  • Tanya Sources.Pdf
The Way to the Tree of Life Jewish practice entails fulfilling many laws. Our diet is limited, our days to work are defined, and every aspect of life has governing directives. Is observance of all the laws easy? Is a perfectly righteous life close to our heart and near to our limbs? A righteous life seems to be an impossible goal! However, in the Torah, our great teacher Moshe, Moses, declared that perfect fulfillment of all religious law is very near and easy for each of us. Every word of the Torah rings true in every generation. Lesson one explores how the Tanya resolved these questions. It will shine a light on the infinite strength that is latent in each Jewish soul. When that unending holy desire emerges, observance becomes easy. Lesson One: The Infinite Strength of the Jewish Soul The title page of the Tanya states: A Collection of Teachings The Book of the Beinonim Compiled from sacred books and Heavenly מלוקט מפי ספרים ומפי סופרים קדושי עליון נ״ע teachers, whose souls are in paradise; based מיוסד על פסוק כי קרוב אליך הדבר מאד בפיך ובלבבך לעשותו upon the verse, “For this matter is very near to לבאר היטב איך הוא קרוב מאד בדרך ארוכה וקצרה ”;you, it is in your mouth and heart to fulfill it בעזה״י and explaining clearly how, in both a long and short way, it is exceedingly near, with the aid of the Holy One, blessed be He. "1 of "393 The Way to the Tree of Life From the outset of his work therefore Rav Shneur Zalman made plain that the Tanya is a guide for those he called “beinonim.” Beinonim, derived from the Hebrew bein, which means “between,” are individuals who are in the middle, neither paragons of virtue, tzadikim, nor sinners, rishoim.

  • Interpreting Diagrams from the Sefer Yetsirah and Its Commentaries 1
NOTES 1 Word and Image in Medieval Kabbalah: Interpreting Diagrams from the Sefer Yetsirah and Its Commentaries 1. The most notorious example of these practices is the popularizing work of Aryeh Kaplan. His critical editions of the SY and the Sefer ha Bahir are some of the most widely read in the field because they provide the texts in Hebrew and English with comprehensive and useful appendices. However, these works are deeply problematic because they dehistoricize the tradi- tion by adding later diagrams to earlier works. For example, in his edition of the SY he appends eighteenth-century diagrams to later versions of this tenth-century text. Popularizers of kabbalah such as Michael Berg of the Kabbalah Centre treat the Zohar as a second-century rabbinic tract without acknowledging textual evidence to the contrary. See his introduction to the Centre’s translation of the Zohar: P. S. Berg. The Essential Zohar. New York: Random House, 2002. 2. For a variety of reasons, kabbalistic works were transmitted in manuscript form long after other works, such as the Hebrew Bible, the Talmud, and their commentaries were widely available in print. This is true in large part because kabbalistic treatises were “private” works, transmitted from teacher to student. Kabbalistic manuscripts were also traditionally transmitted in manuscript form because of their provenance. The Maghreb and other parts of North Africa were important centers of later mystical activity, and print technology came quite late to these regions, with manuscript culture persisting well into the nineteenth, and even into the mid- twentieth century in some regions.

  • A Whiteheadian Interpretation of the Zoharic Creation Story
A WHITEHEADIAN INTERPRETATION OF THE ZOHARIC CREATION STORY by Michael Gold A Dissertation Submitted to the Faculty of The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton, Florida May 2016 Copyright 2016 by Michael Gold ii ACKNOWLEDGMENTS The author wishes to express sincere gratitude to his committee members, Professors Marina Banchetti, Frederick E. Greenspahn, Kristen Lindbeck, and Eitan Fishbane for their encouragement and support throughout this project. iv ABSTRACT Author: Michael Gold Title: A Whiteheadian Interpretation of the Zoharic Creation Story Institution: Florida Atlantic University Dissertation Advisor: Dr. Marina P. Banchetti Degree: Doctor of Philosophy Year: 2016 This dissertation presents a Whiteheadian interpretation of the notions of mind, immanence and process as they are addressed in the Zohar. According to many scholars, this kabbalistic creation story as portrayed in the Zohar is a reaction to the earlier rabbinic concept of God qua creator, which emphasized divine transcendence over divine immanence. The medieval Jewish philosophers, particularly Maimonides influenced by Aristotle, placed particular emphasis on divine transcendence, seeing a radical separation between Creator and creation. With this in mind, these scholars claim that one of the goals of the Zohar’s creation story was to emphasize God’s immanence within creation. Similar to the Zohar, the process metaphysics of Alfred North Whitehead and his followers was reacting to the substance metaphysics that had dominated Western philosophy as far back as ancient Greek thought. Whitehead adopts a very similar narrative to that of the Zohar.

