We travel to Luton Town on Tuesday 13 August 2019 in the first round of the Carabao Cup. The following guide has been produced for Town fans making the trip to Kenilworth Road.

This is based on Luton Town’s guide for away fans plus additional information specific to this game.

For any further information, please contact Elizabeth Edwards, Supporter Liaison Officer on [email protected] or (+44) (0) 7968 876504 or on Twitter at @ITFC_SLO.

Luton Town information for visiting fans

The address for Luton Town is Kenilworth Road , 1 Maple Road, Luton LU4 8AW, but please note the Away Supporters end is in Oak Road.

Luton’s generic away guide can be found on their website – beware that it includes some information that is not applicable to this match (e.g. we understand that the shuttle buses won’t be running). We have picked out the key information for Town fans below, and also added some material that is specific to us.

The link to their generic away guide is here: https://www.lutontown.co.uk/supporters/visiting-supporters/

There are links to three sections, covering travel information, facilities in the away end and details of local attractions if you are heading to Luton early or staying in the area overnight. There is also an away fans booklet which can be downloaded – this contains a bit more information. www.footballgroundguide.com provides some further information via the following link: https://www.footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/championship/kenilworth-road-luton- town.html

We have picked out the key information for Town fans below, and added other material based on our experience of going to Kenilworth Road and information that is specific to our fans.

Travelling to Luton Town

Supporters Coach

For those travelling from Ipswich the official coaches are leaving at 15:40 (please be at Portman Road at least 15 minutes before this) at a cost of £15 for adults (with concession prices for U23s, U19s and 65+ Seniors). Coaches are estimated to arrive back at Portman Road at 00:20 on Wednesday 14 August.

Coach travel is now on sale and can be booked on www.itfcdirect.com or in Planet Blue on a non- matchday or at the Ticket Office on Constantine Road on a Saturday matchday from 9am.

The coaches are travelling via the A14 so pick-ups at , and Newmarket can be arranged for this game. If you want to organise a pick-up please call the Ticket Enquiries Team on 03330 050503 or email [email protected]. The cut-off point to request a pickup is midday on Friday 9 August. Your details will then be passed onto the coach company, Norse.

Note that all official coaches are non-smoking and the consumption of alcohol on board is strictly forbidden. ITFC recommend that all supporters under 16 are accompanied by an adult.

Car

The Sat Nav postcode for Kenilworth Road is LU4 8AW. However, you may want to use the Sat Nav postcode for your chosen car park. There are two main routes from Ipswich to Luton. With a clear run, the quickest is usually A12 / M25 / M1, taking around two hours. Given that you’ll be driving through the evening rush hour, you’ll know to allow some extra time.

The other route is marginally shorter in distance, and usually marginally longer in time, taking the A14 to Newmarket, then the A11, then the A505 to Luton (through Royston, and then a short stretch on the A1 before rejoining the A505 into Luton).

We would recommend that you allow at least another hour beyond the AA / Google / SatNav suggested journey time, to allow for possible delays.

Parking

Street parking near the ground is very limited. Note there is a residents only parking scheme in operation near the ground. Oak Road, which is where you will find the away turnstiles is closed on a matchday with the exception of parking for official coaches.

The Luton Town away supporters guide recommends parking at the railway station (Sat Nav postcode LU1 2LT).

Other car parking options within 10 – 20 minutes’ walk of the ground can be found in the following link: https://www.lutontown.co.uk/supporters/getting-to-kenilworth-road/ This link mentions parking at Power Court (Sat Nav postcode LU1 3JJ), which is free for a Tuesday matchday. This car park is further from the ground than the station car park, and the Luton website suggests it is only for home fans (via a permit system).

The Beech Hill Conservative Club (see Pubs below) has a car park and charges £5 per car (payable inside the Club, as per www.footballgroundguide.com).

Disabled Supporters Parking

There are a limited number of away disabled car parking spaces available at the Kenilworth Road end of the stadium. For more information contact the Luton Town Disability Officer on 01582 416976.

In addition, there are a few parking spaces at Beech Hill School. These are allocated on a first come, first served basis by calling 01582 411622.

Train

The journey from Ipswich takes around 2 hours 20 minutes with the cheapest option being to travel via Farringdon on the Thameslink rather than St Pancras on East Midland Trains.

On the return journey, www.greateranglia.co.uk indicates a 22:13 train out of Luton which, with a change at Farringdon connects for the last train to Ipswich (the 23:30 from Liverpool Street). Note this allows 36 minutes between arriving at Farringdon and the train leaving Liverpool Street. Also, with a 15 - 20 minute walk back to the station, you won’t be able to hang around at the end of the game. Bear in mind as well that this game could go to extra time and penalties.

For those travelling back to the area there are regular trains back to London until midnight with less frequent trains running from then throughout the night.

Bus from the station to the ground

The Luton away fans guide indicates that for some games the police provide buses from the station to the ground and then back after the game. However, these did not run last time we played Luton in the Carabao Cup. We are waiting to hear if they will be running this time.

It is still possible to get from the station to the ground by bus via the Luton – Busway. It’s a short journey – get out at the first stop, just three minutes into the journey, at Clifton Road, which is towards the Oak Road side of the ground. There are Busways after the game but note that to catch the 22:04 train you would need to get the 21:46 bus. Most fans are likely to walk it.

Pubs

The Beech Hill Conservative Club is the designated away fans pub. The address is 18A Road, Luton, LU4 8HZ. This is the closest away friendly venue to the ground, being less than 5 minutes’ walk. There is a charge for non-members of £1, but www.footballgroundguide.com states that the beer is at very reasonable prices once you are in. The Club is also open after the game and offers car parking (see above).

Town centre drinking works a bit like in Ipswich – a number of pubs may be reserved for home fans only. This varies match-by-match. The best real ale options are the Bricklayers Arms on High Town Road and a Wetherspoons, the White House, on Street. Need cash?

The nearest cash machine is located at Barclays Bank on the corner of Road and Crawley Road, a short walk from the ground.

At the ground

Matchday Store

There is a small matchday store on the corner of Oak Road, inside the Luton Town Community Trust building.

Tickets on the day

Last time we played Luton in the Carabao Cup no tickets were available for travelling fans on the night – we do not yet know if this will be the case for this game.

This information be published on the club website (www.itfc.co.uk), twitter (@Official_ITFC and @ITFC_Tickets) and facebook (www.facebook.com/officialitfc) as soon as the information is available.

Away end

The Kenilworth Stadium, Kenilworth Road, home to Luton Town since 1905, is unusual in that it has five distinct stands. The away end is the Oak Road End behind the goal – when you get to the turnstiles it feels as if you are going through the back garden of someone’s house into the stand. We are not expecting to fill the away end, so there should be room to move around, stretch your legs (and voices) in the back rows, or find a seat with adequate leg room.

Security

As at all grounds, expect to be searched before entering the ground.

Banners and flags, and musical instruments

Flags and banners are permitted inside the stadium but please contact the club in advance for prior permission, as they will need to see the relevant safety certificates.

Programmes

Programmes will be on sale in the Club Shop and outside the ground. There are usually programme sellers who walk around the pitch perimeter but we have been advised that it is best to purchase outside if you want to make sure you get a programme.

Food and Drink facilities

Once you are in the stadium, you'll find refreshment kiosks are located inside the ground offering a range of hot snacks and drinks. There is a small bar in the away end – to the left-hand side as you look at the pitch. This will be selling alcohol on the night as well as soft drinks. The normal range of football ground food will be available. Note that there is a capacity of 60 within this bar.

Smoking

Smoking is not allowed in the stadium. This includes e-cigarettes.
