extent farming is about risk management and we can identify two types of risk, known and unknown. Known risks can be controlled by good management but minimising unknown risks requires alertness and good observations. To minimise any damage, farmers need to be able to respond quickly. • This chapter assesses cow observations in different farm locations: while grazing; in the shed; at the feed barrier and in the milking parlour. • Astute farmers know the signs of a healthy cow in that she is alert and active, has a glossy and smooth coat, has a good appetite and drinks well and walks and stands without discomfort. 06_Chapter_05.indd 69 01-12-2014 08:24:52 70 Cow Talk • The early signs of sickness are often subtle, requiring skill and experience to recognise them – such cows may simply ‘look different’. -

To What Extent Did Roger Waters' 1967-1969
University of Surrey Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Department of Music and Media BMus Music (3 year) Final-Year Individual Project MUS3078 ‘To What Extent Did Roger Waters’ 1967-1969 Songwriting Style Shape 1983’s The Final Cut?’ Daniel Peeke Supervised By Dr. Christopher Wiley May 2019 2 Acknowledgements Since hearing The Wall at a friend’s house when I was twelve, Pink Floyd led me towards all the music I’m passionate about today, whether it’s Ben Folds, Cannibal Corpse or Dr Dre. Since Roger Waters composed much of their best work, I felt it appropriate to explore the way in which his style grew their sound from innocent, underground psychedelia into genius conceptual art. I’d like to thank Dr Chris Wiley in particular for his countless pointers in the right direction and for giving up so much of his time to help refine all 12,000 of these words. Also, my parents for reading this repeatedly despite not understanding what a single word of it means, Joe and Stelios for letting me obsessively play prog 24 hours a day at home, and Shan for pretending to care about metric irregularity, modal interchange and melodic contour.