They appeared because Aelohim had hidden itself by creating darkness within chaos; they disappeared when there was brought forth in the east that luminous head, that glowing head that humanity gives itself by proclaiming the existence of Aelohim, the sun [Solar Absolute, the Ain Soph Aur], governor of our aspirations and our thoughts. Without guidance, this is usually impossible. Therefore, lowe my biggest thanks to Peter and Laura Yorke of Ra Horakhty Temple, who provided my first exposure to self-initiation techniques in the Golden Dawn. Their years of expe rience with the Golden Dawn material yielded a structure of carefully selected ex ercises, which their students still use today to bring about a gradual transformation. WIthout such well-prescribed use of the Golden Dawn's techniques, it would have been difficult to make progress in its grade system. The basic structure of the course in this book is built on a foundation of the Golden Dawn's elemental grade system as my teachers passed it on. In particular, it develops further their choice to use the color correspondences of the Four Worlds, a piece of the original Golden Dawn system that very few occultists have recognized as an ini tiatory tool.

  • PASSAGE PROCESSES by Martin Skála Prague, Czech Republic
PASSAGE PROCESSES by Martin Skála Prague, Czech Republic Individual Member IAAP Developing Group ČSAP Martin Skála | IM IAAP, DG ČSAP | 1 Psychopompos.cz | Prague, Czech Republic This contribution deals with archetypal process of passage or deep psychic crises. A link among several disorders occurring on the threshold of adulthood, rites of initiation and the individuation process will be suggested. I will offer a term “initiation process” which takes place on the threshold of adulthood. The initiation process is similar but different from the individuation process elaborated by Jung. A case vignette will clarify particularity of the initiation process. Then the individuation and the initiation process will be compared to Basal Perinatal Matrices elaborated on by Grof. I will suggest a term “passage processes” as a superordinate concept for all similar archetypal processes when one´s life is completely changed in all possible meanings. In the end I will summarize my understanding of human development in four Worlds (Womb, Family, Adulthood and Transpersonal Dimension in an old age) which are connected by five passage processes (Conception, Birth, Initiation, Individuation and Death). Martin Skála | IM IAAP, DG ČSAP | 2 Psychopompos.cz | Prague, Czech Republic Introduction Jung extended developmental psychology to the second part of human’s life by elaborating his theory of the individuation process (Edinger, 1968). He built this theory on the base of his own experience which he called Nekyia – "the night journey on the sea ... descent into the belly of the monster (a journey to hell)", or Katabasis - descent into the lower world (Jung, CW 05). In 1913, when he was 38 he had many anxious dreams and visions which are elaborated on in his Red Book.

  • An Exploration of the Sephiroth in Masonic Symbolism Fr
An Exploration of the Sephiroth in Masonic Symbolism Fr. Ernest R. Spradling, Vll 0 A very senior Freemason once lamented about the younger generation of Brothers, who were exploring the mystical in Freemasonry, it being only a social club. I really don't agree with that sentiment, and given what I have experienced over the years, I know fully that our gentle Craft is imbued with mystical spirituality that has accumulated since the first Lodge was founded. After all, everything in this Fraternity is, in a larger sense, a microcosm of the life led on this plane: if spirituality is found in all THE LORD's Creation, why would there not be some form of the spiritual in the workings of the Fraternity? I have experienced occasional "glimmers" of the Light, through various gradations in the Craft, when the conditions were right; this set me on this study of various mystical "trailblazers" that have been evident, and not-so-evident, in the Craft's symbolism. Being ever mindful of the admonition in the 32"d Degree of the Scottish Rite (Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A.): "To know how to classify shells, flowers, and insects is not wisdom any more than it is wisdom to know the titles of books" I must state for the record that, as Heinlein's protagonist put it in the novel, "Stranger in a Strange Land", "I am onJy an egg", I do not profess to have the knowledge of the Adepts, despite the occasional "glimmers" I've experienced over the years. A lot of this probably is old ground for some readers.
