The winner on Saturday will become the fifth first- time winner on the ATP World Tour this season, joining Nick Kyrgios (Marseille), Diego Schwartzman (Istanbul), Steve Johnson (Nottingham) and Albert Ramos-Vinolas (Bastad). In the first match, Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia takes on No. 6 seed Dusan Lajovic of Serbia in a first-time meeting. Basilashvili is attempting to become the first player from Georgia to reach an ATP World Tour singles final. He is appearing in his first ATP World Tour semi-final. Lajovic is appearing in his second semi-final on the ATP World Tour after Sao Paulo in February. In the other match, local favorite Gerald Melzer takes on No. 4 seed Paolo Lorenzi of Italy for the second time on the ATP World Tour. Lorenzi won the previous meeting 62 62 in the 1R of the U.S. Clay Courts in Houston in April 2013. They also met three other times in ATP Challenger Tour clay court tournaments and Melzer won twice. Melzer is appearing in his second career ATP World Tour semi-final (2015 Munich) and Lorenzi in his third. His lone final came in Sao Paulo in 2014 (l. to Delbonis).
