There are some ’contamination’ issues with the way we recycle our rubbish – we should ‘squash and wash’. (See pages 4-5). She has also promised to supply food waste bags and caddies, they are £2.50 per pack, and she will deliver direct. Recreation Ground and Conservation Area- all the repairs requested in the RoSPA report for the Play Area are to be carried out at a cost of £2000. Various trees are in need of trimming and the felled tree needs to be trimmed and cleared away from the football ground. All the trees in the Village are to be noted, surveyed and accessed. Litter Pick – this has proved to be a great success and the Village looks great. Footpaths – it was noted that the footpath between Hay Street and Brook End had a fallen tree where it meets Brook End. Scrap Yard, Odsey – County Councillor Mr S Kindersley – have spoken to the owners of the scrap yard, who have made some amendments to their working practices but further planning permissions are needed. OBJECTION 3 South Cambs recycles plastic! Most people in South Cambridgeshire recycle plastic packaging. In South Cambridgeshire our plastic is mostly sent to UK reprocesses to be made into new products. Below illustrates some common types of plastics and where you should put them to ensure they are dealt with properly after you have finished with them. Recycle the following items in your blue bin: Plastic Bottles: Empty, rinse and squash, put trigger spray or lids back on BUT remove hand soap pumps which need to be put in the BLACK BIN Meat Trays, Tubs, Pots and Punnets: Take out any absorbent inserts and put in BLACK BIN. Wash out all foodstuffs, put the lids back on. Black plastic meat trays or other black plastic liners need to go in the BLACK BIN. Carrier Bags, multipack film, bubble wrap and foodbags: Make sure they are empty, and clean, any waste food should go into the food caddy or green bin. Note: crisp packets and food and pet food pouches go in the BLACK BIN. Note: Heather Williams can supply you with the correct food bags for the green bin. 4 These plastic items are not currently recyclable and need to be placed in the BLACK BIN, putting these items in the BLUE BIN increases the cost of sorting your recycling. Black plastic bin bags and black plastic trays: Use black bin bags only for black bin rubbish, but empty bag of contents into the bin. Black plastic trays cannot be identified by the scanners used for sorting so need to go into the black bin. Polystyrene trays and take away containers: Currently not recycled. Drink, Food and Pet Food Pouches: These are made of layers of plastic and aluminium. Crisp Packets: Also made from layers of plastic and aluminium. All these items go in the black bin. Biodegradable or compostable ‘plastic’ plates, cups and cutlery: These new types of plastic items break down over a longer timeframe than our composting system allows, and can’t be recycled with regular plastics. These items also go in the black bin. Larger items of plastic such as chairs, bowls, toys and electrical items need to be taken to the recycling centre. 5 6 Steeple Morden Parish Litter Picks Schedule 2018 All events start at 2pm and last just 60 “magic” minutes Zones 6 and 7 Hay Street from Craft Way to Trap Saturday 27th October 2018 Road/North Brook End/Trap Road/Bogs Gap Lane and Brook End - meeting at the Rec. th Zones 2-6 Whole village sweep Saturday 10 November 2018 Zone 1: Odsey Saturday 24th November 2018 We had a rather wet but nonetheless successful pick on 22 September and then a record breaking 21 people turned out for our pick last Saturday in the sunshine!
